I've got this paired with a RUTX50. I've managed to get a decent signal (for streaming) when my Google pixel 7 says zero signal. Very impressed with it.

Thank you. By coincidence I installed one today on my van with RUTX50 (replacing MotorhomeWifi 4G kit!). Too early to say how I rate it but I do like Poynting gear, BTW did you say 410-470Mhz was NOT used in the EU?
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 6 месяцев назад
I don't believe, so I checked as many networks as I could none seem to make use of it. It may be because of the whole of the EU wide Licence free walkie talkie frequency around 433 Mhz.

Just trying to decide between the 3-17 and 4-19, this video was really helpful thx. I do wonder why the speed test results were twice as fast on the 4, as the gain on the 3 in band 3 is supposed to be higher! Apart from the n78 band the 3 has higher gain in every other band, I was guessing due to its larger size.

Great video 👍🏻. I currently have the MiMo3 with a RUTX11 and have found that on some campsites wifi connectivity isn’t great (client mode). I have used Motorhome Wifi iBoost in the past (directional) on the same sites and it performed a lot better. Did you compare wifi client mode between the MiMo3 and MiMo4? Just wondering if upgrading would improve the performance.

Hi glad its helpful! I'm afraid I didn't compare the WiFi performance on the Mimo3 Vs Mimo4 - but I personally I would expect them to be similar. A directional antenna is always likely to provide better gain than an Omni-directional (assuming you know where to point it). If using the WiFi bridge is something you plan to do regularly, it may be worth having a chat with Solwise.co.uk to see if they have a suitable Directional MiMO WiFi antenna you could add to the RUTX11.
@markthomas7380
@markthomas7380 21 день назад
@@ExploreVanUK thanks, yeah I guess the only concern switching to directional as how it will impact wifi connectivity to the local wifi network provided by the RUTX11 (e.g from inside the caravan). I have been using Smarty (Three) this year and the connectivity has been awful at the sites we visit regularly, so Wifi bridge/client mode is something I have had to rely on. I will probably switch over to EE for next year and maybe go for the MiMo 4, according to Poynting it does provide better performance in the 617 to 960 mhz band which is common in rural areas.

Hi after watching loads of your videos and specialy the tektronic vids I've taken the plunge and bought the RUT200 and the Puck 2 magnetic with a car charger,after installing ,on the tv its saying connected without internet ,also on my phone. I've tried all the usual things unplugging, and so forth to no avail.I bought this set up after talking to Solwise and I'm assured it's the right set up for me if I can get the wifi/internet working,any ideas please thanks.

Sounds like an issue with the SIM or the APN setting. What does the Admin page for the router show the status of the cellular connection as?
@Shulag
@Shulag Месяц назад
Complete noob question: The Wi-Fi antenna connections - are they for receiving an external wi-fi signal or transmitting a wi-fi signal? In other words, if I am parked in a campsite that has wi-fi, will this aerial be able to receive the wi-fi signal and transmit it to the router? If so, are the routers smart enough to use both data sources to maximise bandwidth? And are they smart enough to prioritise wi-fi over LTE?
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK Месяц назад
Hi, with the right router the WiFi antennas both connect to WiFi hot spots and transmit the WiFi signal. Yes routers like the teltonika range you can set to failover - or load balancing across multiple network types.

Looking to use in my caravan with an RUT956. Which is better, Mimo3 or Mimo4? Curious if the low gain has an impact on the comparison. Just using for domestic connection but out of my depth, so would appreciate your thoughts.

Great vog Mike as I was waiting for this.I have a slight leak on my v3 version I'm using with my Teltonika Rutx11.I was going to remove, clean it up and refill but sounds like the v4 would give me almost exactly the same performance so worth considering an upgrade?

Thanks - glad it was helpful. If it were me I'd probably stick with the MiMo3 (but I am notoriously tight with my money :-). The MiMo 3 is a great antenna even though the MiMo 4 performed slightly better. If you want the lower profile and more compact size of the MiMo4 - or were upgrading to an additional connection for a new or future router though - you could probably get a pretty reasonable price for the MiMo3 selling it on.

Hi I need helpppppp please! And my technical knowledge is very limited 🤣 If I bought this…. would I need a router also? Or is the Poynting Mimo 4 there to pick up WiFi?! I could be completely wrong but I’m assuming a router is required if I bought a SIM card and the Mimo 4 could be used specifically to pick up WiFi?! But it’s also compatible with a router?! Thank you and apologies in advance!

Hi the Mimo 4 is just an Antenna so would need to be connected to a router to do anything. In our tests we used the Teltonika RUT951 which can connect to both Cellular mobile data and to WiFi hotspots, which you can see here. www.solwise.co.uk/4G-RUT951. I haven't been able to get my hands on one unfortunately. I am also put off a little by the fact it has to be through the roof mounted and I surface mount all my other antennas so it would be a bit of a pain to test.

I am just on the verge of choosing a mobile wifi system in our van build. As best as I can gather from all the research I have been undertaking during the van build, starlink seems to offer the best high speed connection over the entire UK. Poynting seem great bits of kit, especially if paired with a decent mobile router, but if there is no signal then they are hamstrung. Starlink can (almost) always find a signal just as long as the antenna can be pointed at the sky. Downside of course is price, but to be honest, a twin sim card router, both sims with unlimited data subscriptions, is not a million miles off starlink subscription fee (which can be paused any time). As we work remotely, we can not risk an unreliable network service. I would be tempted with a poynting set up if we were over in mainland Europe, but unfortunately here in the UK the mobile network is poor and reliably unreliable by comparison.
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 6 месяцев назад
Totally agree if you need it to work everywhere and need the speeds of Starlink there really isn't an alternative and also great for roaming in other countries. With their current offers on hardware it is good (but factor in that you need to run from an inverter or void your warranty by modifying it for 12 volts, you can't use it while you are driving and the accessories like ethernet adapters etc that are standard with other routers ramp up the cost. But if you can manage with 5G/4G coverage and speeds it is substantially cheaper for the ongoing cost. eg our monthly spend is £18 a month with Smarty for unlimited data. (which we could also pause if not using it) we use it all year so thats £216 a year. Starlink would be £1020 a year.

I did consider it, but then I thought - "Life's too short". We do keep the solar panel clean, but figure the growth on the roof is extra insulation ;-) Like the rest of our video's I'd prefer to keep it real and authentic rather than clean it, when we wouldn't normally, we'd rather be out having adventures than cleaning the van roof. I'd feel like I was selling out like so many Instagram fakers.

Thanks Yeah - this is something that is a bit of a pain - once the video is live on RU-vid you can't edit it, so updating prices in them isn't possible. We include the links direct to the products in the descriptions so that you can get the latest prices. The price reductions on some key models could be a good topic for a future video though!

Not sure what the point of this comparison. If there's no WiFi available as alot of tourers don't get WiFi. What's the point of it being checked . The mobile 4g and 3g performance with say O2 or Vodafone is possibly the best comparison. WiFi is not expected to be used on the go. Thanks for the comparison.
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 5 месяцев назад
Hi, I’m sorry I’m not quite sure I understand what you mean? The antenna receives both 4G and 5G cellular signals and that is the bulk of the comparison with other models of cellular antennas (in our case connected to the 3 network) However certain models of the MiMo4 also have built in high gain WiFi antennas in addition to the cellular ones so that it can be used with compatible routers to connect to more distant WiFi hotspots too. That’s the very last part of the video. The object of the video was to show the antennas performance compared to other antennas. Not test the performance of one mobile network against another. Does that clear things up at all?
