Hello there! Just ordered a pair of these iturri in Ukraine from local reseller for around 40$ (sic!). Going to use it on winter combat compaign. Are they gonna be not to hot for +5 temp? We have crazy winters especially in februrary, where you can have +2 in day and -18 in night with full of mud and water in trenches. I always have my rubber boots for extreme water-slicky stuff, but unfortunately i cant have two pairs of boots, like insulated one and another with just goretex, cuz we can carry only 40l backpacks (i using british virtus daysack actually) cuz of shitty logistics and rules of this war. There is situations where you need to get to position for 20km by your foots under the UAVs and artilery strikes and sit in shit for week or more. So we need to be very minimalistic in case of what we are cariing)) I prefer to pack myself with more ammo, more mavic batteries and grenades rather aditional boots or coats. So if there will be middle spring for instance like +5 + 10 degrees? i will feel damn hot in them even in coolmax socks? Or i can feel ok until i get to post to recieve my goretex boots without insulation, my current model is lowa breacher if somebody interested)) Tested in this war and felt great! But too damn cold from -10 degrees((

The metal frame you mentioned is called an H-frame and the loops on the top sides of the pack slides over the frame, it was mainly used by the infantry troops as it could easily be dumped on the ground when under fire, just snap the waist buckle loose and down she goes "the frame also protected the pack that way" The two straps you thought was for a sleeping pad is actually used as a pull method, as those packs with the frame could get real heavy on long matches the straps was used to pull the pack back up to a higher position on the back. I still have mine, frame and all. Cant really have a battle jacket on and the backpack at the same time as the jacket had packs on the back for storage as well "it was one or the other" We mostly used the 1lt water bottles (times 2) and the nesting cup they slid into in two of the pockets, a double dixie eating set in one of the pockets "very rarely the 2 LT bottle was used" the other pocket we put what ever was deemed necessary to get at fast, normally snacks. As mentioned below we also did not use the chest webbing as in at all.

Hello, many thanks for your comments, yes sizing can always be a bit hit and miss, I am a UK 9 w and I have found all the Iturri boots fit me ok in that size, I do find that issues like swopping out the insoles or even an extra thick pair of socks can change how they fit. I guess it is always best to be slightly on the large size because socks etc can help make up the difference, a boot that is to small is always going to be a pain. As always if possible buy from a surplus shop that you can visit because then even walking around the shop can help you decide Take care out there

I have a pair of m59's, all leather version in black, manufactured in 1983 by Tretorn. I've used them every winter for over 20 years and they are still completely waterproof. They have seen some rough times as work boots in construction sites and dock work too. They have outlived probably ten pairs of commercial work boots and almost as many "city boots". I wear the m59's with a felt insole and two pairs of socks. The outer sock is a thick, knitted wool sock. These socks are quite long, so you fold the upper part down and that gives you an extra layer to fill out the shaft of the boot. I haven't had any trouble with blisters in these, but I rarely do in any shoes. They are heavy cumbersome things, but they keep your feet warm and dry. The quality is outstanding and you would have to pay 300€ to get something even close to this. The outer sole gets pretty hard in sub-zero temperatures, and unfortunately the boots gets slippery on hard packed snow. The soles are thick enough to accomodate hobnails but I have these metal thingies you strap to the boots to give grip on snow and ice. These boots are not something I wear every day, but we get a few weeks to a few months of really cold winter here and these boots haven't failed me once.

Was issued one of those. Hated it LOL. I think you should try to get the frame though, in all my time I never saw it used without the frame and can imagine loaded up it would be monstrously uncomfortable As a point of interest. On long route-marches we'd place the Battle-Jacket under the top flap with the BJ shoulder straps hooked around the uppermost water-bottle pouches and carry it like that. Never used the chest webbing. Ever. Not once. Oddly enough, the Chest Webbing was the most redundant piece of kit we had and I was in an Airborne unit so not a REMF or QITR. I guess the Chest Webbing came in handy for guys that spent a lot of time in vehicles, which we didn't. Hello yes you are correct, also there is the chest rig that makes the complete system, I purchased the Rucksack in Pretoria, they had the frame but was not easy for me to bring back to the UK on the aircraft so gave it a miss take care out there

Hey you can still find the packs and the H-frame at SAMS (South African Military Surplus) in Randburg "you have to do delivery costs separately though so i would suggest phoning them after you place the order for that or just do In store pickup" they are obviously not new. The site at times doesn't have them listed so well so just search for h-frame, the packs are normally under the used Sandf section. hope that helps. Oh and battle jackets is there also.

Thanks again, also I would appreciate if you take a look at the SADF Boots video ?? I have posted I purchased these also in Pretoria and I see the company that makes them Dick Whittington boot company who say they are a SADF supplier but seems to be a difference of opinions if these are actual SADF boots ?? interested in your thoughts Take care out there

I’ve had mine for 7-8 years apart from my Bergen it’s the best bag I’ve ever owned I use it daily for everything when out shopping sometimes I over do it and buy to much and think ohh crap how am I going to fit all this in but it always does it’s like a Mary poppings bag.. never let me down when empty it looks so small but when full it seems to grow double its size.. I keep my waterproofs in the bottom pouch all year round so I’m never caught short.. love it

Yes you are right it is a great rucksack I still use mine for shopping, the only reason I have changed is the problem I had with the strap slippage, short of swapping out the shoulder straps which I did not think worth the effort then other methods did not seem to work plus with age the lining inside etc were breaking down. I hope you have many years left in yours Take care out there

Hi is it comfortable to use it in summer at 40 Celsius?
@ontherunplmr1218
@ontherunplmr1218 4 месяца назад
well I have never used them in that sort of Temperature because I switch over to a Desert boot when I visit the Middle East. I think they would be very hot given that they are a full leather boot with no ventilation holes etc like a Desert Boot. Also I guess how long you would want to use them in those sort of temperatures ? Overall I think you would be better with something a bit lighter Take care out there

I had the same issue on my German Army boots , were in storage for a few years
@ontherunplmr1218
@ontherunplmr1218 4 месяца назад
Yes could be the same problem ? the issue with the early German Boots from the 2000 model was that the midsole cushion was exposed to the elements and over time with moisture in the mid sole plus storage caused the delamination problems. I now understand that the outsole is PU not EVA and over time we see this breakdown Does not seem to happen so much if the boots are actually used which seems a little strange Take care out there

This pair of boots is very negative in the British army because the sole is PU and it will be hydrolysis.
