War Thunder: History of the Tiger I 

It was a very intimidating tank for sure, but it also was highly destructive. I wouldn't want to face one in combat:)

Thank you for the comment, I think I found the confusion. Sd.Kfz or Sonderkraftfahrzeug which means special purpose vehicle was the ordnance inventory designation given to all German vehicles from 1933-1945. Panzerkampfwagen was given specifically to tanks as its own sub designation. While yes, they were used at the same time Sd.kfz often came before the vehicle was made and while it was in a design phase with the designation being changed later. After a prototype was made, in the case of a tank, it was given the name Panzerkampfwagen with a number and letter designation. The Tiger was named by Wa. Prüf. 6 (Waffen Prüfungsamt) in Febuary 1942 when they called it the project “Pz.Kpfw.VI (VK45.01/H) Ausf.H1 (Tiger)” with Porshe's suggestion. Before that, still in 1942, the Tiger was the Panzerkampfwagen VI P (Sd.Kfz.181) which was the Porche prototype and the Panzerkampfwagen VI H (Sd.Kfz.182) which was the Henshel prototype. The first production Tiger was the Panzerkampfwagen VI H1. It wasn't until 1943 that the Panzerkampfwagen VI would get the new designation Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf.E (Sd.Kfz.181) Tiger I with the new turret change as well and the still in development Tiger II would get the designation Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf.B (Sd.Kfz.182) Tiger II. So the Tiger designation goes: Panzerkampfwagen VI P (Sd.Kfz.181) August 1942 Panzerkampfwagen VI H (Sd.Kfz.182) August 1942 Panzerkampfwagen VI H1 (Sd.Kfz.182) in December 1942 Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf.E (Sd.Kfz.181) Tiger I in March 1943 Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf.B (Sd.Kfz.182) Tiger II in 1943 Hopefully this Helps clarify it a little:)
