Just bought a new one (2024) carbine version. I thought the finish could have been better as it wasn't shiny and it wasn't matt. I took it completely apart because it was covered in preservative and I was surprised that I had to pry the magazine end cap out because the spring pressure was so weak. The spring sticks out of the magazine tube maybe two inches. Perhaps that is to keep from damaging the lousy plastic shell follower. Other than that it is well made and functions perfectly. Just my opinion but a gun that cost as much as this one did you think they could have a metal shell follower?
@@jamess.829 the finish on mine is perfect I didn't take anything apart so not sure about the spring or follower. I am curious now so I will take it apart and get back to you
@@leverfever375 If I didn't have a comparison I might not have noticed the finish as much as I did. A friend bought a model 92 just before i bought the 94. The finish on his 92 is beautiful. Shiny and deep black like you would expect it to be. That's why I thought the 94 was almost a matt finish. When we took his rifle apart it had a very nice shell follower that looks like it is stainless steel and the spring pushes it out with some force just as you would expect.
@@leverfever375 If you do find that it is a plastic follower I would strongly suggest that you replace it. I got a Winchester steel follower from Homestead Parts. Fits and functions perfectly. Part #wp722.
I bought a similar rifle in 44-40 at Taylors in Winchester Virginia ,,,,,,I tell you what i did with mine is i took some 0000 steel wool and made the receiver area a little less dark to point where it looked more the ones in the movie Tombstone ... and similar movies,,, just a personal thing
@@leverfever375 Thank you, I was contemplating maybe doing the same, tho I would like to get a later receiver like your lightweight. All I find is the earlier black powder receivers and I don't know how long it would be before the actions starts to stretch. Though it may last a while using the 71 bolt and lugs. How does your rifle look so far after using it?
After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel ru-vid.comUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!
My uncle had one. He would take it deer hunting and people would flock around it. This video doesn't show how big it is. It would swallow a normal 44/40.
Very nice build for the 71 glad you saved it. Took my 71 elk hunting last year and opening morning a bull stepped out of the cedars at 450 yards ,to far for the 71 but very fun packing the gun around .
Interesting custom rifle. The .348 cartridge probably deserved more popularity. It was a fully capable 200 yard woodsman's cartridge for bigger than deer game. It really shines on bear, elk, and moose.
Too cool man! I'm gonna try to find an original stock set for a Lee Enfield SHT.LE Got a sporterized one with a major crack for Christmas. My son is awesome lol Gonna get it close to original if I can find the stock set, so far no luck. Wont be cheap but a fun father son project
