No video can replace the teachings and wisdom of your Sensei. The videos are intended for reference only. They are not for self-teaching purpose. Constructive criticisms and comments are welcome.
Warning: Should you decide to self-teach anyways, PLEASE practice safely. Use a Bokuto or a proper Iaito. Never use sharp swords or cheap imitation swords. You are at risk of serious bodily injury, including amputation and death.
Do find a reputable Dojo to practice Iaido. Hoping these videos may serve you as reference and insight. Here is the link to the Dojo where I practice: www.shidokanmontreal.ca/
Will try to upload the whole thing. Meanwhile, here are the links to Haruna Sensei's Embu: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-09kUvanks2s.html, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8UBIWa6lC0U.html
Starting at 1:35 they are not doing a variant of Yukichigai. They are practicing the kata Ryoshi Hikitsure. One of the kata that Oe Sensei dropped in his reorganization of MJER. A “forgotten” kata. Nice find.
Time is the only neutral force that in undefeatable. In this modern age where wars can be fought with machines and everything is on such a grand scale, There's a beauty to watching a samurai losing to time, but with confidence in his eyes and an excellent form. Respect. I'll see you all in the afterlife.
Thank you very much for uploading this content, it is very interesting to listen to different sensei from the past decades, and to see the differences with ZNKR iaido today. Excuse me if I make a request, in the last second of this video an image appears on a blackboard, where you can see the angle of the edge at the time of the cut, I imagine that he is explaining about the nukitsuke. Do you have the rest of the video? If so, could you upload it so I can see it? Of course, I understand that not all information is public, if this content is private, I beg your pardon, I really like to study from all possible sources. Once again, thanks for uploading this content.
Hi, Yes indeed very intersting to see the differences and evolution. The blackboard portion is about 5 seconds and is about the angle of the blade at the end of Nukitsuke. Haruna Sensei points to the top one (flat) and says <no good>. Then points to the bottom one (edge slightly angled downward) and says <good>.
