Welcome to my RU-vid channel. I'm Brett Weiss, author of 12 books, including the Classic Home Video Games series, The 100 Greatest Console Video Games: 1977-1987, and The SNES Omnibus. My latest is The NES Omnibus: The Nintendo Entertainment System and Its Games, Volume 1 (A-L). I like video games and other aspects of pop culture. A lot. And I enjoy talking about them. I've been gaming since 1975 and writing professionally about video games and pop culture since 1997. My latest venture is called Tales from a Retro Gamer, a RU-vid series where I discuss the history of gaming from a personal standpoint. Things like my first video game, rare finds I've made, conventions I've attended, famous gamers I've met, the first time I played the NES, and more. I also do pop culture tours and gamer interviews. Enjoy! ►Check out more info on my retro gaming books: brettweiss.square.site/ ►Get lots of extras on Patreon: www.patreon.com/brettweiss
I collect mostly Japanese Saturn games because they’re cheaper. I like to play Marvel VS Street Fighter, my only American game Christmas nights, die hard arcade, I really want street fighter alpha 3 for Saturn but holy shit it’s expensive 😂
In the name of Brett Weiss’s Honor I will challenge Pat the NES punk to fist Kombat when I encounter him at a con very soon. His utter disregard for Bretts art, and yes his writing is a work of art, is disturbing. Pat will get what he deserves, IN YOUR HONOR BRETT.
@@BrettWeissRetroGamer I have every book you ever made Brett, I followed your writing BEFORE you were on youtube BRETT. FOR YOUR HONOR, I shall strike at PAT. I will make sure to tell him you send your regards as the challenge is made!
The Intellivision He Man was a Brazilian import (as were all the Intellivision games in that bin). The old school JerryG guide is almost impossible to find.
I like it when you say or show the prices, just for informational reasons. I realize that many games are displayed such that you can’t see the price tags. But when the tags ARE shown, you might pause for just a moment to show. Lots of us want to know just how much stuff goes for at these conventions.
I never owned an Atari 2600 I started gaming on a Magnavox Odyssey 2 in 1978 I bought my games from a local Electronic & Appliance store that sold Magnavox TV's etc. I had a few friends that had the 2600 at the time 😊
I was there! It was a great event. Very well organized, the floor plan was well thought out, vendors were very cool and tons and tons of stuff. From videos games to rare collectibles and cool clothes. Looking forward to the next one.
Game X Change is oddly a great vendor at conventions and terrible at retail. I wonder if any companies go after small vendors for copyright at these show?
Always great chatting it up with you there every year. There was indeed a TON of Sega stuff on the floor this year, and a lot more TG16/PCE games than usual, too.
Is Mutant League really hard to find?! Wow, wouldn't have guessed! How about one signed by someone on the dev team? What do you think that would go for? 🤔 I mean, I can sign my copies... 😅 The camera was cruising pretty quickly, so I stopped counting how many games I made are in this vid, but I really need to get out to one of these!
Looks awesome and once again, it falls on a weekend that I can't make it. Hopefully next year. In the meantime, I do wonder if any of these more expensive "grails" are actually selling. I've been doing local shows and if I have a game over $100, it doesn't move - heck I can't even get someone to make me an offer. The only exception seems to be quality Pokemon CIB games - those are selling like wildfire! Really appreciate seeing all of the SEGA love at the show! I think I would have to take out a second mortgage to attend.... Great video and thanks for sharing!
Also, I meant to comment on some of the dealers. I truly appreciate the vendors who actually take the time to price their items up front. Even though they are typically a little on the high side, they are normally willing to negotiate. The vendors who don't price their items at all (like Yellow Rose in your video) don't even get a look from me. I don't have time to wait for them to check ebay sold prices for every game - plus if I want ebay pricing, I'll buy it on EBAY! Just my .02
Here's a secret, when we shot the basement scene at the abandoned mall, we had to cover Eric's body with Jay's jacket because 2 years had gone by and Eric lost almost half his body weight and he looked completely different from when we first started shooting!
Hi! I bought a used version of this game recently and it's complete minus the cards that go behind the game board. I only have one of them. Any chance I could purchase scanned pdf copies of them from you? It's a random ask, but i'd love to have a complete, playable version.
Why on Earth would a retro arcade ruin the experience of HEARING the sounds of the classic games by having music blasting? I’ve only ever been to “retro arcades” in Tokyo, and luckily there is no music playing in their arcades. Just the audio coming out of the classic video game machines...as it should be!
