I've always thought "losing holes" is a bad way to assess who is slow. You often find a group holds you up for a few holes, but then they suddenly play three holes in rapid time and drop you - which is when the referee / marshal happens to turn up... You can't let refs affect you though. I let poor officiating (and it was often incredibly poor) affect me when I used to play competitive sport and it wasn't helpful. Just ignore them and do your thing, and if you get a shot penalty so be it. Then get your game to a state where if you do get a random 1-shot penalty you still achieve the score you want.
I got fucked by the ref to I was -2 after 10 mistake free. Look at my card Aiden Hooson next thing I know on the clock I shoot 75 couldn’t have been any worse nightmare for me
Maybe stick to the RU-vid content. Shooting 76 and being 11 back of the leader isn’t going to cut it, especially when this was only regional. Be surprised if 2 or 3 players from the 100 that qualify at regional get through final stage. The standard is just way too good from where you and most of the other lads are at.
Josh Oddy, I caddied for a guy who should have been on tour and did a lot of spotting for ABC TV. You actually did quite well. What I have noticed when caddying in better more important tournaments is that the course set ups are totally different to lesser events and your home course. The grass in fairways and around the greens are much tighter so when you are chipping you have a certain amount of doubt how the ball will react on contact and if you have been playing stimp 8 greens and you are playing to a stimp 13 green you are guessing at best how the ball run out and this all leads to doubt. That then puts pressure on your approach play and driving because you feel you need to b e in the fairway and you feel you need to hit it close so you are not chipping and making long lag puts on a green that just feels totally different speed wise. My friend did not make it on tour despite being good enough , looking back I can see why. He did not practice on representative conditions and was giving away at least 2 to 3 shots and maybe more off his potential score before he even teed it up. Had he had a period of adjustment practicing on representative conditions for a few weeks I am sure he would have been on tour. You have to practice with like with like to have any real chance and if you don't do that you are just not going to be able to play to your scoring potential and are just managing the situation as best you can. I would be very interested if you did a video on this with Brandon as he seems to get round this but he is playing in higher quality events more often where the tricked up tournament conditions are the norm. The problem is finding a place where you can practice where the greens are stimp 13 and surrounded by tournament rough. I talked to tour player and European Tour winner Mark Davis about this while recovering from wrist surgery, he said he felt he would need 8 back to back tournaments on tour to get to the standard where he felt he could play his best and compete. That shocked me. You actually did well and I fully understand that you don't need RU-vid judgement going on in your head when in a tournament that counts. The bottom line is if you are not practicing in representative conditions in a build up to an important tournament I just don't see how you can realistically have high expectations and on the face of it your round was pretty good. To have a chance you need to give yourself a chance and your build up gave you no chance, but you can learn and tournament golf is a different animal from RU-vid golf, but you know that anyway and you needed this tournament to break the ice and relearn what you knew already. .
Yeah just a bit of common sense from the refs is needed, If you're not holding anyone up then you should be able to take as long as you want until you start holding groups up. Fair play for this was a good breakdown.
Are they better than the p790s? Thinking about getting fit for new irons and looking at the p790s but after your review of the Avodas I’m sold but more interested in the one lengths. Everyone needs to relax on the slow play, golf is meant to be a slower game to enjoy with your mates, maybe courses should space tee times out and not overbook courses. There are exceptions with slow players who take three practice swings then hit but as a majority most people are pretty good. Pro events where no one is being held up should t be put on the clock. Disagree. Avg golfer needs to play much more quickly. Most people aren't aware just how slowly they are playing. But I completely agree the ref was out of line here.
@@DavidDavid-jb1cy Slow play is the bane of most golfers , takes up enough time as it iis , travelling warming up etc, last thing you need is waiting on every hole because of groups like cambellgreys group, 5+ hr rounds is to long.
The people who rinse others that are putting themselves out there and trying.. are normally the same people who can't break 90 😂. So well done josh for being open honest and taking us on your journey. Keep at it 👍

We had a very similar one at Caldy yesterday. Somebody in our group went left on 12, across the 13th fairway, he got across before the group infront teed off on 13, the spotters and ref wouldn't let us cross the fairway to help him locate his ball as people were teeing off. By the time we got across to help, the ref calls "time" which is a joke in itself. Then, just for insult, "if that happens again I will put you all on the clock." Not like we weren't waiting for every single shot on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. Non golfers mate. Pathetic!
@joshoddy Oh mate, tell me about it. A little bit of common sense sometimes is alls that's needed. The lad who I was with, took it very well but I was absolutely livid on his behalf! They implement a 3 minute rule to speed up the game and then crucify you for using it. Also, we were second last group out, game number 43, why not address the groups in the middle of the day that actually caused the issues because somebody genuinely was slow somewhere down the line. It took nearly 6 hours to get round!
I’ve gotta be honest, it’s on you if you are behind. Granted you’re behind a two ball but they will be held up by whatever is in front of them, so I don’t think you can use that as an argument. I don’t exactly think the rules are too onerous on these rules. At the end of the day, people replicate what they see and if they watch pros taking 5 hours to play a round, they’re going to think it’s acceptable too. Think it’s pretty poor that you are laying in to people who have given you a warning prior to enforcing the reasonable rules.
Have you listened to the video? The only reason we were behind was because of the call up hole at the start! Also had a ball search on hole previous these things happen! When 2 holes clear of group behind what is the point of putting us on the clock?
@@joshoddyI did, which is why I referenced the fact you had already been warned, there was a two ball in front of you and that you were complaining about the official. I get the call up hole, there are bottlenecks on all courses. But falling 2 holes behind is pretty hard to do in tournament play. My gripe is keeping up with pace of play isn’t particularly onerous, even with the rules being upheld to the full letter of the law.

It’s so easy, just set up correctly, swing it keeping the face square, proper weight shift & deliver the club with the desired aoa, path & dynamic loft. Hard game compared to others but realistically still an easy game.
