I think the t12 was what they called the test vehicle used to prove the concept, before it was approved for production. Once it was approved, different variants would be given different names.
@@MasterSquishies Yeah the only time I heard the use of the term T12 in connection with the M3 GMC was for the prototypes...and that 50 were sent to the Philippines and used by the Army. That the Marines called their M3 GMCs with 105 mm howitzers 'T12s' is new to me. I know there was an Army variant called the T19 HMC (howitzer motor carriage) that used a 105mm gun. If the Marines used that variant, I would think they'd call it an HMC too. So I'm at a loss.
@@Ocrilat The T19 HMC was an Army specific vehicle that used a 105mm gun, the T12 was the Marine specific vehicle that used a 105mm gun, and the T12 GMC or M3 GMC was the 75mm variant. Hope that helps clarify:)
Here's a list of the M3 variants in case your curious:) T12/M3 GMC: 75mm T12/M3A1 HMC: 75mm T12- USMC: 105mm T48- US Army: 57mm T30- US Army: 75mm T19- US Army: 105mm T19 MMC: 81mm M13 MGMC: .50 cal M16 MGMC: .50 cal T28E1: 37mm and .30 cal M15: 37mm and .50 cal M15A1: 37mm and .50 cal There are lend-lease vehicles too but I didn't add them:)
Damn, I even don’t have the M109 unlocked. I think. You play much more ground forces them me nowadays. I mostly hop into plane matches ^_^ But I also generally have the same BR planes in my line up :3
You realize it's a dual purpose vehicle, right? It's main role is mobile armored artillery but it is also employed as a "sniper" tank in an equal force scenario. This vehicle is being used as intended.
For the R3 it was very limited, the only real source I found with some reliability was en.topwar.ru/41170-broneavtomobili-oto-melara-gorgona.html other than that I couldn't find much else for this one:)
I was honestly expecting a history of it in war thunder itself. That thing used to be around 3.7 (might have been 3.3 on release but I don't think I was playing actively at that time or never looked at it). Used to be the most annoying thing ever since it would just drive by you and you couldn't do anything about it.
@MasterSquishies so the events are kind of grindy and you have to sink a lot of time in (or GE it) but basically for the AVRE you need to get 35,000 mission points across a 2 day period, but you have have to do this 6 times and then you get the vehicle. (If that makes sense I'm bad at explaining things 😅)
@MasterSquishies after doing those 6 marks of distinction you get the vehicle to keep permanently if you want to sell it you need to get the coupon which is like 600,000 mission points in total.
I love this silly looking thing. Really shows the teething problems of the early American tank destroyer doctrine. I love using it in Gates of Hell. Buuut, yeah, any other tank destroyer is better than it haha. The limited turret traverse is the main enemy
