I spend my life focusing on how I can get to what matters and ultimately what matters to me most is my family. How do I get there? By working every single day to be the best I can be in all aspects of my life. I am continuously looking fo new way to improve both my physical health and mental health through setting goals. Running has become my main focus but overall fitness including endurance training and strength training helps me be a more well rounded athlete

I bought this shoe cause I work in a hospital and got planatar fasciitis. So far this shoe has been really comfortable and is helping my pain go away. Trying to find pther shoes that can help. Do you have any suggestions about shoes with a similar feel? Maybe I'll try sacouny.

I over pronate and I’ve had a history of various pains in my feet, ankles and knees. This shoe shouldn’t work for me, but it does like nothing else. I ran in it for a couple months before starting 1/2 marathon training and now I’m 6 weeks into training. All other shoes have fallen out of my rotation because nothing feels or performs this good. And it has protected my feet and my joints like no other. I’d like another shoe to pair with it, but currently I just can’t bring myself to run in anything else.

It’s such an interesting shoe. You would think a tall stack height of squishy foam and a knit upper might really cause problems for someone who over pronates but it seems to work for a lot of people. Definitely not a stability shoe but just seems to keep me moving forward

Could you compare the Saucony Ride 17 to the New Balance 860v14? Don't worry about the 860 being classified as a mild stability shoe. It actually runs like a really good neutral daily trainer which happens to have excellent stability. These 2 shoes are 2 of the best extremely versatile running shoes. There is also a new Saucony Ride TR2 GTX which is a road to trail shoe based on the Ride 17 that I wish someone would review online. Sometimes when they add goretex waterproof upper, the fit becomes tighter and you need to size up a half size.
@iakona23
@iakona23 7 дней назад
The difference between the Ride 17 and the Triumph 20 is that the fit is a little more roomy in the Ride 17 (which I like) and there is a little less stack height which means that it doesn't feel quite as bouncy and energetic. But it does feel more stable in the heel, which is why I prefer the Ride 17 over the Triumph 20. It feels more stable. I would pay $140 for the Ride 17 rather than pay less money for a discounted Triumph 20-21 online.

I can see the Rebellion Pro V2 working really well later in runs when you get tired and the form breaks down. Most of us will start to drag the outer heel causing a mini braking effect. But that beveled heel should help with that, assuming you are still able to mostly midfoot strike. If you go full heel strike, all bets are off, and I suspect you'd be fighting the shoe constantly. As for the training, I tend to shy away from true speed work, since it seems to cause me issues. So we instead work on extending Time To Exhaustion. Basically how long you can hold 10k pace. It seems to provide a decent speed performance stimulus while still working on endurance, with much less risk.
@WhatMatterstoMatt
@WhatMatterstoMatt 12 дней назад
You are right about the rebellion pro 2. There were times when I felt myself trying to run to aggressive and getting too far onto my toes. As soon as I calmed down, relaxed and ran mid foot you could feel I was getting more help from the shoe. Love the thought process on training. Navigating what works best to keep yourself healthy and consistent goes so much further than running some “hero” paces in training

I had looked at this shoe, and was considering it, but then the Superblast V2 became available. And for me, and my current shoe rotation, the Superblast V2 was a no-brainer. I missed out on the Superblast V1. But after great success in the Novablast V1 and V3, I assumed it would work well for me. 2 runs in (16k, 21k pure LSD) and it's so far exactly what I was looking for. Big test will be tomorrow where I have a series of longer efforts at MP/HMP. Look forward to your updates on the shoe and your training!

@@WhatMatterstoMatt Superblast V2 are great up to half, faster than that, they feel like too much shoe. Kinda how I view the Alphafly V3. I get the impression the Superblast V1 had more top end, but I can see how the V2 is a much better longer distance shoe.

I was ready to buy this shoe until I noticed the sides of my forefoot would hang over the midsole. Did you have the save experience? Do you like this shoe better than Saucony Speed 4?
@WhatMatterstoMatt
@WhatMatterstoMatt 14 дней назад
Interesting about your forefoot hanging over the midsole. That’s not something I noticed but I would say I have a slightly lower volume foot so I don’t generally have a problem with shoes being too narrow. I’ve only had the chance to do a 5km shakeout run a few weeks ago with the speed 4 so it’s hard to say for sure. The speed 4 feels like you have less shoe on foot (lighter) which makes it seem to have quicker turnover, more agile and probably a shoe almost anyone can get along with. Neo vista offers more protection, is a ton of fun for those steady runs and offers a unique ride. If I had to choose and I was looking for a daily trainer that would handle the bulk of my mileage I’m probably leaning to the speed 4. Some of that might have to do with all the miles I have in the speed 1,2 and 3 though. Sorry if that’s not a clear answer, hopefully I get some more miles in the speed 4 soon

10k is a rough distance, I still struggle to get it right. 5k even more so...I love the Half, it's just long enough enough that I have to respect the distance and I know I have to run the first 15-16k sub threshold. You definitely have a faster 10k in you, but given everything going on leading into that race you did great! Can't wait for your marathon training content coming up!

My favourite shoe ever... Would you suggest the 21's or 22's as a replacement? Sounds like they're quite different. I can't seem to source 20's anymore in Aus. About to try Ride 17, but had to return the first pair because fit was sooooo much bigger... Slipping out and felt awful. Trying half size smaller.
@WhatMatterstoMatt
@WhatMatterstoMatt 18 дней назад
I’ve put a little over 400 miles into a pair of ride 17’s. It has been a pretty good shoe. On paper it looks like a replacement for the triumph 20/21 but it does ride a little different. It’s a bit more stable than the triumph 20 (it’s wider, there’s less drop and feels like the foam is a bit firmer). Those are all good things if you wanted something slightly more stable but the trade off is maybe a bit less energy return/fun factor. Triumph 21 is practically the same shoe to the 20 but with small tweaks to the upper. I have not run in the triumph 22 but practically every review seemed to think the 22 was more of an easy day shoe (a little more protective but less versatile). If you are looking for a direct replacement grab the triumph 21. If you are looking for a slightly more stable/slightly less squishy shoe daily trainer grab the ride. If you are looking for more of an easy day shoe grab the triumph 22. All great shoes, can’t go wrong.

@@WhatMatterstoMatt Great thoughts here thank you! I've got the Ride's coming, sounds like they're a good all-rounder. But could add the 21's or 22's into the mix. Appreciate the help

It’s a frog, of course. It has frog legs. While on vacation, I make sure to get my runs in extra early as to not disrupt the family plans, but giving up running while on vacation would be a mistake, as you’d miss the opportunity for new scenery, climate and cultures in a different way.

Oh man... I wish I could have seen your video before I bought the shoe. Same experience here, it feels comfortable when walking but when running, the forefoot area suddenly becomes hard and I don't feel the plushiness or response at all. I'm doing an easy run at 6.5 minutes per Km which I think the shoe is designed for but I don't feel comfortable at all. I wish I could have gone for the NB more V4 or Nike Invincible 3. Great review by the way.

What sort of battery is installed in the control pod - is it li-ion or NiCad or what? Can the battery be replaced? Can spare control pods be purchased? I ask this because it seems such a waste of the whole thing has to be scrapped due to a failing battery.
