G S - That is a real beauty. At first I said 1873 Winchester, but the 50-95 makes it the 1876 - USA was 100 years old at the time. Winchester got that rifle out in time for it to go to the buffalo hunting fields, but most still preferred their single shots - after all the buffalo just stood there quizzically as they were dropped one by one from the big cartridges. That Chapparal is extremely fine and historical to boot - Congratulations on owning that rascal!! -- FC

+FortuneCookie45LC I have acquired a 5 gallon pail of wheel weights now and will start casting in spring. Also the shop down the road does our pro powder coat so He said he would definitely powder coat these for me. Should be a real fantastic coat since he does industrial powder coatings for us.The powder coat he will be using requires a positive, negative charge and oven.

+BPCR Bigginer -- Wow, you could do a video on the operations at the commercial PC shop - would be very interesting to many. On the WWs, I got ya beat - I used to buy WWs 300 pounds at a time from a recycle yard, and I was also scarfing up as much as I could from tire shops at the time...That was before the gov put an end to WWs going out into the public, all tire shops had to turn the WWs in plus they had quotas calculated for the shops so if the shops insisted on selling or giving the WWs to casters, the numbers would be off and fines levied = nasty - the supply of WWs went to zero and quick. What a surprise when the metal scrap yard simply told me that WWs were no longer for sale, and the tire shops said no soap today or ever... Enjoy those WWs while you can - if you can still get them, the day will soon come when all you get are zinc and steel. Best Regards, FC

G S - sorry I could not reply to your latest comment about H110, but I can't even see the whole comment - Google must have lost it somehow. Best Regards, FC

+FortuneCookie45LC Hi Cookie.......basicly I loaded 44 mag to the wrong max........I had the page sorted wrong and glanced down at the max load of 28.5 grains of H110 but that was for a 200 grain bullet. I am loading 240 grain JHP so the max load is 24 grains..........so now I have 60 rounds of 44 mag loaded with 27 grains of H110 powder when the max for that bullet is 24 grains......It is for a Winchester 92 with octagon barrel new in box. So I am wondering if this is still safe to shoot from this rifle even though it is over. I corrected the problem and the rest are loaded with 23.5 grains of H110 for a 240 grain bullet. What are your thoughts.. is this still safe to shoot from this rifle and is this a common mistake among new reloaders. Also why is it that the heavier the bullet the lighter the charge?I would like to shoot those hot loads as long as it is safe to do so.

+BPCR Bigginer -- I'm glad that you re-posted. Thanks for that. In strong guns like the 92, overcharges above max loads of up to 1/2 grain are essentially proof loads. Firing one or two of those every now and then would not be problematic. But for your very fine octagon Winchester, I would definitely tell you to avoid shooting overloads of any kind - it's just too nice (shall I say extremely nice - stupendously nice - galactically nice??) a gun to abuse. 3 grains over max is a definite no-go. Please don't do that as there is not a responsible reloader on this planet that would tell you to shoot those. A bullet puller is the best way to disassemble those loads and be able to reuse the components. Your range should loan one to you to use if you don't have one - just show them your Winchester. Your 23.5s are very prudent and practical - the best accuracy is usually a tad below the max anyway, and that is where you are. Congrats on the ownership of a classic 92 octagon Winchester in 44 mag. I'd love to own a new one like you have, and I'd shoot 95% 264 grain cast RN and other heavy RNPF or SWC cast bullets at +P to light magnums in it - anything that stops one of those at 1000 - 1200 fps will have seen a better day. Plus, your gun will be bullseye forever... Best to ya, FC

+FortuneCookie45LC Thanks Cookie. I will buy a puller. Your wisdom never falls on def ears here. If you ever come up to Canada look me up and we will shoot them all.I will definitely ask Mario if a tour of the powder coat and a video is doable while he powder coats the .512 cast bullets should be late spring. That 1876 is a lot of fun to shoot I highly recommend anyone to try one out, especially with black powder cartridges it really gives it something special.

+BPCR Bigginer -- The 1876 gives the feel and heft of mounting a single person 20 mm cannon to the shoulder (kidding for sure). It's those big hulking BP cartridges... taking us back to the buffalo hunts of long gone days. Canada is a great place for big lever guns..!! Hope you can do that video - it's going to be a hit especially if you title it right so people can find it... Best Regards, FC
