I would like to install gold tuning machines on my new RD-342. Does anyone know if these will work without major modification? GROVER STA-TITE™ WITH 18:1 GEAR RATIO (97-18 SERIES)
Hi Adam. I just got one of these awesome guitars. I’m going to go with a couple of your mods. The pins and pickguard are easy. What did you use for tuning machines? Did they drop in or require fitting?
The D28 was better than the RK Rosewood but it's close...too close when a $1000 competes with 10K or whatever a '55 is worth; might be even more for all I know..
hey, man! it’s Hailey, from David’s house! met you with Joe Mullins band on Friday! what a small world, i just came back to learn this for a gig only to realize i liked this video an entire year ago and it’s YOU! such a sick performance, man!
Every Eastman acoustic I’ve ever played has a full neck. Bigger on average than the neck profile on a standard D18. IMO they’re probably the most comfortable necks out there, at least for my hands.
Would you give away your martin my name is Jamie MacDonald I was mentally challenged I have add ADHD OCD turrets spectrums autism along with depression and anxiety. I stay in bed 24/7 the only time that I get out of bed is to go for guitar lessons on Wednesday nights
Thanks for the great video and comparisons. The RK's are not as open and full bodied, but will come to life over time and if JP Cormier promotes the RK brand (music.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dVpkVs_LyX0.html), buy with confidence. There's a lot of poly on the RK's. Need to wear that finish off. lol I wouldn't hesitate buying either of the RK's and hold my head high with a smile that I didn't pay +$3K for a standard Martin. I play a Martin D-18, paid way too much and also have a boutique D-28, but about to pull the trigger on the RO-342 (000). I need a smaller body guitar because that shoulder gets tight jacked up there in the air for long periods of time and what I've come to realize in 30+ years of playing is light to medium finesse strumming and picking sounds so much better than just digging in and pushing the guitar to the limit of compression. something to consider. In Bluegrass everyone is banging as hard as they can, especially those banjo players. haha It all starts to sound the same. Don't get mad at me, I've been playing bluegrass and gospel bluegrass for many years, so I type with experience. 👍
incredible sound and excellent picking, mine doesn't sound nowhere near that good, but I still have the original strings on her plus the plastic bridge pins - I have an RD328 as well, can't decide which one to keep
Very good comparison Adam. I made myself listen with good headphones and they all sounded very good. Maybe the Martin was warmer. I picked up a used RO-318 a couple weeks ago and after a good setup and new strings, WOW! I was just fingerpicking some Paul Simon on it and was astounded on how good it sounds and plays. RKs seem to be in short supply locally, is availability is stores currently an issue?
As much as they're all good guitars, the Martin is sooooo much more open and mellow-sounding. To my ears it is, hands-down, the best of the three...but then it is almost 70 years old and has opened up a LOT in that time.
Great talking with you yesterday at Sullivan, Illinois. I love my new Recording King mandolin. I've never played anything that plays or sounds better. You played soooo good yesterday. (I was the old, old guy with the beard)
A music shop owner in Canada , mentioned that the action has to be adjusted on the Recording King, after getting three buzz notes. before buying it I own a Martin x model - laminate with the same Martin quality The Recording King, has more of a banjo tone. Comparable to a Yamaha, or Epiphone All well and good Guitars are a personal choice Martin"s laminate guitars are more weather resistant After a number of years even a D- 18 or D 28 needs attention to get back to playing . $720.00 vs $2,800.00 ( D-18) It's still Martin quality
I just opened up my RK75 to clean it and change strings etc. What I found was oblonged holes drilled n the rim, the threaded rod in the heel of the neck was drilled off center. It literally looked like a child put this together. 1700 dollars and I am stuck with a complete piece if junk. If you thought Greg Rich would never let this happen at RK after all he went through at Gibson, then you got another thing coming. Terrible quality control. Awful.
It is a great honor of my life to have spent so many years in this band, and I can honestly say every performance was a real joy. We all always looked forward to our weekly rehearsals, where we seriously worked on our music, but also enriched our friendships and respect for each other's abilities and character. I wouldn't trade these times for anything.
