This is a 2 part series where I show you in this video how to easily design your own Laser Engraving Waste Board directly in Lightburn software.
The purpose of a waste board is to help you easily align your work to be engraved in the perfect position every time so you don't waste time having to re-do jobs.
It also protects your own furniture from "silly mistakes" that may happen from time to time.
In the next video in this series, I'll engrave the design and set-up my Ortur Laser Master 3 and "attach" it to the waste board, with a couple of little tricks to make sure you get perfect allignment every time. Here's the link for that video • No More CROOKED jobs -...
Thanks for watching, be creative and stay grateful. :)

Darren watched all of your videos and found them very informative. Your knowledge of Lightburn is impressive for such a short time using it. What you know about photo processing is bringing an entirely different prospective to laser engraving. I would like to thank you for the hard work put in to making these videos and look forward to watching and learning much more from them. One other comment, the quality of the videos and audio is outstanding.

Thanks Darren, love your style I am getting my first diode laser next week and am binging many videos before hand and so far yours are in the top two and the only competition is that the other guy has about 100 videos so far except for that there not even daylight between your clear style and helpful tips! Keep up the good work mate! Can't wait to see more.

Thanks for watching Burt - I reckon the benefit of understanding how to do it means you can create any number of custom waste grids depending on the application 👍

If you put Text into Line instead of fill, it will be much faster, it will do the same way but will do lot faster

Depends on the font used - I prefer fill over line which just gives an outline

Nice tutorial Darren, or it would have been if I was called Einstein. I am far from computer literate mate, so I understood very little of the subject you have been explaining. Although the grid you created was first class buddy. In my case I will have to have a look online for something similar and download a file. Thanks again for your tutorials, I am learning from most of them mate.

Thank you Darren for explaining in detail how to make wasteboard grid, array & CSV is great idea. I am using Inkscape for design and LaserGrbl for engraving the grid on MDF, in Inkscape how much should I set the stroke width for the lines on the gird (not sure whats the minimum in mm) for engraving with LM2 pro 10A?
@mrcraftsmith
@mrcraftsmith 9 месяцев назад
Hey Abu Sam - glad you found it helpful - I'm not all that familiar with Inkscape however in reality you only need 1 pixel width for the stroke as you are engraving a line, not trying to "fill" the line - hope that helps :)

Great videos. Thanks Darren. I just can’t understand why you make your scale start at 10mm rather than 0mm. Hope you will explain in Part II what I have missed.
@mrcraftsmith
@mrcraftsmith Год назад
Hey there that is a valid question - I wanted to add the labels on the outside of the grid - if I started at 0mm I would not have space outside the grid as the maximum work area is 400mm x 400mm - does that makes sense?
@thorus528
@thorus528 Год назад
@@mrcraftsmith Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, that makes perfect sense. I am thinking of moving my labelling inside the grid, using thicker lines every 5 cm (once I worked out HOW). I also want to fix some kind of hard stop in that 0/0 corner to push the material against and then figure out a way to clamp objects down to the wasteboard (maybe something with inlaid nuts). Since I working with a moving bed I worry things might slide around at faster speeds.
@mrcraftsmith
@mrcraftsmith Год назад
Sorry I missed this one - what sort of speeds are you using that you think your work is going to slide around?

Hi Darren, thank you for the amazing videos, I'm learning a lot! I'm trying to make the grid but I got stuck when drawing the first line, I followed step by step but everytime I draw the line it shows Width: 1.644, so when I array, at the line 33 it shows all the grid full, but it doesn't match the grid lines. When I try to put a 0 in width, the line disappears. Could you help me realize what I'm doing wrong? Also, I have the extension kit, so I used 830 for height. Thanks!!

Hi Darren, since you've posted the video, have you updated to the last version of lightburn 1.4.04? The snapping to grid doesn't seems to work for me, it won't snap to the grid at all while holding ctrl, or alt as mention in the documentation, just wondering if it's the same for you?
