I thoroughly watching this right through to the end. I must be daft. I want to learn how to colourfast the work once dyed. You skimmed quickly over some parts saying (for instance) eucalyptus was the mordant. The oil from eucalyptus leaves. Could I just use some eucalyptus essential oil? How much? What other mondants are there? I loved the cotton and wool eco prints! I was actually surprised because they came out of the pots sooo dark. They're beautiful I'm a new fan from Canada, again .... loved the video! So perhaps a little explanation for me with more info on mordants? I soaked some dark sky petunias and got a wonderful shade of deep dark purple. I have a cotton crocheted doily for my table top ~ I'd love to dye it and not lose the colour upon it's first wash! How do I do that?
This is fascinating work, fairly simple and creative, very satisfying.. thank you for sharing dear lady. It reminded me of my grandmother also using same easy technique with onion skins when I was a little girl.. meaningful memories revisited ! 🥰
I see your hands in your dying videos my first thought was : she worked so hard... now I saw this video and I know why... what a hard childhood but good memories, too. Yes , you were a brave child, daughter of a brave mother - and became a brave woman. I really love your videos and your sight on nature ❤❤❤ you are a very great artist 🤩 I hope that you are fine for many many years ❤❤❤ many greetings from Germany
I'd love to fly to Australia to practice all that with you!. The big one is so amazing! What is the name of the leaves giving the orange color? Do you put vinaigre onto the boiling water. Sorry if you said that but as a french person I sometimes miss informations.. THANK YOU! Happy to meet you and to hear to strange birds! ;)
I've learned canning shelves preserving meat crocheting herbal meds and now we shall learn how to dye cloth. Next will be something but I love learning anything that I can make my self so I don't have to buy it. And it's just so fun learning how to care for your self and do fun things with out the big company's
This was a delightful presentation. A very restful and soothing experience. Thank you so much for being a lovely teacher, and to your production team for creating and sharing this video 💜
Wow that’s a great amount of interesting information about natural dyes, the equipment to use, & how to keep safe. Never thought that the type of pot metals would make such a difference with the outcome of the dyes. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video & valuable information!
I loved your demonstration and creativity Trudi ; I would love to see what/how you make items with your beautiful fabrics. My mom would use veggies and charcoals to make her own make-up. Like beets for blush and lip color and charcoals for eye makeup and I wished I could of recorded her as she was also a wealth of knowledge and quite witty. I am inspired by your hobby and would love to combine the two as I love using plant based and no waste. Thank you for sharing!
This was so interesting, thank you for this tutorial, you open the door for so many opportunities of how to create your own dye. Hello from the East coast of 🇺🇸❤️❤️
No sé si el traductor automático es fiel a lo que dice el poema, aún así, me pareció una belleza. Dice mucho en cada una de las imágenes que va presentando. Muchas gracias por la entrevista. Saludos
My mom was raised on a farm in S.Italy in the 30’s and 40’s and she knew the secret to all the natural dyes. Her family’s farm was very self sufficient. Made their own soap from used olive oil and ash water. They would dye stockings with coffee. Nuts and onions for brownish & tan colors.
What a beautiful journey she has had in this life. I believe that God the master Creator gave us a glimpse of what it is like to be a creator and to seek out the talents placed within us that we all possess. Perhaps to share with others to remind them of what each of us holds within ourselves, no matter our skill. We are created in His image. We all doubt ourselves at times but ignore those doubts, as they do not come from the Creator. Listen to that inner voice that keeps talking! Thank you Viriginia for your beautiful works and not straying from what God has given you to share with us and glorify Him. You are a blessing!
I'm loving your videos and knowledge. I was gifted a hundred yards of muslin can i dye it in the same way? Well I'm going to try. Blessing's from New Mexico the land of enchantment.
What a pleasant introduction to natural dying👏🏻👏🏻 I knew anything about this incredible process - that so many cultures have used for thousands of years! Just amazing! Thank you for sharing your talent in such an easy & enjoyable format to understand!!
This is wonderful. I really like the Captured by Color series. They really are some of the better videos on RU-vid about dying wool and natural dyes. I like that its recorded in the same style as television workshops used to be like with Bob Ross or Martha Stewart, except more intimate. Nowadays people just snap their fingers and the videos jump to finished products, or it seems like most instructional videos are like that. This is much better.
I've been trying to figure out dying wool without using really expensive acid dyes. I really like the lemon trick with the salt and rusty bits. I guess that's about as natural of an acid dye as you can get. Truly inspiring. Also really like sun dying. Being new to dying wool, I'm scared of felting or seizing my yarn and I guess I've been overthinking the "proper" way to dye it. I like this technique because its more foolproof. Thank you for helping me not destroy my wool. lol
The Sunlight Is Just Using The Heat To Process The Color Over Time Instead Of Taking Electricity To Obtain Instant Gratification. A Different Way, An Older Way, All Around.
