Hi. I’m still looking for answers as to how recording works on this device. When pressing record on the screen it doesn’t activate the camera and seems to only take a screen recording of whatever is displaying on the phone. There doesn’t seem to be a true recording option of what is being captured on the camera to be saved to the phone
Hi Jah, thanks for reaching out. You might need to first configure your camera to accept trigger recording over HDMI. Please send an email with a brief description of your issue to james.weatherby@atomos.com and we'll replicate the situation and try to give a solution asap.
Hey Krookie, it's definitley something at the top of our list to bring as soon as we can. Our engineers are currently working on this, we appreciate your patience, Atomos
A warning for Canon users: camera control will NOT work on the c70 OR any other C series camera. This was not stated on the product page. I had to go through a ream of emails with support before they admitted this. I’ll be returning my Shinobi II unfortunately because of this. Huge disappointment. Use Portkeys instead if you’ve got a Canon camera.

Great feature, with atomos known quality. However, I wish I could see, on my phone, comments placed on the social media that I’m livestreaming to, so I could answer to them. Otherwise, as iphone cameras (and other phones) are getting better and better, it’s just simpler to use apps like PRIMS Live and Streamlabs.
Image overlay / onion skin with save / load screenshot to the SD card would have me interested. (That and a 7” version.) Currently using Monitor+ and looking at Accssoon or this as my first monitor.
Hi Peter, thanks for this feedback. Please note that onion skin is available currently in our AtomOS11 monitor-recorder products like Ninja and Shogun and we didn't include it in Shinobi II as it is a monitor only with no recording. It's definitley something capable of via something as like you say, uploading an image via the SD card slot. We'll pass the feedback to our Shinobi team! Thanks again Peter, Atomos
Matching a shot for products with saved image overlays is part of the purpose of a monitor for me. With the Sony camera control, power to camera and screen brightness, this would make the Shinobi II the choice for me over Portkeys (looks like on paper the best option now), Accssoon (no camera control) and Monitor+ (low resolution Live View feed and limited image overlay). Thanks for you reply.
@@peterwood1066 Hey Peter, we appreciate your response, onion skin overlay is definitely something we can implement and we'll hopefully be putting into a firmware asap.
Hi Gregor, The USD 399 is due to the 10-bit HDR piepeline we're implementing. Currently no other product can take 10-bit HDR to the 10-bit screen of the phone, if you want a 4K/8K RAW recorder monitor, then go for the Atomos Ninja. Ninja Phone is a cool tool to see HDR and stream it to other phones with HDR. You can also add pro audio and send it with the HDR. Thanks again and we are definitely listening to your feedback, Atomos
Hey Nat, Thanks for this suggestion, there is definitely a way - we are well known for our solid recording to SSD and HDD, so can work to bring this expertise and knowledge to our new Ninja Phone. Thanks for the feedback, we've definitely been hearing this request, note that it's been passed directly to our Ninja Phone team. Cheers, Atomos
Just got back from Atomos support email that they don’t support the R5C and is why it’s not working with mine? Yet you’re using it as a demo in this video? Disappointed in the false advertisement
Hi Gus, Thankyou for your comment. We apologise for any confusion. Please note that we're currently testing with R5C and hope to implement an update to firmware asap as we understand there have been reported bugs with R5C, we're in communication with Canon to get this fixed as there might be some more information required from the camera to ammend the bugs. Thanks for reporting this, it's so useful to get accurate bug reports from our users so we can replicate them internally. Cheers, Atomos
You guys should make one like that for iPad mini, iPads, & other tablets; or a longer claw where the user can just unscrew the current one and replace it with another one.
Hey Janis, Yes! The USB C also supplies power - you might need to configure your camera to accept PD over USB in the camera menus first. Cheers, Atomos
Hey Daily, Thanks for your comment. If RAW modes and/or 4K/8K monitoring/recording is your need, we definitely still encourage you to go for our Ninja or Shogun lines. Ninja Phone is a cool tool to see HDR and stream it to other phones with HDR. You can also add pro audio and send it with the HDR. No other product can take 10-bit HDR to the 10-bit screen of the phone. We encourage you to check it out! It allows filmmakers to stay in the world of their phones and phone workflows but opens them to larger and higher end sensors over HDMI with any glass they like, not just the small phone sensor and glass range. And now that almost all viewers consume media on their phones, it allows filmmakers to monitor on the same screen their customers will consume their media on. Cheers, Atomos
Sorry guys but that stupid thing is not worthy and $399 is too much money to use with a iPhone or Android, cell phones with a tiny sensors you will never get a high quality. Real cameras do that not funny phones. Don't hurt the industry with that, trying to make money with the rookie creators making them think they're going to look professional using that crap.
Hey Joe, We appreciate thew feedback. Please note Ninja Phone does NOT use the small sensors from the iPhone's cameras but instead allows you to connect, monitor and record from high end mirrorless and cinema cameras via HDMI, opening content creators up to amazing images while still maintaining the phone workflows they are used to. No other product can take 10-bit HDR to the 10-bit screen of the phone. Ninja Phone is a cool tool to see HDR and stream it to other phones with HDR. You can also add pro audio and send it with the HDR.
Hey Shadow, yes, it can definitely record Log and HDR up to 10-bit, equating to billions of colours and shadows, not millions in SDR. Hope that helps, Atomos
I found too expensive for the quality offering, overpriced. When they themselves know that with such small sensors on an iPhone you will never get a worthy quality image. I give it a 👎👎👎

Hey there, Ninja Phone is 1080p intended for social media outputs and monitoring. If 8K RAW functionality is what you require, we encourage you check out our Ninja and Shogun lines at atomos.com. Cheers, Atomos
does it downsample from 4k signal from the camera to 1080p prores or it has to be 1080p signal from the camera for it to work? Will you have 4k option in the future?
Hey Andy, Ninja Phone currently requires a 1080p source. Please note we are currently working on a 4K ninja Phone as we speak. The 1080p version was designed for social media and content creators first - allowing them to utilise high end mirrorless or cinema cameras but to remain within a mobile phone workflow that they are used, where 1080p is the standard for most social media use-cases. Our team is closely working on a 4K version which is a more intensive process but one that we have listened to our customer's feedback on. Thanks again and we are definitely listening to your feedback, Atomos
@@andytanvu Thanks Andy, correct. It's just a slightly different and more complex pathway required with some different processing needed inside the module itself. We are definitely working on a 4K version though, and will be updating our customers on this on our social so please stay tuned! Cheers, Atomos
Hey take one, Please note that the bootup time is around 7-8 seconds, we appreciate your concern and will pass the feedback to our Shinobi II team. Thanks, Atomos
Hi Auxlife, Yes! Streaming through Ninja Phone is completely free. We're in the process of creating some guides on livestreaming with Ninja Phone which will be released in the coming days/weeks. Thanks for reaching out, Atomos
Hi KPRTravelJourney, Thanks for your comment. We definitley have not lost our creativity, we have a rejuvenated energy at Atomos and have a suite of awesome products and new features we are working on. We also maintain our ongoing deep relationships with the major camera manufacturers to ensure our products are connected with their workflows and pipelines so they work harmoniously together. We believe Ninja Phone is an HDR revolution! Ninja Phone uses Apple's crazy screen to see all the wonderful sensor detail in 10-bit brightness and colour, Billions of shadows, not millions, as in SDR 8-bit (the competition). HDR is the future and its here now for your phone! You can also add pro Audio via USB C. We are listening to your feedback and appreciate you reaching out, Cheers, Atomos.
I’m having issues on my R5C. The camera control via usb c was set up identically to how they did it with the R5C in the video but my control icons are showing F1 for aperture and 5200 for kelvin and all others are blank. None of them can be changed to anything. What am I doing wrong? Also the PD is not powering the camera unless the camera is off
Thanks for this feedback Mach10Media, We understand this concern. We recommend users or production companies purchase a dedicated iPhone for Ninja Phone. For users who might not need a dedicated phone, we recommend flicking over to do not disturb when in use. We appreciate that customers might need some more information on this so will consider creating some video materials helping explain this process. Thanks for your support.
Hey JW, We're sorry you're experiencing this inconvenience and appreciate your feedback in the early stages of a product's life. Please submit a support ticket here ASAP for our team to investigate, replicate and get back to you with some solutions: support.atomos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=264627 Cheers, Atomos

Hi CScean, Thankyou for this feedback, we really appreciate it. We are very much listening and will begin working on this, hopefully adding it to an upcoming future firmware.
1:35 - I feel like this cable is gonna break instantly with the that angle. A flat one with a 90° angle to the back with a way shorter plug would have been the better choice here
Hi Soundwave, Thanks for this comment. We are definitely listening to your feedback. We hope to continuously update the locking cable lines and this feedback is appreciated. Cheers, Atomos
Please bring out some kind of adapter / module that can add control functionality to the older models of recorder monitors! I’m well and truly in with my ninja V+ and connect module. Moving to shinobi isn’t an option.
Hi David, Thanks for reaching out! We definitely hope to bring the camera control protocol to our Ninja and Shogun lines. We're currently testing this and working out the most effcicient way to do so. We appreciate your patience, Atomos
Hey Dis, Yes, definitley! We are currently working to bring Nikon, Fujifilm and more camera brands into our camera control ecosystem and will be updating everyone from our socials when we have firmware updates implementing any new cameras for camera control. Thanks and stay tuned to our socials for more info, Atomos
Hey Chips, Thanks for the question, the answer is yes! Camera Control is definitely on the roadmap for Ninja Phone, and we're working on it ASAP. Our products are definitely capable of camera control from, all the major camera manufacturers such as our brand new Shinobi II we just released. We'll be updating all major firmware releases for Ninja Phone on our socials and website so please stay tuned for more info. Thanks, Atomos
Hi MrG, Yes! Ninja Phone will work perfectly with the Sony FS5 MkII :) We recommend sending HLG out of the camera to capture the most out of the 10-bit HDR signal which can then be used for SDR or HDR workflows in post. We'll be making some more educational videos on these processes in the coming weeks. Thanks for the comment, Atomos

@@AtomosChannel Well you can see how many people complain about the price! It's ridiculous. As maker you think it can be revolutionary with this and that feature but still if it's overpriced then less people buy it. Maybe it's your way to sell ninja monitor. It's price over performance guys. Instead of selling 1-2 unit for just 2 customers, bring it down to sell to 10 of them and get people love your brand not hate it.
@@nguyenbui90 Thanks Nguyen, We appreciate the feedback, the 10-bit process is currently quite expensive to put into a product at the moment, and Ninja Phone the only product offering this high-quality production video - competitor products with 8-bit are underutilizing the amazing screens of the iPhone 15 Pros and Pro maxs. We are working to bring down the cost of our products all the time, and appreciate the need for good video gear to be affordable. Democratizing good video production is at the core of our company and we hope to continue this through Ninja Phone in it's future iterations where we can. If you're happy with the 8-bit SDR process of the competition, go for those products - 10-bit is a much higher quality output to offer your viewers and customers. Cheers, Atomos
@@zenphotocraftmedia8326 Hi Zen, Yes! We are currently working on the android version for Ninja Phone. Currently on Ninja Phone you can stream directly to your favourite social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, RU-vid Live, Facebook Live and any RTMP. This is completely free to do via Atomos Cloud Studio and we encourage you to check it our for yourself! , we are at this moment putting the final touches on the cut of the tutorial video and hope it can be released extremely soon. the new Shinobi II is 350$ with 4k and a nice screen. What is the purpose of this overpriced gimmick? maybe the livestream? the Acsoon 4k does way more for less than half the cost.
Hi No Good Necktie, Thanks for your comment. Shinobi II is a monitor designed for working filmmakers and photographers who want a higher end and bigger monitor than their LCD screens on their cameras provide, and to monitor in confidence with the suite of AtomOS tools and camera controls. Ninja Phone is instead a tool to allow content creators and filmmakers to stay in the world of their phones for production workflows for social media but easily utilize bigger and better sensors than phones have through connecting a mirrorless or cinema camera via HDMI. Ninja Phone uses Apple's crazy screen to see all the wonderful sensor detail in 10-bit brightness and colour, Billions of shadows, not millions, as in SDR 8-bit (the competition). HDR is the future and its here now for your phone! Please comment below if you have any other feedback or suggestions, we are definitely listening. Cheers, Atomos.
So, you did heard about this movie. Maybe add some usability to anamorphic mode? For now it's totally rubbish. It's impossible to work with anamorphic lenses. Just crop source and fill image to the screen... Is it too much to ask? Maybe if you can't figure it out - try to ask ChatGPT for help. There is no shame in that...
Hi Josh Marra, Please know that our team is closely working on a 4K version which is a more intensive process but one that we have listened to our customer's feedback on. Hey Zao, We appreciate your feedback - The reason for the price is due to the 10-bit pipeline we are utilizing for HDR recording and monitoring which is a complex procedure but we did this in order for filmmakers and content-creators to monitor and record their footage on the high-end screens of Apple and other smartphone company's displays. No other product can take 10-bit HDR to the 10-bit screen of the phone; you are wasting the screen capability; if you want a full-blown 4K 8K recorder monitor, then go for the Atomos Ninja. This is a such a cool tool to see HDR and stream it to other phones with HDR. You can also add pro audio and send it with the HDR. Thanks again and we are definitely listening to your feedback, Atomos
