I'm a retro gamer and Amstrad fanatic! I love creating longplay & review videos especially for the Amstrad CPC, but I cover other retro systems too with features, documentaries, longplays, reviews and more! Every Friday at 9pm is my weekly live stream called the "AMSTREAM" - which is the home for the Amstrad fans but all gamers are welcome to our vibrant, friendly and welcoming community! You can also find me streaming on Twitch Monday to Thursday evenings!
Oh, the memories came flooding back about Cassette 50! I remember selling my Marklin model train set to raise money for games. I went to the only local computershop and perused the selection of Amstrad games on the shelf. Found Cassette 50 and thought 'Bargain!' Even though it was full price, 50 games was more than I had combined at home! Well, back home, after loading game after game, realising that the good games never came, I was dishartened. Hard earned cash for nothing. Trying to justify it by playing the 1 or 2 games that was not terrible, but this was a hard lesson in marketing for 12 year old me.
Feel really sad I can't come on streams anymore but when you get harassed constantly for a document you can't provide and told to kill yourself (was on a bug stream( sad I gomna have to miss everything in the future but what am I supposed to do? Hopefully those people can reach out to me to fix this
Pete it was you yourself (as per your message to me) that decided to leave the community and I strongly suggest that you continue to take this time away to have a good long think about your recent actions and let things cool down. There are a LOT of people very angry at you, and at the least fed up. It is not a good idea at present approaching anyone. And at present a few affected by you are taking a few weeks out away anyway. Also no-one on the Bugstream told you to 'kill yourself' I already watched through the whole stream, and stop commenting on people's videos/streams/etc publicly - this is now annoying Novabug, me, etc - you've now made me late for my own stream. Please do not think about coming coming on the Amstream at present as explained above, as I've told you weeks ago I have DM'd you on Facebook. I will delete these posts here in a few days because I don't want them on my public videos.
Great list. the CPC (6128 in my case) was my first computer where I learnt to code, and took me onto a path of university and then onto a career as a games programmer. Thank you Sir Alan!
Thank you! That's an honour coming from the YolkFolk site team! One of the first websites I looked at when starting research for this game - which of course was already linked to in the description of this video :)
For anyone interested. The background music from the first part was a rendition of John Williams' "Slave Children's Crusade" from the OST. I have this music stuck in my head now.
Ahhh damnit, I thought I caught all typos - already had to re-render once (and that takes several hours!) correcting a few. Those bloomin' quote boxes were the most awkward to do in the video editing software, a slight change and it all went wonky. Never mind.
I am subscribed to your channel, use the ROM on the Caprice 32 emulator. The first screen has option 1 1 > Normal Game 2 > The Bidouille . I type 1 and nothing happens. I type 2 and nothing happens. I type all the keys on the keyboard, space, enter, and nothing happens! How do I START this game?

But the sweetest part of the video was your little son playing, that was so cute.. the way he rocked to the rhythm 🥹🥰🤗🤗🤗. Another thing - yeah, the game ending was underwhelming, but the best part showed how kids don’t bother with that, they enjoy the ride - and he happily switched it on again and continued playing for a bit more. Bless!!😇😇😇
Aww what a lovely comment! That made my day, cheers Mirko! Hope you're having a lovely time wherever you are man!! <3 I'm a proud dad for sure, been really enjoying these father-son bonding moments over retro gaming, not just Amstrad games (and Dizzy ones)! .... but especially Amstrad gaming!!
Gosh Mr Xy, the videos you put out are tv quality, great job!! Well thought out, put together brilliantly… and the addition of clever questions with interesting answers from the authors.. Well done Al! I imagine great deal of work went into that, thank you ❤
Wow cheers mate! Much appreciated - yea this took a long time to pull together and get done, but was worth it by the looks of it from the response :) Thanks again man! <3
It is! The missus was able to pick one up for me at a reasonable price a long while ago for a Xmas pressie! It's the last thing I've "collected" and I'll leave it at that probably.
Really great video, the Dizzy games were my favourite as a kid and I still enjoy playing them now. I don't play them often but every few years I'll pick up the original Dizzy and play it through. Crystal Kingdom was a pretty solid Dizzy game. I must admit I wasn't a huge fan of the C64 version with the blue sky (it felt overall different) but I enjoyed the Spectrum version.
Thank you! I guess even with the blue sky, and all the other little changes (no Dizzy roll! And I neglected to mention you could change direction mid air after jumping!! etc etc) they were trying to progress / modernise Dizzy a little and start to bring him in-line with the 16-bit era, and as Jarrod said - what the Amiga version was doing. But if you were used to 7 previous Speccy/CPC Dizzy games in black then it's going to be a little odd! Anyway, as you can see Dizzy still lives on with the new generation even if it may just be my kid that's playing them!! I wonder how many other's out there are? 😄
@@Xyphoe there are over 300 fan made dizzy games too, some are silly fun games but some really do feel like a 'proper' Dizzy game. I did a video literally just yesterday where I mention that, but it's more of a brief over than anything in depth.
What a fantastic video. I used to enjoy playing al the main line dizzy games on my 464 and later the amiga, and even fast fod dizzy. As some of the last entries were released though, I started to get dizzy fatigue and I think the series started to lack inovations (also the same 3-item carry formulae, which felt dated to me back in the early 90's).
Thank you man!! Really glad you enjoyed that, and that it also brought back some nice nostalgic memories. And yea Fast Food Dizzy was decent, and I think Kwik Snax was the best and my favourite of those spin off arcade Dizzy's - that was class! Shame Dizzy never progressed beyond the 16-bit era really yea.
No way, can’t believe there was a map 🤦🏻♂️ loved the atmosphere of this game, so reminiscent of the movie, oppressive, claustrophobic and terrifying - got absolutely nowhere near completing it
Thanks mate! That almost sounds like a Darling's quote you'd find on the back of a Codemaster's game box! So I should edit my thumbnail and put it on there as a quote! 😄
Fantastic video Xyphoe! This was the last Dizzy game I ever got, and it brings back many fond memories on the C64. The first time we also got a full colour version too, which at the time was very exciting. The jump was a lot more forgiving compared to the original game and the Game Genie split of the map into levels was useful. It was a bit too easy overall though. Loved the whip innuendo in Daisy's room too - didn't go unnoticed, even when I was 11 years old playing the game! :D
The whip didn't go unnoticed by The Oliver Twins in their dev notes/documents either!! Alas it was too late the game had already gone to the duplicators by the sounds of it!! Thanks for the nice comment too - I sadly missed out on this game, I don't remember seeing this much in shops at the time and if I was going to splash out on a full price game it probably would have been something else to be honest... the last Dizzy game I bought was the preceding one (Prince Of The Yolk Folk).
Thanks mate! Glad you liked this and I hoped it wasn't too intrusive into the longplay - people who want just the longplay I've uploaded it as a separate pure longplay video (no commentary or added bits) as an unlisted vid - there's a link in the description. But yea, cheers and I too enjoyed playing it and also wish I had it back in the day. I stopped at the preceding game - Prince Of The Yolk Folk, I never really saw this one in the shops at the time. After Xmas 1992.... it was hard to find Amstrad stuff in 1993.
Great vid Xy. I remember getting this when it was released (13 yo) and thinking at the time it was not worth a tenner even though it was an okay game. I think I played it twice at them most. Also, you have too many CPCs so I offer to take the 664 of your hands as a favour ;)
Thanks Joe! If you still have it, then it may be worth a bit of dosh now! Not 664 money though, so yea ... I think I'll keep it if it's all the same to you mate! lol 😂
I completely forgot about this. I had one when I was 5! I remember playing this as my first ever game. Crazy nostalgia. Didn’t even know this was a thing. Thank you for uploading. ❤
As someone who never owned an Amstrad but now thinks it may have overall been the best 8-bit, to show the Amstrad off from back-in-the-day I'd be thinking: Robocop, Sorcery +, Xyphoes Fantasy, Chase HQ, Mission Genocide (for the scrolling), Head Over Heels, Stormlord, Rick Dangerous 2, Get Dexter and Gryzor. People comparing it to the C64 always pick the Spectrum ports, sadly.
"and with that crouch you can do a little crouch punch"... The name of the game is The Way of The Exploding Fist - and that actual move is what you described as a little crouch punch 😮💨 Learning all the moves would have helped you, after flipping past don't flip back, use the turn jab or turn knee kick move - jab is quicker but kick has more range if you jumped too far.
Fantastic video as always Xyphoe. You are completely correct as not only advertisements but also Amstrad Action also previewed this early in 1992 as an Amstrad GX4000 cartridge game and never mentioned a disk version at all. Very clearly this was then converted to the 6128 Plus as Amstrad wasn’t going to make a bigger cartridge size and Ocean didn’t want to abandon an almost completed game. Such as a pity as this could have potentially been a very good game if done correctly on the Plus machines. Fantastic video and a big fan. Keep up the fantastic work.
