Hello! Welcome to my page. This is a page showing the renovation and repair of old audio devices. I do renovations primarily as a hobby, I started making the videos mainly for my own entertainment, but I am happy to share them with others, in case it helps during a similar repair. RETRO DECK
Akai GX-730D is one deck that is extremely difficult to repair compared with Pioneer and Sony made in the same years. But its well worth it for the sound. In good working condition it actually sounds like the GX-747 open reel deck
Основная фишка 220 - это ускоренная запись одновременно двух сторон кассеты, ну а послушать ее не переворачивая можно и в других деках, где автореверс предусмотрен.
@@user-ld3tc2mr3g Yes. It doesn't play back there. can only play normally. However, the heads are 2x2 channels. Thus, even when playing in one direction, it plays and records sides a and b simultaneously in accelerated mode.
The type is smd 0603, they are sized for a all of 2.1 volts. It should have a low brightness, which is approx. 8-14 mcd. But you have to experiment with it, because the light of the red and green LED is different.
I also have this machine, I've been working on it for a week now. One thing I have noticed - the RW torque as applied to the supply reel (leftmost) needs to be strong because the take-up reel (rightmost) is highly frictional. The main clutch at the rear must be able to generate high-slip friction. The small square belt I use is 37.5mm diamter x 1.5mm x 1.5mm; a slack belt won't be able to transfer the torque as applied by the motor pulley. Although, I think a 38mm ... 40mm diameter is okay, but *1.2mmx1.2mm* thickness is no good.
If you can give a tip where to look please? My f11 in mint cosmetics, nicely play and ff/rew after tyre change. BUT it does not completely erase old records 😢 some 10% volume stays. Any professional advise where to look? Mechanics or electrics? PS looks like I assembled it correctly after tyre change, spring in place, front plate on mechanism goes up smooth. Thank you in advance.
Hello. There is probably an electrical problem. If the recording and playback quality is good, then the combo head is probably good. Check the wiper head. The resistance of the heads must be measured. If it is OK, then the oscillator signal feeding to the heads must be checked. You can check the signal with an oscilloscope. The signal is only in recording mode, then you can measure it and search for errors. Check the transistors TR14 TR15 TR16 marked in the service book connected to the oscillator and the specified voltages.
Hello, I just changed the belts on my AKAI GX 65. Unfortunately, after switching it on, the counter flashes and it doesn't work. Heads don't go up. At least you could fast forward beforehand. Maybe you have some advice. The drive position is probably not correct.
Update Jun 4th, 2024, i own the TC-K1A/2A/4A/5 and 6 and . . . . the TC-229SD. Skip the TC-K7II. Make my own RM-30. Renew elco's, belts and pinchroller. Mechanisch for auto stop is from poor quality. Demagnetisize the audioheads. The blue finish on the VU meter lamps are removed so it gives a warm white light I love more.
Hi, I have just bought an Aiwa AD 6350 cassette deck, it needs new belts, can you do a video please on fitting new belts? When i press down on all the buttons the motor runs, good sign.
I just put one of them off the internet that looks like a complete nightmare to repair I'm pretty confident and repairing stuff but that's Be on my ability of there's a problem with it I have about 28 different tape decks a very in price all sort of mid to high end you can get a bit addictive 👍👍
We had this cassette deck!!!!! LOVED IT! Wow. This video brought back a lot of memories very clearly. Made many many recordings on it. It cost about $450 from Tweeter Etc back in 1983. If it actually is the same model we had, you could high speed dub both sides A and B at the same time. So you could duplicate a 60 minute cassette in 15 minutes, for example. First time I used that, I copied a cassette that had Linda Ronstadt What's New on side A and George Winston's Autumn on Side B. It sounded remarkably good. Other first recordings I made were of new LPs I bought...Santana' MoonFlower, Steely Dan Greatest Hits 1974-1978, Donald Fagen's The Nightfly. Used most TDK SA-90 cassette. Used Loran cassettes when I could find them...they were the best in my opinion. I'm really impressed with your technical ability here to repair this beast. I never ever saw inside it and can't believe how intricate it is. Amazing job cleaning it. Looks great!. Good luck.
Unfortunately, the problem with this series is that the plastics break over time. It can be improved, and it is now possible to print fingers in good quality. Yes, it was usually the CT-3A type with the black roof.
mam pytanko ile taki sewis tego magnetofonu wyniósł, mam taki sam magnetofon i zastanawiam się czy warto go oddać do naprawy działa dobrze ale ostatnio odmówił współpracy i nie ciągnie kaset.
Great video. Thank you. Im trying to order tyres. FF and REF is not strong. Are there 2 or 3? Some ads have 2, some 3. HiFiEngine says in comments only one needed, some12x2.5x2.5. But I want to change all. Thank you.
Thank you very much. Well, as far as I remember there is a capstan belt, a counter belt and two idlers. One of them is in the rewinding unit, which is very difficult to repair. And the other is the drive transfer. You can see both in the video.
I have ct 3070 r , same deck but in silver face , it s one of best sounding deck i ever heard , dolby b c dbx , and most important , transport is on tooth gears , if u lubricate them once couple years it will last a lifetime
@@retrodeck1956 autorevers , dolby b c hxpro , music search , and most important tooth gears transport , i cleaned mine and put some grease on them and play ....
Very nice work and video! Thanks1 Just a question.... I have an Akai GX-M10 that Im having problems closing the door... have to press hard and looks like it only closes the left side (there is a small hook inside)... Once it stays closed works well. but looking from the top you can see that the right side isn't really flash with the deck as it should be! Looks like something is jamming it (?)... THANKS for any help or hints!
Hello, thank you. As I recall, the cassette door is not built on the front panel in the gx10 deck. The front panel must be removed, then the cassette frame built on the mechanism must be dismantled together with the door. By removing it, you can check what is preventing the cassette door from moving. If it's OK, check that you put it back on the mechanics. It is likely that the door damper or springs were previously repaired and not properly assembled.
Thanks a lot for your reply… really appreciated. Actually I ended up opening the deck and discover what is the cause. I just don’t know the name of the part or neither I can see it in the manual. It’s a little still plate/lever located top center half inside … I think it’s broken…I would post a pic but not possible here! Thanks again… I have to try and know the name of that plate(small) and its function!
@@audioholmes My experience is that you rarely need to adjust the motor speed for these devices. But if you set it up, you would need an oscilloscope and a signal generator. Most of the problems are caused by belt or pinch roller faults.
@@retrodeck1956 I apreciate your fast answer. Thanks very much. No one had even answered before. I couldn't find this manual a long period of time. Hi from Uzbekistan.
@@dmltriykosilov2279 Glad I could help, these retro Akai VCRs are rare and I love them. Unfortunately, I only have one of VS 12 and it is also waiting for repair. Good luck with the repair. Greetings from Hungary.
Excellent video. I have that Sony STR-212L receiver, I bought it from a neighbor; but, it does not tune to AM radio. I would like to repair it, but I don't have the service manual for that receiver. I would be very grateful if you would share the diagram with me... Greetings.
You can use any high-quality car polish. I show polishing in several of my videos, so I didn't do it here. E.g. watch the video on repairing the Aiwa Ad-450. What I used here is Menzerna Finish 3000.
@@Brandhink Hello, yes, this is usually a problem with these devices. According to my memory, when you start playback, a switch turns off the automatic stop relay. Check this switch, maybe the control lever that activates it is located at the belt path.
Hey! I’m thinking about buying a AD-6600U to repair, do you know if the internals of this model are similar enough to that model? If so, this video would be incredibly helpful!
I have the same deck but in black... The problem is that the sound is like oscilating, as if the tapes were bad, the sound goes up and down, it sounds distant... I already cleaned everything that can be cleaned within my reach.
Usually, the pinch roller has to be replaced, it is old and therefore does not guide the tape evenly. But it could also be because of the belt. Or worse, the capstan motor is faulty.
The inside is pretty similar to the VS5, though that is a top loader. Most Akai decks from that generation turned to on screen display, which they themselves called 'Interactive Monitoring System'. The VS5 had a detailed display and had a warning buzzer for errors. If the loading belt was slipping or there was something with the loading gears, resulting in the 2 blue loading switches not being triggered the unit did not turn on and switched of just like this one. Only the word 'Breakdown' was displayed and you had to reset the main power switch on the back to get it out of that condition again. If the issue was not solved the word just return after 3-4 seconds. Very annoying yet funny.
Üdvözlöm. Az aiwa 220 deck miatt kerestem meg. H a tudna nekem segiteni ? Hello! Amennyiben a feszültségek megvannak, akkor a mikroprocesszort ellenőrizném.
