You can afford anything, but not everything. We make daily decisions about how to spend money, time, energy, focus and attention - and ultimately, our life. Every decision is a trade-off against another choice. But how deeply do we contemplate these choices? Are we settling for the default mode? Or are we ruthlessly optimizing around a deliberate life? Host Paula Pant interviews a diverse array of entrepreneurs, early retirees, millionaires, investors, artists, adventurers, scientists, psychologists, productivity experts, world travelers and regular people, exploring the tough work of living a truly excellent life. 1:55. If a big weath transfer is about to take place first from the Silent Generation to the Baby Boomers , then from the Baby Boomers to the Millennials, where does that leave Gen X? 1965-1980's?
I love your show and have been watching for a few months now. Just my two cents here, the new graphics are distracting, especially during the call-ins. Guest questions are a lot of info to follow normally, but it helped to see it in paragraph form on a plain background to get the details and gist. With the smaller bits of info and the animation in the background, I can't focus on the particulars. Also, three minutes is a long time to wait for the episode to get started. Not trying to be rude or offensive. I hope the feedback helps!
Hi Alicia -- thank you so much!! I'm thrilled that you're enjoying the show. Thank you for your feedback! A glimpse behind-the-scenes: We recently let go of our previous video editor. We're currently (paid) auditioning new editor applicants. Each editor applicant receives our brand guidelines (fonts, etc.) and then we tell them to enjoy creative freedom and show us what they can produce! This is the first of several videos which will have a drastically different style than usual, as we audition our new job candidates. (The next two videos scheduled -- interviews with Michael Kitces and Meir Statman -- each have a different applicant performing a test edit on each one.) Long story short, this isn't our new graphics style - it's the first of many samples of work from (paid) job applicants who are performing a test edit. Expect to see dramatically different formats, graphics, styles, etc. in the next several videos! :)
@@affordanything Thank you for the behind-the-scenes info! That's an exciting experiment. I like that viewers get to witness the applicants' debuts. Great to hear that all applicants are being paid for their audition. I'm such a fan of your show and really appreciate the reply!
🙏🏽 Thank you! It’s been a hugely educational experience on the hiring side, as well - I realize that my brand guidelines need to be far more robust and detailed! As of a couple of weeks ago, our guidelines were a few fonts, colors, and logos. As we move through this process, we’re adding heft to our brand style guide! It’s one of the many ways I’ve come to appreciate the overlap between procedure and creativity. Thanks again for being a huge fan of the show! 💛💛
@@affordanything It's cool that you learned more about your company through the process. I'm glad Afford Anything will be even better by the end of the process!
GeoArbitrage is one of the most incredible ways to increase disposable income. Cities like Buenos Aires, for example, cost less than HALF of what a major US city costs.
It was odd when I worked from home before Covid people were like oh I wouldn’t like it everyday 😮 I loved it and wish I was still remote 100%. Now I get one day from home 🙄
I also check my accounts ( Vanguard, EveryDollar) everyday except Sundays. I’m not ready to admit that I have a problem 😂. I always obsess over something anyway, so I try to make sure that it’s a healthy thing: running, eating vegetables and fruits, traveling, reading, budgeting, saving, walking. I must add listening to Afford Anything to the list. I love your content and other podcasts like it.
Glad to hear both of you talk about different factors within the stock market such as size and value! Also glad to hear you talking about how gold can be a great diversifier in a portfolio when you're drawing down a portfolio. From what I've learned from Frank Vasquez at Risk Parity Radio, it sounds like a no brainer to include these different asset classes in a portfolio (assuming you can stay the course). Also I thought long term treasury bonds have a negative correlation with the overall stock market?
It's not how smart you are, it's how are you smart? 🤯 I've struggled with dyslexia all my life and had to (painfully) figure out how I was smart! That really struct me...wonderful interview, thank you Paula and Jim!!
