Sailing Vagabond Epicurean We are a retired couple that have left the corporate world behind. We now live, travel and work part-time on our 1975 30ft Islander Bahamas sailboat. Over the past several years we have completed many up-grades and are learning to sail on the Chesapeake Bay.
We are now ready, or we think we are ready to start exploring the ICW south, the Bahamas, Caribbean and perhaps more.
All about sailing lifestyle, cruising, sailing, DIY projects, fixing up your boat, adventure, fun in the sun, marina hopping waterfront destinations.
Try spraying the the fitting on the heater liquid wrench and let soak. I couldn’t tell from your description if it is possible to strike the fitting with a couple of sharp blows when you try to turn turn it with the the wrench. Be patient and repeat the liquid wrench trying to loosen and maybe tighten a little just to get some sort of movement.
thanks i will the liquid wrench, It is difficult to get the hammer or other tool on there, I may have to remove the cage that is around the shift and throttle cables
I am sorry for this. It is working on my computer and tablet. I have heard of this issue from other RU-vidrs. Please try it again in an hour or so, is what i have been told. Also here is some other advice I was having that problem where I lost sound on part or all of videos that used to have sound and I just stumbled on this and it seemed to fix the problem. This is for Windows 11, so I’m not sure how to get to it on other operating systems, but if you are using Windows 11 right click on the sound icon in the task bar, click sound settings, and click the button where it says Mono Audio to the On position. Hope this helps
depends on the weather, i know a person who travels all around the bay in Whaler, not sure of the size but i know its around that 13ft mark. Be safe, have fun and thanks for watching
You can get the paper charts for free. I'll look up the URL link if you'd like. Are you still in Tolchester? Met you a few years back when you were at the Emporium.
Watch those mast attachments. I was on a new boat and the spinnaker sheets jumping around yanked the mast light right off. (And sure spinnaker or kite.. shouldn't do that, but there's a learning curve. ) And none of those operational steps are self explanatory. Definitely a cheat sheet is needed.
I just bought one (a descender for $7). Yes it costs less but it is smaller in size. But then my boat is only 15 feet so I am sure the 3500 kg rating is enough and it is made of aluminum. The Stainless steel boom brake would certainly be stronger and if I were on my dream boat (30 foot cutter) I would not hesitate to spend $60 for it. In any case the info here is useful.
I know I might not get a response since this is an old video and you might not know the name of the music anymore but what's the name of the music playing during the intro of the video I'm just curious because it sounds interesting.
It’s so interesting to know you are living and fishing on Top of Meteor crater that is 53 miles in diameter. The meteor hit 35 million yrs. Very close to Cape Charles. The diameter reaches across the Chesapeake Bay toward Hampton. If you look at a map of the mouth of the James River near Hampton you can see where the River turns upwards slightly before it enters the Bay. That is a ridge of the crater.
I loved this Dom. More videos of you sitting on your boat with cigar and scotch but telling stories. Those types of videos would be massive in my humble opinion. I could listen to you for hours and hours. Tell us about your motor boat you used to have. Your adventures thru the Great Lake locks etc etc. please!!!!
You confirmed alot for me with this episode.i have 300 AH battery capacity, 820 W solar ,400W wind generator, and it seems like a comparable draw . Hell it's a Pearson p30 I think our boats are very similar, with the exception of the Captain's experience . Your show feels like it's tailored to me every time
I recently added a lithium 200ah house bank and changed out my Xantrex 1000 inverter/charger pass through to a stand alone Xantrex 1800w with pass through. I wanted a separate charger for my starting battery and house bank. It is a bit of confusion and if your not comfortable with AC stuff hire a consultant. You could just add a stand alone inverter and have a shut off breaker and only turn on when your off shore power. You never want to have inverter on with shore power unless you have a pass through switch.
thanks for tine info. I like the idea of the shut off breaker and have thought about that. Also hiring a consultant is a good idea, I dont want to burn down the boat!🔥🎆
last year when i checked with them they wanted a $3,000 deposit because my boat is old, 1975. and that was for a short haul, just out, clean the bottom and back in. I have never had that happen, i no thanks 🥹But thanks for thinking of me 😊🍸
@@VagabondEpicurean that is not the experience that i had So sorry that is what you received. My boat is a 1976 vintage Try again, Andy is a good guy and have been fair.
ON THE STARTER TRY A ONE SIZE LARGER WIRE ON THE FEED SIDE. HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY ATOMIC 4 ENGINE. WENT FROM 16 GA. TO 14 GA. HOT WIRE. PROBLEM SOLVED.
You ADDED this as a sub panel off of your main DC PANEL did you use over current protection for this subpanel? What size fuse is on your main dc panel?
@@VagabondEpicurean ouch I wonder what kind of unit I could get to replace the sprayer in my wet head. Like a wall mounted heater and sprayer. I'm going to look around
Sometimes I wish I had doors, but with the extra wide companionway on my boat, having one or two hatchboards in helps control swamping type situations.
