In this workshop award winning textile artist Trudi Pollard gives an introduction to natural dyes. She explains how you can use plants you can find in your own garden and in the bush to create the most amazing dyes. Visit Pollard Designs for more information and to download your complimentary workbook.
www.pollarddesigns.com/
A message from Trudi to all her viewers:
Thank you all for watching, I hope you learned and enjoyed , these sessions I presented . Thank you to “ The Team “ Andrew Pheasant, Karen Hudson , Helena Pollard , Celine and Gregoire. I could not have done it without you . Thank you to the City of Armadale for supporting Artists, through their creative isolation project. And of course a big thank you to Mother Nature who provided all I needed .
From JAK:
JAK has been privileged working with Trudi and Helena. We have learnt so much from them and they have made our job so much easier as they quickly learnt the ropes in regards to making films. Two very special people and we are delighted that we have been able to help share Trudi's amazing knowledge of making natural dyes.

My mom was raised on a farm in S.Italy in the 30’s and 40’s and she knew the secret to all the natural dyes. Her family’s farm was very self sufficient. Made their own soap from used olive oil and ash water. They would dye stockings with coffee. Nuts and onions for brownish & tan colors.

I love this video. I understand that there is more than what you can cram in a one hour video. Also, this doesn't seem to be a tutorial. It's just one woman's way of doing the things she does. I got a great warm feeling just watching Miss Trudi and hope she keeps on doing those things she likes to do. 💟

Trudi, I feel like I stepped into your kitchen. Your video lessons are the best. And I love the clothing you have made also. I am a knitter, crocheter, spinner, weaver, and amateur natural dyer. But I make my own clothing out of my handspun/handwoven etc. You inspire me with your living artistry. And I love the way you achieve many of your colors through soaking.

My first time to dye in more than a square of material. Big fun. Your skills are many and I would be grateful if you would do more videos on each of your lovely dyeing and then on the sewing of garments, slow stitching and the use of wooden buttons and door shavings!! I've been a crafter for many years and unless we use technology, all our work will die out. Bless you.. Marion

I've been trying to figure out dying wool without using really expensive acid dyes. I really like the lemon trick with the salt and rusty bits. I guess that's about as natural of an acid dye as you can get. Truly inspiring. Also really like sun dying. Being new to dying wool, I'm scared of felting or seizing my yarn and I guess I've been overthinking the "proper" way to dye it. I like this technique because its more foolproof. Thank you for helping me not destroy my wool. lol
