No image really does it justice. You have to see it in front of you in 3 dimensions. To me it's a model of a perfect person physically.

5:08 ‘probably gay’ that’s a slightly bizarre observation, he was either gay or not gay, enough of the propaganda 🤦‍♂️ Many believe he was heterosexual, let’s not make this about his sexuality. Ps. 5:24 ‘if he could paint his arse off for them’ Dude, the make up of your narrative is way off … your turn of phrase is low level 🤦‍♂️

You are correct. Michelangelo is the greatest artist working with stone and marble that ever lived.

Michelangelo lived in a de Medici palace while he studied and practiced his art.

Gay? Not in the modern sense. Caravaggio was a rule breaker and pretty much anything taboo or illegal, he indulged in and partook of.

I'm going simplify every tale, story or long explanations about Caravaggio's violent and irregular life and demise, in JUST ONE STATEMENT. NO ALCOHOL, NO MURDER, NO ESCAPE TO MALTA, NO PROBLEMS IN MALTA, NO SUDDEN DEATH. Over anything else, consumption of alcohol was the real culprit before that simple reasoning got hijacked by tv dramas and intrigue.

Bernini surpasses Michaelangelo. And please remember that all of these sculptures are machine drilled marble from and arm bouncing off a wax model, allowing the sculptor to up the scale of the finished product, but repositioning the fulcrum of the mechanical arm holding the drill.

The David is beyond perfection! Every single part, neck, arm, hands & the beautiful face is too awesome to contemplate. Michaelangelo is not of this world- way beyond genius. And in marble. And 17 feet! Unique in the globe! Dumbstruck!

I went to the university in Urbino. Nice video. Urbino is in the marche regione. This regione is not as well visited as Tuscany but the countryside is very similar in appearance. Although not as big as Florence, Urbino has a very rich cultural history. It's the birth place of the great artist Raffaello di Sanzio. The Duke of Urbino was a great warlord of the Renaissance. His court played a major role in the Italian renaissance. He is buried with his son Guidobaldo in Urbino at the city cemetery of San Bernardino. My mother and father in law are also buried there in the same cemetery as are many of the citizens of Urbino of centuries past and more recent. If you have visited Italy and wish to return, go off the beaten path and visit the marche regione. You will not regret it.

Good presentation. When you visit you realise that this where architecture and sculpture merge, as you are standing inside the work. The individual pieces have not been placed randomly, they interact. They have sight lines - they look at each other. This is real 3D.

All the old sculptural masters used wax models, taken from casts of their subjects bodies, the models then used as a template to guide mechanical drills, making the marble copy. All classical portrait art was painted from light box camera projection.
