Great video!! Looks like pretty good, i have two questions: how many layers in each sides and how to make the hat less fluffy, i would like more of the hat was more hard, how i make It? Love your video!! Thank you so much!
The more you rub the hat, the harder it gets. Plan for it to shrink as you rub. Also to remove fuzz: wait for the hat to dry completely then take a lit match or lighter and let it travel over the surface of the wool. The fuzz will shrivel up and can be brushed away. Wool is not flammable.
I don't use any. I just add the liquid pectin. You can add water, but you'll just boil it off. The fruit has its own liquid, so you really don't need it.
I do teach at a few primitive gatherings right now. I will be at Between the Rivers in Washington at the end of May. 😊 I also teach at Elkhorn Gathering and Rabbit sticks.
I do not wash my wool. I do use wool that is free from debris. My wool felts so well, that washing it causes it to begin felting. The felting process cleans the wool. You can see from my other videos how to choose and prepare wool.
The cement is notil mixed that way. This is Topping cement which has a polymer in it that holds things together better (quickrete topping cement...other brand will do but that's the best) and we added a bit more polymer that is often called "milk"
What do you do to the plywood floor before putting the cement on it? Do you seal it? After all the flooring is complete do you put some type of sealant over it? Looks very cool!
Great tips in your video. I'm new to wet felting and need all the knowledge of experienced crafters. I wish I could find the video that finishes this project. Ty
Thanks so much for this terrific informative style of yours. I was wondering when I saw the book of matches on your tray, whether you were going to light the hat on fire afterwards as I have seen many do. Would that actually burn off the longer stray fibers and leave you with a smoother finish or no?
That is exactly right. Once the hat is dry, you can burn off the extra hairs. Make sure it is absolutely dry. The hat will not start on fire. Wool doesn't do that. The hairs will just shrivel up and you can brush them off.
