I have always considered myself a bit of a creator, whether it be woodworking in my past life, or a photographer and live video producer in my current business - I have always found myself wanting to create, and I love getting my hands dirty. I love trying new things and recently purchased a diode laser and 3D printer to feed the creative fire burning inside me, and I have to say, I'm loving it. I want this channel to be an exploration of crafty type hobbies, most things I'm willing to have a go at, and most importantly be willing to learn along the way. I consider myself a "Jack of all trades, master of none" and I'm OK with that. If I can help you move forward with your hobby of craft pursuit, then it's a win/win. Be createful! (that's creative and grateful :))
hey, you got a new sub great work. I'm trying to create the greyscale in gimp but I'm having a hard time on it since it's hard to create shapes i would like to have the test file you used before for my first laser machine sculpfun icube 5w. awesome
sorry for the delay getting back to you - I only have the dither test for slate available by the looks - hopefully that might help? drive.google.com/file/d/1qal-eg1MIKSei1JHdN-U2CqRBTV2Oqem/view?usp=sharing
Thank you. I am a retired IT Trainer and this is the only video I have seen where you go through the entire screen explaining what all the controls do and how to use them. Well done. I have a couple of complicated pictures that I want to cut up, you video gives me the confidence to do this now. I would give more than one thumbs up if I were able.
this works perfectly when you have a laser machine that is perfectly square 400x400 is ideal; everything lines up fine, but when you have a bed size that is 400x430 in my case, nothing works. i am trying to follow along with your video but my grid is all off.
Thank you, let's make this work ! I am medically disabled, and I am doing this to help my wife and I financially. I plan on committing as much time as possible to make this work. Cutting boards, wallets, ornaments, dog tags etc.
Good on you Ben - I reckon you can do anything you put your mind to, as long as you learn the lessons along the way, what works, what doesn't - always be learning, be creative and stay grateful :)
Thanks Maurice, if I take the glasses off my head and put them down somewhere, there's a good chance I won't remember where I put them, maybe it's time for the reading glass necklace ;) - yep I know the hands might be a bit much, I will endeavour to perhaps superglue them down for the next one :)
Nice review on different lasers .. Just a small error. Sadly the Xtool S1 does not have a camera.(otherwise, there would be 1 on my desk :( You have to use the laser head to mark your pieces. It is the only reason why I do not want it
@@mrcraftsmith I figured that bit out very early this AM when I took another shot at it. Thank you. :) I need to make my grid a little bigger but I get it now. Thanks again.
Were those the ears of an Indian or an African elephant? An African elephant's ears are bigger, and they also happened to be shaped like the continent of Africa. Cool, huh? I appreciate your intelligent approach to all of this. There's so much YooToob fluff, out there.
I had just been engraving a compass rose on a tile yesterday and it took 1 hour - and I thought exactly the same thing: why isn't LightBurn smarter and always traverses over the blank middle. By choosing "fill shapes individually" I get down to under 30 minutes. Excellent tip!
I have had some limited success - haven't really had much time to work with it unfortunately - I'm in the middle of a very busy photo season (my regular business) so hoping to have more time to experiment in the coming months
@@mrcraftsmith my best so far is 25 pct tio2 and iso only via a spray gun . I saw a paper that said max light dissipation required 30 pct tio2 and spacing between particles , I assume the more fight the tio2 puts up the more it absorbs the energy from the laser? No paint companies will tell me the exact tio2 content, it must be a guarded core component in their formula. But knowing light scattering maxes at 30pct then drops off seems significant
I guess the spoil board is more aimed at engraving than cutting. If you have a honeycomb then you are not going to see the alignment of your job for cutting. Probably a good video to consider doing is how to position for cutting?
Good video. My biz is new but I’ve had good luck finding niches. One odd thing was I made Russian Crosses for people who wanted them due to the fact most crosses sold are the more western design. I appreciate you being honest and not peddling clickbait.
Thanks for tuning in - yep - I think that is one of the keys to success, is identifying a need/problem and providing a solution. I think that has been my first problem kicking of this side hustle experiment - will have a video coming out shortly to explain.
Never heard of using glue, but if you mix it into some 90% isopropylic alcohol, you can spray that like paint. Let it dry, do the engraving, and wash the unlazered parts off to get your shiny tile back.
could you do a video on how to create that graytscale chart, and exactly how you IMAG-r processed it and loaded it into lightburn? mine keeps going wonky
how do you mean "going wonky" so I better understand your problem? I have stopped using IMAG-r and I believe it has now incorporated the levels function
G'day Paul - I have another updated video - you will see in the description the link to access the spreadsheet with all the updated models and specifications ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LrK9lIY1sow.html
Tutorial is great. I've been making stuff with a laser cutter for about a year now. I'm ready for your cardboard box design. Yes please email me a copy. Thanks for your guidance and sharing. Wayne
Hi Carol - not really sure what you mean - slate being the dark background as opposed to white. The image needs to be inverted to get a "positive image".
@@mrcraftsmith I’ve been trialling a lot of 3d images rather than photos, for 3d I’ve found that the image pops off the slate better, or the 3d effect is more pronounced, when not inverted.
Just got a cheaper 5W laser engraver off of marketplace and excited to try it. I am a woodworker and have made some furniture pieces and trays before. I am thinking to make and engrave monitor stands. What do you think about this product?
Hi Sarah - a couple of questions I guess regarding the monitor stands - what designs do you have in mind? for both the monitor stands and engravings - are you planning on personalising with engravings? is there much market for that type of product in your area - or are you planning on shipping? you could start by making a couple for friends or family and share on your socials in local community groups and see what sort of feedback you get - I did a video about that type of "no sales marketing" here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pDfgrGE8X5E.htmlsi=UW6dmuiBC-ikjeRJ - might be worth a shot :) let me know how you go
Hi Darren did you ever get good results with the titanium dioxide powder mixed with alcohol. I have tried this but the application is a nightmare. With a spray it blotched and with a brush the lines are visible and thickness varies. Have you heard of, or come up with any other method of application?
I did try a couple but similarly I couldn't get an even coating with what I had available at the time - I kinda lost interest after that and have moved onto other stuff - I do have a spray gun now that might work but i also thought of doing like a dip - it works in my head at least - my schedule with my regular business means I have very little time for that type of experimentation unfortunately :(
