Similar multi curve block on utube is "blue onion" videos. more complicated to cut with special ruler, and lots of curves too. More blocks from one stack, but I think this one is prettier. Another commenter mentioned using scraps for less waste. Good idea. Worth making )))
Thank you! I agree that this is a great project for scraps. Save the "wasted" fabric (aka the trimmed fabric from the back) for collage projects, then it is put to good use :)
Just now I am watching this vedio it made me try to do with scrap fabric following your classes . I am zero knowledge in this., beggner. Your tutorials and colors combinations are awesome. You are superb. I hope you guide me. Thank you baby. I love you.
So fun to find you and your Wearable Waves! I've been wanting to make a vest and your technique is fabulous! I ordered your book and I'm getting the materials together while I'm waiting for it. I love your back designs too and I hope they are explained in your book. Thanks again!

It's the best solution since the fabrics are so tiny that if you quilt on them they fray so much that they kind of disintegrate. Another option you may prefer is to use a paper backed fusible to stabilize your fabrics and hence the edges, then you don't have to use the tulle (fine netting....not mesh). The result is a flatter look and a little harder to quilt through, but many have been happy with this approach. They key is to have fun!
Karen, This is such a lovely pattern! Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us. You are a wonderful teacher...I'm so glad to have found your site!
Does anyone know how this pattern reacts with longarm machine after you put the batting and back on? Is there issues with stitching as the sample shown has large X pattern.
@karen.eckmeier Thank you for answering me so. quickly. I really appreciate it. You sewed your quilt top on the diagonal, making an x design! What I wanted to do is sew roses into the quilt I made using free motion or the long arm.
Love it! But so much fabrics are wasted. This is like the Paper Iris Folding but no wasted papers. Would love to try it and frame it. Thanks for sharing.
Since this was done for a TV show, I wasn't allowed too much time to show all of the steps. For more details check out my book Wearable Waves on amazon.com and also my other 2 RU-vid videos: Quilted Waves Vest I and II.
Check out the size and measurement charts for the different brand of sweatshirts on the Jiffyshirt.com website. Each brand varies a lot with their measurements. Hopefully that will help you find the perfect fit. Good luck
This is fabulous method of stylized art. You do beautiful work. I've been having fun with this concept for years with colored cardstock. Such an easy relaxing way for anyone to express themselves.
The fabric is not ruined as you say, nor is it wasted. The extra material used creates the fabric base for the tiny curved pieces to be created. It won't work any other way, unless you enjoy working with really tiny pieces.....and I prefer these topstitched curves :)
Thankyou Karen for sharing your knowledge on this creative simple flow of textiles. I am very excited to try quilting for the first time without strict boundies involved. I love textile art as there is no need for functionality its all aesthetic.
I like this block design except for the waste it produces. I would have to figure out a way to avoid the waste in order to use it. Thanks for the tutorial.
