great video thanks for putting it together. DO you know what the OEM router is in the AMR104X?
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 23 минуты назад
No worries, glad it was helpful. I'd not looked at the AMR104X before - I don't recognise the hardware and the form factor doesn't fit with any of the main manufacturers I know, so its possible its been reboxed - or its unique to Avtex. There are also very few pictures and no technical spec of it online which doesn't help (Avtex don't even have the User Manual on their site unnlike their other models) . If I can get my hands on one to look at I'll see if I can find any more out. Looking at what little of the spec is shared, it's quite unusual, with its built in screen (most Pro models avoid this on mobile routers to save power) and having 4x4 mimo antenna connections with a low spec Cat 6 modem (most others start adding 4x4 mimo connections with Cat 12+ when they would be more benefit) I'm not sure 4x4 MiMo will bring much benefit with only a Cat 6 modem. But including a 4x4 Mimo Antenna at least makes it more viable if you upgraded the router later. It would be interesting to see how much admin configuration / remote management is possible as that will indicate where it sits on the Consumer - Professional scale, but I can't find any info on that currently. I'll keep an eye out for more info and update if I work out more. Thanks for pointing it out!

The RUTX50 is just a terrible router! I would say the router is still in Alpha mode not even Beta mode. Much better is getting a Zyxel outdoor 5 G router or even just getting an external antenna and using a normal TPlink Deco 5G router. The speed difference is about 100x or more!!! Also the ethernet port is 1G ... so even if you could get 3.3 G speeds it would not be through LAN. Very disappointing especially as I forked out a lot of money to buy 4 of these.

Hi can you share a few more details about what problems you have faced, so others can learn from it? Have you reached out to Teletonika? I have found them and their Crowd Source support forum extremely helpful in the past. Any issues we have faced have generally been down to user error rather than a problem with the kit. The Zyxel NR7102 is only single SIM so not really comparable, its antennas are directional, so not good for on the move and for mobile use it would have to keep being repositioned eachtime you moved. Personally I wouldn't want nearly £500 of kit outside where it could be stolen. The TP Link Deco only has a Single SIM too, is essentially a consumer Router so doesn't have the level of configuration of the Teltonika and only has 2x2 Mimo antenna connection which means it is not going to be able to maximise the band usage on the 4G+ or 5G networks when using an external antenna and the TS9 connectionss are very prone to damage and coming loose when on the move. For us the only real close competitor to the RUTX50 is the GLiNet GL-X3000 which you can see our review of here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-584LyEDFdiY.html

@@ExploreVanUK Yes of course I had long trouble shooting sessions with the Teletonika support, which I must admit was very good as they went through several live cam sessions. I was testing using the Waveform 4x4 MIMO antenna and just trying to equate to the speed of a normal Huwawei 5G router or a TP-Link Deco router ... without any antennas. We tried everything, from using the normal "ear" antennas provided and also other antennas I had on hand including the incredibly powerful Waveform 4x4 MIMO antenna and Teletonika own outdoor 4 x 4 MIMO antenna (seems like it fits on hood of car or boat). But results were horrible compared to the default 5G routers. I was then told to try the TRB500, which has no wifi and one sim ... and I bought a bunch of those as well ... and on first testing results were amazing and equal if not better than the default routers. I thought I found what I needed ... but unfortunately ... the high performance would only last for a few hours and then speeds would drop dramatically. The only way to get performance up again was a full reboot of the system. Just too many things that seem like they are not properly tested and maybe after a year of firmware updates they will fix all issues, but certainly not when I bought the routers. The best performance I got was using a TP-Link Deco 5G router and having it setup for external antenna and then using a 4 x 4 MIMO antenna and having each 2 lines combined on each of the 2 inputs available. I am using this setup at the moment in Milton Keynes UK and where the RUTX50 has a hard time getting 1mb speed the TP-Link is getting over 300mb! Again I feel it is not the electronics that are the problem, but rather the firmware that is severely lacking.

@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 2 дня назад
Maxview manufacture their own antennas. Unfortunately they don't publish detailed specifications or independent tests for them. Though they do look like quality products and with a good spec for the price. What we are not keen on is that they have to be mounted through the roof and don't have the flexible options to surface mount, pole mount, rail mount and mag mount like compariable Poynting Antennas.

Why bother putting holes in the bottom of the outer skin if you are going to place it flat on a piece of wood so those holes can’t breathe? The holes on the bottom of the inner skin are still providing air to the fire, but now all of the ash is just going to fall out the bottom.
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 4 дня назад
Fair point. But if you look closely at the wood it’s stood on it has deep groves that allow air flow into the bottom holes. Some legs would be a better option if you wanted to go a step further.

IKEA storage bags are also useful to stow away duvets, bedding and pillows during the day if you don’t want them to get dirty. Their thin mattress toppers are good if you prefer a softer bed to the one you have. IKEA one ring induction hob is great value and compact even if you have gas and are on hook up. The kitchen area has dividers and hanging solutions that come in handy perhaps with modification depending on your requirements.

I was reading some reviews on the RUTX14 and some have said it was horrendous around mainland Europe which I understand could be down to the sim I guess. I have two needs.... My current 5 yr old HUAWEI mifi box is not great in the vent of my Fiat Ducato self build in a low signal area so I want to improve on that and get a much better signal inside the van when in rural areas in the UK, it's not awful, I can stream Netflix/Prime/BBC most of the time but occasionally have shocking buffering for no reason, box keeps going from green to yellow and there's only one other house in our area. My other need is something that will work in mainland Europe as I travel a lot over there. I would, for example, get a sim in Spain and put it in the router. I'm not liking some reviews at places that sell this router saying how bad it performed abroad. Do you have any experience with this setup when traveling in Spain, France, Germany, Italy for example? I'm guessing I will have to take down some of my wood ceiling to install this unless it goes over the cab where I have just insulation. Could the Poynting Antenna be installed on the slope of the Fiat Ducato above the cab or should it be on a flat level surface? Any advice would be appreciated.
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 6 дней назад
We’ve used various Teltonika routers throughout Europe with no issues but not the RUTX14. However since they are made in Lithuania and sold throughout Europe I’d be extremely surprised if there were issues when used there. I’m not totally clear from what you have said what you are looking to do and what exactly you have at the moment. The range of Huawei devices is vast and you don’t mention if you are using an external antenna already. The RUTX14 being Cat 12 has the potential to out perform most 4G routers with the right antenna and in the right areas.
@Alsatianx2
@Alsatianx2 6 дней назад
@@ExploreVanUK - Thanks for the response. My set up is a Huawei MiFi Box E5573 (I think), I put it in the vent of my van to get a better signal, I have no external antennas. I'm happy to go with the Poynting Mimo 5 in 1 or 7 in 1 with a RUTX router, I just don't know which one to go with. I have unlimited data for the UK with Vodafone for the MiFi box and would buy local Sims where I can when abroad. The placement of the Poynting Mimo 5 in 1 or 7 in 1 Antenna is what concerns me. I have a Fiat Ducato self build so not many flat areas on the van roof to put the antenna hence why I asked if it would be okay on the front slope of the van near the top as I have the easiest access for drilling due to no wood ceiling above the cab storage area, only insulation is up there so it would be the easiest place to install the antenna on the outside and drilling in from there. I'm looking to improve the setup I already have with something better which would be an outside antenna and inside router that doesn't need to be positioned in my vent because of the faraday cage effect my metal panel van conversion creates. I want increased signal strength and stability. Thanks.
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 4 дня назад
Hi thanks for the info that makes it easier. The Poynting Mimo will perform best Omni Directionally on a horizontal plane so I wouldnt suggest mounting it on an angle. However there are loads of mounting options with them so I'd be suprised if you can't find a suitable way to mount it on the roof. We have ours surface mounted with magnets and the cable goes through one of the existing cable entry points in the roof of our Iveco. So we didn't need to drill any new holes. It can also be surfaces mounted with adhesive, pole or rail mounted or of course through the roof if you need to. You could even run the cables in through a door or window if really wanted to avoid holes in the roof. The Choice of Antenna model comes down to your choice of Router and both really come down to your budget. If the Router has 4x4 Mimo LTE antenna connections like the RUTX14 or RUTX50 then it really is necessary to have a 4x4 Mimo antenna like the Mimo 3-17 to get the best out of it. If you go for a lower cost router that only has 2x2 Mimo antenna connections then the Mimo 3-15 would be perfect and if you are not bothered about the WiFi repeater function / GPS then the Mimo 3-12 without the external WiFi and GPS antennas would also be an option, you can just use the supplied on unit WiFi antennas. Hope that helps you choose!

I use Copilot to get to the area, and if I can not see the business use Google maps to find it. Obviously don't use Google maps for navigation as you might hit a low bridge or get stuck on a narrow road. But you can not beat Google maps for it's directory of business and addresses.

All of these inverters have power consumption with 0 load attached. That might be the worst part in battery pawed system, you can drain your batteries without any load attached to the inverter. That might be cause of inefficiency of small load lightbulb. For the efficiency test to be more accurate you should run a test with 50 or 80% of maximum rated power on all inverters. say 75W, 150W, 500W and 750W loads, and then see how efficient is each inverter.
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 13 дней назад
Agreed, to be fully scientific they should also be run at various room temperatures, various degrees of ventilation and with various balances of Inductive, Resistive and Capacitive load. Unfortunately we don’t have the time to do fully exhaustive tests (nor claim to), but we do aim to give a good representation of what can be expected.

"Modified Sine Wave" is a very coarse stair step waveform, not as nearly as good as shown in the diagram in this video. Useless for anything more than an circular saw. For any modern electronics you want only "Pure Sine Wave".
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 14 дней назад
Thanks for your comment. Modified Sine wave isn’t a definitive term and the “quality” of the wave depends on the inverter and how much effort has been put into the wave modification. You’re correct that some can be very course and others are more refined. As you can see in the video of the one we demonstrated (the wave form shown is the representation of the actual wave from an oscilloscope) can run a microwave, so I wouldn’t say it was useless for anything more than a circular saw. They are also not very efficient when running an AC motor so not ideal for a circular saw. Toasters, kettles, water heaters etc are fine on even a course Modified Sinewave. I think we’ve made a reasonable representation from our experience of using Square, Modified and Pure Sine wave Inverters and which we feel are best.
