I'm James, a militaria collector of World War One, Two and British 1990s to 2000s militaria.
One day, i wondered if i could buy those uniforms and equipment from that period. My channel features Third Reich and deactivated weapons that have been deactivated within the UK laws and i have no hatred towards any group nor do i have any political views i make videos just for a collector's reference piece, collector's, re-enactors and living history groups. I also like wandering places with Second World War History.
If you wish to contact me about visits to military sites or buildings, I could photograph and film or any comments about militaria items comments/ questions reach out to me here. 👇
Very complete place, I imagine it's fairly isolated?, would explain why it's not completely vandalised and burnt out. Well done saving the sheep, looks like the place has plenty of areas a sheep could get trapped....as evidenced by bones laid about.....interesting soldier graffiti, also good job letting your other half go first into the unknown!!!😅😅😅😅cheers James 😊
@steelhelmetstan7305 Thanks John, yeah it's fairly isolated and not very clear the way you get to it. I did wonder why I could hear scratching sounds then looked and there was a sheep trapped. The soldier graffiti was interesting, 😅 she's fearless that's why she went first I was a little scared. 🙃🙂😊
Good old Bill , in his way to the ROC post....after a quick pint first😅😅😅. Yep all gone , now we have nothing like this today, what if we are attacked?....I think we are pretty much defenseless against nuclear weapons....we probably always were....I've seen the full video on RU-vid of the footage shown, cheers James 😊😊😊
@steelhelmetstan7305 I think old Bill would only had time for a pint let alone getting to the post 😅. You are right John we are defenceless. Thanks for watching. 👍
Interesting, im not 100% sure but i think there is one , or an adapted version of one in a nature reserve in the middle of the seal sands chemical complex here on Teesside 😊😊😊😊
Thank you for watching Tom. I think the war time made and post-war battledress blouses and trousers are the same cut but some deleted features that were removed on the post-war battledress. 👍
Appreciated John thank you. I try and make my videos like a collector's guide. I know the reference books can be quite expensive from around 50£ and up and i try and add all the detail points of the item. 😊👍
@@WorldWarMilitaria1942 yeh good idea....I reckon most collectors want to be given a sort of easy to digest video for reference....explained clearly etc , keep up the good work m8
Thank you John yeah that's quite possible they might have worn captured german uniforms. while researching there was nothing to say there was personal acting as the enemy that i could find. 😀👍
@@WorldWarMilitaria1942 yeah compared to the mk1s they’re definitely an improvement. The only problem I’ve had with them is the horrible plastic insoles🤣
Many moons ago, I used to deliver car parts to the BRM racing workshop based on the airfield. I was there once when they were testing one of the race cars on the peri track.
I don't think they made this in black version I seen metal ones white orange and yellow ones I think I saw another video saying black ones are reproduction made
The Furr brothers on a top secret mission!!!. Looks cold 🥶🥶🥶. I wonder what people will make of these in another 90 years?. What was the deal with the second pillbox and the paint scheme?. I can smell them.....the usual rubbish inside, beer cans , old mattress....graffiti, consisting of male genitalia, backward swastikas, f##k off!! Etc etc etc....i wonder if its part of the local councils remit to make sure these pillboxes are filled with this sort of stuff and the correct graffiti is in place.....oh and dont forget the smell of stale p#ss!😅😅😅. On a serious note, i wonder how often, if ever, these were manned and by whom?...home guard?...i would imagine right after Dunkirk the army would have manned these up 24/7. They maybe fell into disuse after 1944?. Its funny to think that they were built as part of a national defensive network and vital to the nations security but in reality theyve been in use longer by little kids playing soldiers, a teenage drinking den/hangout or a tramps sleeping shelter🤔🤔🤔, good video though😊😊😊
Hi John, thanks for watching, i reacon they will be forgotten about by most people. We smelt the insides for you 😀 😅. Sadly that's what people do today 😔 people have the urge to smash everything to bits. The pillboxes were manned by the home guard as they were deemed sacrificial/expendable. The pillboxes were only meant to delay the attacking forces and allow the deployment of the main body of the army.
Hi, I usually send an email or call if there's contact details. If there's no details, I go to the nearest farm and ask, or they point me in the right direction to where the owner is. Hope this helps.
@WorldWarMilitaria1942 seemed about when u was there .Big electric gate at the main entrance path.. only did the air raid shelters to the left .. I'm disabled .it was very wet and windy
Fun fact, Speilberg actually contracted Red Wing Shoe company, to make the boots for the movie. Red Wing was the only domestic manufacturer left that still had the lasts, used to make the originals. They also still use the same equipment to stitch the shoes together, that was used to make the originals. The model from Red Wing from WWII was called the U.S. Army 1103. There were a few shoe manufacturers back then that made them, since there was literally millions of soldiers that needed a pair during WWII, but Red Wing was the first one to get the contract from the government. The originals did have a raised diamond tread pattern on the outsole, but do to the lack of outsole pattern molds at the time Red Wing couldn’t do it without further delaying production for the movie, because their sole molds department was gonna have to create new molds from scratch, which was gonna take months to complete. So Spielberg opted to simply the shoe for the movie, and just have a smooth leather outsole with a rubber heel cap.
Most interesting! One has left a like for this video, may I ask if these were actually used in the 'Saving Private Ryan' Movie or not? My Kindest Regards, Tom. 👍
@@WorldWarMilitaria1942 Excellent, just to check are they like repro boots and aged for the movie? I was listening throughout your video I just was curious!
@tmilitaria They were specifically made for the film. They are just aged because they have been used they would have been new at first, thanks for watching Tom. 👍
Nice..I sold mellish character prop plastic helmet on e bay in october...fetched 500 quid.....keeping Wade's medic one tho....that's my retirement fund !!!!!
Nice boots....its funny that i still think of 'private ryan' as a modern film....indeed i remember going to watch it as if it was last week....but it s 26 years ago!.......the same time in years going backwards would be 1972.....so its probably becoming xn old film now😊😊😊
My dad was based there with 1651 heavy conversion unit 11/44 to the end of the war. IV visited it twice 2001 and 2005. Steadily decaying but enough left to the memories of those that served there. Good video!
