Hi, Khaira😄. Your videos inspired me to continue my studies in the first year of optometry in 2024. I like your videos very much, keep it up! I am from Malaysia. I hope to learn different optometry knowledge from your videos. Thank you for everything you share.😍
All your resources for those modules will be provided by your uni in the library or online. Ask your lectures which one they recommend as each uni teaches differently
Hi! I just wanted to ask if you did the integrated master's degree in Optometry? I'm curious about what the 4th year involves and whether it makes a difference in your job prospects?
Hii nope I only doing bachelors as I’m not interested in doing any research in the future but 4th year includes clinical training/ placement at an opticians and research on a particular area. No difference at all, you have the same job as an optom, for masters if you do want to do specialised eye clinics in the hospital or do research or become a professor then masters would be good. But if you want to be an optom either in an optician or hospital then there’s no need for masters. However, lots of unis already include a masters so you might not have much choice
I am currently doing a career progression into MO optometry. And working in optics is a stark comparison to learning it some optometrist are pressured too do eye test very quickly as working in a company they need to make money the more patient you see the more money the company makes. As an optometrist the pressure isn’t as high as what DO face and optical assistant as they are forced to sell glasses as much as they can. Causing lots of politics between the optical directors. However all that aside optometry is sooo worth it the work life balance is very rare. You can open your own optician or joint venture. You can specials in more of a hospital clinic as well as domicilary. So that’s why I chose to stay. I just wanted to say so you are aware since they don’t tell you these things in optometry school.
this was def super informative!! Even tho I’m studying something completely different, it’s definitely motivating and there’s good advice to apply to any program 🤭
Love you videos Khiara! I’m not an Optom student, but an Occupational Therapist student so this video was interesting and refreshing to listen to!! Can’t wait for more of your uni vlogs 🥰
Hey girl your videos are so helpful! I’m thinking of studying Optometry and I was wondering what are the lectures like? Is it everyday lectures or are they online? And how often do you have clinic?
Thank you! I do have a first year optom experience video on my channel which you could look at. Lectures are around 3-4x a week. They are in person and we have clinic 2-3x first year and more in second and third year :)
Yes definitely, I’d say every job is quite repetitive in its own way. Having a passion for your chosen career is what makes you enjoy your job the most. I find that for me, there are some challenges along the way but optometry is purposeful and very rewarding.
Hey, I’m starting optometry in September and I’ve watched your videos on anki. Please could you do a full video on how best to revise, how to make notes, and just all things revision because I have no idea what to do or what to expect😭. There was a big difference between studying for GCSES and A levels so I’m expecting there to be another one for uni. So getting a head start would be cool. Please could you also give us your main tips/advice for uni in general ?
There’s alot to learn about the eyes more than what you would expect! I love investigating eye health, interacting with new people. I find it intellectually challenging too yet interesting. Optometrists have such a rewarding job! 🤩 I don’t share the uni I go to on here
really motivating and im glad i came across you with my research on optometry!! think ill stay up to date with your content, thank u for everything and i hope u keep goingg, ur doing amazinng!!
Thankyou so much for making this, it was really helpful. I was just wondering if you had to fully register with the GOC before you started the degree or if that registration was completed once the course began?
I didn’t know anything about the GOC before going into first year. They will show you how to get into it and get an account. There will be yearly charges of £30! Thank you all the best ☺️
Hey! I have an optom q and a video on my channel which answers this questions and more. There is a large workload however if you balance your time well you can implement free time.
I am interested in becoming an optometrist just finished my gcses. This video was very insightful but i just have a few questions. How much does a optometrist earn? And how much is the workload in uni? And what do u need to get in ur a-levels? btw u look stunning girl💕💕💕💕💕
Yes of course! I have a dedicated optometry Qand A video on my channel. Entry level positions start at £42,948 per year while most experienced workers make up to £65,000 per year. Workload is there, you need to love optom to get through it all. AAB or ABB most unis go for. Thank you all the best for your future! :D
amen God and Jesus bless you, God and Jesus love you and God and Jesus are good, may God and Jesus forgive us for our sins and wake us all up tomorrow and thanks you god and Jesus for waking us up today. Thankyou Heavenly Father and Jesus amen !! ❤️
Thank you!! We do up to 11 exams in the last semester but that can vary. It is similar to alevels or even harder as we don’t get markscheme to exam questions. Exams are written and practical. Hope this helps!!
@@khiaraisabelle Thank youu! would you say it is more biology based because I’ve come to really dislike biology a level 😭 i’ve almost finished all my exams but i’m worried i might fall behind or even not get the grades for cardiff, so i am preparing myself to do a foundation year 😭
@@ak-np1vu Me too, these exams are stressing me out and I'm not sure if I can get in, especially after doing the exams. Hoping the foundation year is available through clearing !!
@@ak-np1vu Hi so I would say it is quite biology based because there is alot to learn about the anatomy of the eyes and in first year you have to learn about cells, bones and systems of the body. Second year has taught me a lot of neuroscience too. It is alot to take in, as long as you can get over that barrier of biology (which is definetely possible) you should be fine. All the best!
Hii i love your videos iam a first year optometry student i was so sad when i couldn't qualify my entrance test for MBBS ,,optometry was on my second choice but i was not sure however after watching your vlogs i felt motivated .Thankyou !💖.😊
Yes of course! I started at the start of February, I feel like doing it in uni is quite flexible, find a good instructor and take lessons each week. Once you passed your theory book your driving test ahead of time 3 months which is usually when you can book it. Because I’m in uni I had no other car to practise in other than my instructors car so expect a lot of hours and make sure you have the budget for it. RU-vid videos helped me so much!! Find a good instructor that gives constructive lessons rather than those that just let you drive if you know what I mean. Prep for those lessons and don’t be discouraged if instructors become harsh on you they just want to push you to improve. Take more lessons closer to the test day like 3x per week! Being nervous when starting out is normal but very soon once you get the hang of it you’ll actually enjoy it! I prefer doing it during uni because I felt like uni summer is too short to learn in my opinion. Most students start at the beginning of the year when they come from Xmas break and take their test in the summer.
