What an awsome journey my brother yes the ancestors had your back the whole way,,I am also a Balantan descendant wishing to make that same journey one day
My father's mother is also a beautiful balanta woman. I need to go to this place to connect with the ancestors. I have to convince my father to take me and show me his mothers people that way they'll know I am her grandson. I wanna get deep into that culture. hopefully next year.
Balanta are not descendants of Hebrews. They migrated from Ta Seti (what is now Sudan) on the Nile Valley. The name of God in Balanta religion is Nghâle, not Yahweh.
@@tavaresoo1 you are correct brother. There are many Male age groups before finally going to Fanado. But abeneh (thank you), I will continue to make more so feel free to subscribe.
I recently took the African Ancestry test. Maternal lineage DNA has both Balanta and Mende. Thank you for sharing your experience. Please share suggestions for music, literature, clothing or anything else from the Balanta people. I'd love to learn more.
Received my African ancestry results as Balanta from Guinea Bissau as well. It's been a great source of pride for me. I just need to fire up my passport. I definitely need to visit West Africa, including GB.
Shandara Harris got mines back today from my mother's side it says that I am 100% Balanta from Guinea Bissau... I am so excited... I just don't have any idea how to trace my roots back to find out more information

This was a magical trip and connection. I went to Africa to connect with Balanta culture. I did not have a connection or a plan on how that was going to happen. I was on the internet on you tube and facebook looking for any connection to be made. This was super hard. It is not like there is a lot of english speaking resources on the Balanta. I understand why now. Th title those who resist or refuse doesn't come lightly. Thy refused to become a part of the status quo . It was very very hard because it helps a great deal if you speak portuguese. I came to a point to where I gave up trying to force it. I prayed and asked the ancestors if their child was to return back home that they needed to make a way. That very next day a friend of mine from Senegal was living in another big city called me. We had not talked for I want to say like a year. Just to catch up with me. I told him about my problems trying to connect. He told me as simple as this, " Get you a ticket and fly to Dakar and you will stay with my family. I have a brother who speaks some english. He will go with you to find Balanta people and stay with you for the whole trip." It was as simple as that, I booked a ticket for 2 months and off I went. I went by myself with no fear of the unknown because I knew my ancestors were with me and would guide me every step of the way. I traveled through Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea Bissau and met Balanta people everywhere on my journey. Of course the story is way more magical and much more adventurous than that. But, I will have to sit down and actually write it up. You wouldn't believe some of it when I tell you.
