Railway Videos from around the Greater London area. Not getting about much due to illness etc but will try to get out more. Currently using a Panasonic HC-VX1 Camcorder with a Rode Stereo Video Mic Pro. Always in Manual exposure, I've gone right off of using auto features. For the last year I have been filming and encoding in 2160p @ 30p rather than the UK Pal 25p as it is smoother in playback, and matches most PCs, Tablets, Phones etc.
When Geoff Marshall Jumped off the GWR one and said there was something like 100 people at West Ealing, I was half expecting the unit to come around the bend somewhat like one from the Great St Trinian's Train Robbery, arms and legs out of the window. 🙂
This (Castlebar) is where l grew up in the '50s The change is unbelievable. lnterestingly, in those days all the rail embankments were bare as they were always catching fire because of sparks from the steam trains
It isn't. From left to right on the South Eastern it up, then a down road, then another up then down. Unlike the South Western that has two up then two down.
Certainly a busy day on the Chessington branch. DB Cargo operated Cliffe to Tolworth in the morning, then DC Rail service to Cappagh's new depot at Chessington South, and finally the Freightliner service of Mendip stone from Acton to Tolworth. Never thought I'd see the day that the old Charrington's site at Chessington South was brought back into life. I remember it when it was receiving coal in vacuum braked hoppers.
I was following it on Live Train Times. The Freightliner Mendip stone train spent three hours at Wimbledon. Wimbledon 14.13, but didn't pass Raynes Park until 17.20.
My nan used to live just up the road from here, whenever we went to visit, my brothers and I would always go and watch the trains. this would be late 60' and early 70's as well.
Another excellent video. I liked the long shots from South Greenford and Hanwell. Used the Greenford branch a few times, my (now sadly departed) ex lived in West Ealing and then Northolt, near the three peaks in the park. Miserable little packed 2-car 165 from Paddington. Never got off any of the intermediate stations, some good vantage points. South Greenford was interesting. You can hear the A40 traffic in the background, and in the distance the Central Line trains to and from West Ruislip. Like the way the track rises and falls either side of the A40 bridge. It's a shame Calvert rail head has closed. I'm assuming it reached capacity, or is it due to East-West line to Bletchley requiring the route? Even so, just like a quarry gets exhausted, a landfill site does eventually reach capacity. I was surprised when I worked on a new build/upgrade road job between Bedford and the M1 near MK, part of it was alongside the old Stewartby site. I was surprised at what had once been an old brickworks and a large hole in the ground, and once a rail fed site, had become a landfill hill of some size. Nice to see the 56, only ever saw it once myself on the Lynch spoil train passing through West Ruislip.
Good video, interesting movement. Don't see many trains propelled off of the running lines today. Just seen your comment on Facebook and the link to this video. I worked on a construction project at RAF Northolt about ten years ago. I remember watching the binliners heading through Ruislip Gardens, both from Northolt and Cricklewood en route to Calvert. Also remember the stink left behind once at Northolt Central Line station when a Cricklewood-Calvert passed through once. The smell did hang around on that warm spring day. Interesting to see how the operation is now done with the closure of Calvert. Again about 10 years ago we staid at a hotel in Bristol, it overlooked the line into Temple Meads, but also I could see in another direction lots of unused or stored binliners once used for Bristol waste. I'm not sure if that service has resumed? Where I live now, the non recyclable waste goes by train to an EFW site around Teesside.
Worth pointing out that the Departures also have to reverse into the station until the whole train is beyond the Junction, and then sets off up wrong line out of the down platform. See here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a4P-u0kZ0A4.html
@@southofthethames Thanks. I watched this video this morning (Monday). I'm surprised at the length of these trains. I didn't think the Northolt facility sidings were that long. I see that the line into Calvert has now been lifted.
Am I the only one coming here expecting video of the Kensal Rise tornado weather event? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_London_tornado Enjoyed it anyway. Thank you.
I use this one www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/detailed/ Just tap in the location and times and where it says "All Services you can change that to "Non-Passenger Services.
