Thank you for this video! I appreciate your no-nonsense delivery, and the fact that while you are not gushing over touristy locations, it is possible for us to get a sense of how to plan our upcoming weekend there.
I just have a question regarding the car/driving in Switzerland. What did you guys do with the car every time you guys went somewhere not car friendly? For example, when you went to Zermatt? Or how about when you went to Lucerne? I’m told that parking in Europe is an expensive mess, which is why I’m leaning towards just traveling by train, but a road trip in a beautiful place like Switzerland does look very free. Any advice would be appreciated!
In both cases there was a parking station where you can just pay a fee for parking. Not cheap of course, but not outrageous (at least compared to my home city)... Street parking was also possible in a number of cities for shorter periods.
Looks great! We were asking ourselves whether our canper van would be able to conquer the road. But it really looks fine for the moet part :-) Would be great to hear if you have anything to add
The only section I wouldn't recommend (but it is possible) is the stretch of road that you would drive if you don't take the ferry between Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Westfjords. Its slow going and very isolated... Almost everywhere else was fine.
I visited Ephesus twelve years ago, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is definitely worth visiting if your interested in Ancient History.😀😀😀👍👍
I’ve never tried Sixt but Europcar have always been good for me… I generally just follow price, and make sure I have unlimited KMs in the agreement. Outside of that I don’t really care who the rental company is as long as it’s decent value and the security deposit isn’t crazy!!
Great guide! Definitely came across a lot of this on my road trip around Switzerland, especially being surprised by the car train! Been following you after coming across your Norway video. Keep up the great work.
Where is 7:39? Looks nice, better then some 'popular' fjords, more open wich i like. Thanks for video btw, planning to drive there for few weeks with own car. I'm surprised it's only 90 dollars for 'Toll', i'm estimating 300 just to be certain.
Good spotting :-) This was just before the town of Odda and was a random discovery on the side of the road called Sandvevatnet. The footage was taken at a small picnic spot facing the lake opposite the Trolltunga Hotel in Odda.
@@theslowtraveler2047 Tyvm for answer, this will be added to list, since staying longest time near Norheimsund. Spots like this are worth just stopping, even if just for short time.
Is the missus thinking: 1) "I can't let women online think he is single so I'll make sure to be in the shot at all times" Or 2) The only way to shoot video is in selfie mode.
Hi. I recently went for a holiday and rented a car in Dalaman, turkey. The company is called right cars. The rental car company turned out to be an absolute scam. They did not follow conditions written in the rental confirmation email. Instead of blocking the deposit they charged the actual credit card. Secondly, they charged a higher deposit of 900 Eur instead of Eur 650 written in contract. Thirdly, they charged in turkish lira using an exchange rate of their choice. It was 11pm at night and i had no option so I went along. Now I read their reviews online that they will do everything to avoid giving the deposit back. What are my options?
Probably just doing a charge back on your credit card…. I had a similar experience with a hot air balloon operator being sluggish with refunding after claiming to be sold out. Took a while but the bank sorted it out via the CC
Great video, answered a lot my question I had traveling to Turkey first time. How did you rent car ? Can you rent car in Istanbul drop off in another city? What kind of car did you recommend for family of 5?
Rented at the airport in Istanbul and dropped off at the airport close to Cappadocia… I would recommend the biggest car you can afford with that many people :-)
Starting on saturday our 2 weeks roadtrip through southern norway Nice tips, as specially the parking fee 😅👍🏻 Will the tolls be combined by your plate nr and you get a bill after you returned home? Or is it like paying all tolls everywhere on the street
We got billed by the rental company a couple of weeks after returning the vehicle. Not sure if all companies will handle the same way… have a great time!!! B
One app I’m glad I downloaded before my trip to Cancun last October is Immersive Translate. It’s a great way to get all your translations done, with over 100+ languages to select from. Everything is within a few clicks away.
We’re headed to Norway in August and I’m debating if Geiranger is worth the trouble considering how touristy and crowded it is. I mean there are great scenic overlooks and fjords everywhere, so, is this one really worth the trouble?
The skywalk and surrounding viewpoints are nice and not that crowded. The middle of town is only worthwhile if you would like to walk along the waterfall walk, which will only take 30 min. I wouldn't stay there overnight again and just stay nearby for half the cost.... The kayaking is amazing though if you have the time to spare and the energy :-)
Hie Anila from India we are planning to go Norway in june . Its my first European trip never done right side driving ,as indian driving Rules are different ,will it be difficult for me to drive there ? And any other option for traveling there who don't know driving .
I don’t think so. I am from Australia and we drive on the left hand side of the road. I didn’t have much trouble adapting to most things. The turning signal being on the other side of the steering wheel was the toughest :-)
I’m actually not sure of the cost. You don’t pay on arrival for the ferry and there are no signs (that I found). I was just billed for all tolls through the rental company after returning the vehicle in one charge.
I was in Norway this March and plan to revisit in summer, the whole road trip was scenery and unlike other countries where you have to find a beautiful spot to visit you just need to drive...
Agreed. You can go anywhere and have a different adventure… others have commented that the east is also very nice away from the coast. I hope to check it out one day :-)
Beautiful video and wonderful narration. Nice to have a tour of Scotland that's not distillery focused. Nothing wrong with those vids, but appreciate this point of view. Hope we can make it there someday.
Thanks for your comments. The distilleries are also worth visiting, I had done this on a past visit but my travel partner was not that interested in it. We also wanted to cover a lot of ground so we skipped past them on this trip.
As your camper had only sleeping arrangement …where you guys use to do toilet? Reason for asking is I am curious to know whether I should take motorhome or camper van for 2person
You must stay overnight in a proper campsite. They are everywhere and most have all the facilities you need :-) The various stopovers will also have toilets to use - it was never really a problem.
Great tips. We are going from Rome to Sorrento by train, staying in Sorrento for a few days, and travelling back to Rome by train. I thought we'd stop at Pompeii on either of those train trips. Realistically, can you travel from Rome to Sorrento or vice versa with a stop at Pompeii and get enough time there? If you pre purchase a regular entry ticket, not a skip the line ticket, can you skip the line and go straight to the entry? Also, if you take a guided tour, do you have to be on a certain tour at a certain time or do the run every so often and you can join any of them? Thanks.
There are campsites all over Iceland that have showers, bathrooms, and sometimes kitchens also. The various stopovers will also have toilets to use - it was never really a problem.
The prices will vary based on the time of year, and they have probably changed since our trip last year. Both times I have visited the country I rented through www.motorhomeiceland.com... Happy Camper is usually promoted by bloggers and RU-vidrs because they an affiliate program, but i found them to be poor value so I didn't use them (nor do I promote them).
Also remember when renting a car & choosing online to notice if the car is electric or fuel. I wanna go to Norway someday, but I'm renting a gas car. I don't wanna learn or wait at a charger on vacation. Just wanna pump & go. Some tourist from U.S., especially seniors may not be aware of this. I'm also glad to hear Norway has patient drivers. I'm from Ohio & when I visit California, they'll run you off the road even if you're trying to slow into a turn-out to let them pass.
