Wow. Now this is old school. I had this one, courtesy of my dad. RIP dad. You’re doing great work creating content for these old titles that would otherwise be lost to time.
I love both soundtracks and versions but it's a shame that Overdrive never made it to the PS1 port. I grew up with the DOS original but primarily Descent II on Windows 95 and later DOS/source ports.
Had no idea the redbook was original to the Mac version. I would stick the discs in my CD player at night while I was going to sleep back in the day, and they were some of the first mp3s I ever ripped. Still have those files on my phone.
I clearly have never had an original experience, I was trying to remember the name of this game, found "The Idiots" at Mac Observer, MacAddict, and then found this video. Thank you for archiving this.
Jared was one of the bosses in Kill Monty (circa 2005). He would circle around Jen while shooting at her, all while singing this song. It was both hilarious and horrifying
Version 2.0 is much improved over the original, which was indeed too difficult. Props to the player for actually being competent, unlike most footage I've seen on youtube! It's also cool to hear the original sound effects, which tend to not work when emulating on Basilisk II.
In case anyone is looking for it via "unicycle robot one wheel platformer game". Play Different let me know Sammy the Cyclebot 1995 & Quagmire 1993 was what I was looking for.
A yes, I saw the black and white versions and they looked familiar, but THIS one was definitely the one I remember. The big balls that are dropped. The red wings. I don't think I ever saw you make the lava hand come up though.
The commercial at 12:26 is from YDKJ Television. That is the hidden dialogue that is unlocked when the keys are pressed after the third time a player submits "F*#$ you" (uncensored) as their answer during a gibberish question.
