Lovely to see Mike away from the lathe and just reflecting again on some of his creations (I was never too sure about that burl on burl creation) . From a non turner perspective his early videos are golden He is a proper raconteur and teacher and now we know why. Thank you for putting this podcast together for us and may there be many more. Please please invite Andy Coates from Cobweb Crafts. He isn't anywhere on youtube but he is a real grafter and he has stories to tell that I guess will put hairs on your chest. The mahogany one in the parlour.
I agree with the recommendation of an interview with William Kenny. He's a great turner and I love his channel too. It was great hearing how you keep your ideas on a white board etc until you find a way to do them. You really have got a designer's brain, and it shows in your work. Thanks for doing this interview. It's very inspiring for us new turners taking it up as a hobby and not quite getting the results we want yet.
Thank you for this interview. Mike always comes across as such a nice and down to earth sort of guy. I'm going through his older videos now and really enjoy his work. What a treat to learn that he was a game designer! I'm one of the older guys that remember some of those titles, picking up my first PC and game in 1986. Anyway, thanks again from North Carolina and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend ahead.
you should definitely do more content. I visit for stuff at leasr every 5 weeks or so for wood/tools. maybe do a walking tour of your wood selection with tips on usage/treatments etc....
It’s such a shame that with the side extension on you can’t use the trolley jack to move the saw. The handle sits above the beds height, so you have to take the extension off every time you move the saw. Great saw though!
It would be nice to see what he is doing it would help. Better lighting camera close its very dull lighting were he is, would like to see more of this content but better set up
Hi Brian, thank you for your comments. We are aware of the improvements we need to make and working on them for the next one at the end of this month. These will be incremental changes over time as budget allows.
Thank you for your comment. This is quite an old video now. We are working on a bunch of new content that should have minimal sound issues. Hopefully this will be realeased from April onwards
First thing to do is thoroughly shake the tin! Also some useful advice on spreading the rag flat to dry to prevent spontaneous combustion would be very useful.
Hello Thanks for your video . I would like to ask a question. In many electric planers, whenever you change the blade you need to fine tune them. The two blades must be perfectly aligned in order to cut exactly the same. Otherwise, the wood finish has small waves. In your video I saw that you placed the blade and it is not necessary to refine its positioning. I ask if you just put the blades and they are exactly in the correct position?
Great video, really helpful! Two things to add/question: 1. The bolts unscrew counter-clockwise and you have to really twist the Allen key when first removing them 2. Does it matter how the pins are aligned to the blade? Should they be in the centre or at an edge or does it not matter?
Hi. In your experience using the Triton TPT125, did you encounter any major issue? I’m currently looking for a thicknesser, and the Triton looks a more cost optimized candidate in front of a Makita or Dewalt. Thanks
Thanks guys! The danish oil finish was not bad you know, albeit it wasn't the finish what I was after, nevertheless it was a finish which I am content with, so happy days ...
If I had to guess, given the price, this is made in China at the same factory that makes WEN's and Grizzly's. There might be some differences, but overall, probably the same exact internals.
