Frank my friend, you are the exact person I come to platforms like RU-vid to learn from!!! I truly hope you have kids and or grandchildren to pass this plethora of knowledge down to!! I really hope you read this comment! If you are ever near northern Illinois. Look me up!! We can be friends for sure!! I appreciate this little gem of knowledge that you just dropped on me!!

Question about the switch. Why is the switch needed? Just so that you can shut it off so the relay does not over heat? I bought the relay and it came with a heat sink device but there is no way that device will fit in the deep electrical box. If someone has to remember to go to the dust collector to shut off the switch for the relay or even put the switch somewhere close to where you work, then I am not getting the idea of automating the DC to come on by opening a blast gate. I mean I get the convenience of any blast gate opening would turn on the dust collector and shut it off, but then we have to remember to flip that switch. I am not liking that option because then it would be easy to forget to turn it off. I have a remote for my DC and after watching several other videos on doing what you have done, and after wiring everything to make this blast gate automation, I am now stuck with the idea of having to remember to turn off a switch for something you cannot see or hear running. I was thinking why couldn't I have use an alexa enabled switch instead of the one I bought. That way maybe I could out some automation in place that says if the switch is on for a certain period of time, turn off the switch or send me an alert that it is on for say 30 minutes or an hour. Thoughts?

Switch is not necessary. It is only there to to turn off power to the low voltage dc power supply to save electricity.

billiant set-up. I really got alot out of your video - even though I'm watching it 7 years after you made it. My intention is to use an Arduino and have the gates automatically open when the tool is powered up. It's a big project - but will be a blast. I'm in the information-gathering phase.

Something I should have included in the video. When cutting circle cut into the start of the circle than back blade out rotate the blank ccw a few inches so that when you make the cut a triangle of wood comes out. This makes it easy to extract the blade when the cut is done.

Really like your Jig Frank really makes it easy to get great circles. The only problem I have is when I made mine which I'm going to redo and make it like yours is as the blade binds trying to cut circles of those pieces of logs like that. I wonder if I need to go to like a 1/4" or 3/8 inch blade I've got a three-quarter on now and trying to do Walnut and it just won't cut a circle. Thanks Glen

Tested with light just like you did and even plugged it in wall and light works but cant get it to light up in the outlet box. think maybe relay could be bad? Thanks again, Wayne

Another question for you if you dont mind. Does the wire on micro switch need to be wired individually to terminal bar or can they be wired in micro switch to micro switch? I have 16 blast gates to install. Thanks in advance.
@frankorlowicz7002
@frankorlowicz7002 Год назад
Yes they can be wired switch to switch. As long they are wired in parallel so that any switch will complete the circuit. If you have a long wire run you may need a heavier gauge wire and a higher voltage for control circuit to account for voltage drop on a long run.

Thanks for sharing your skills in fabricating the pen and power supply. While I'm a firm believer that people need to take responsibility for their own necks when dealing with mains power supplies. I noticed that you might want to caution others about the high voltage capacitor that can maintain a voltage even when the mains supply has been disconnected from the microwave. The capacitor can be discharged by shorting out the two poles with a insulated screw driver. Thanks again for your generosity in sharing.

can other types of transformers be used ???? necessarily that of the microwave? so you just have to remove the secondary right?

When making pens I use Pringle lids for mixing the epoxy , when it sets, bend the lid and it should fall off
@kylewo0

What would cause my blade to bend slightly? Other than tension? I had some good circle blanks.. then I started noticing my blade under stress 🤔😳
@frankorlowicz7002
@frankorlowicz7002 2 года назад
Sorry it took so long for a reply. The only thing I can suggest is to be sure the teeth of the blade line up with the pivot pin. Also the blade with will limit the diameter of the circle. A wide blade will not cut a small circle without binding.

Should be the same. Of course you need a 240 volt dimmer and a 240 volt microwave transformmer. But the output should be the same about 3 volts.

I already have practically everything built, the power supply, the pencil ..., but I am in one last bump, and it is about that connection of the pencil to the power supply, would you be so kind to give me a little more detailed information About this part, such as its name, where can I buy it, with this information, you will be giving me the starting signal not only to finish this project but also to start new projects with this amazing tool, I thank you in advance and I’ll be waiting for your help regarding this concern, Luis.
