You'll probably recognize me from my other Fire Making channel, David West Channel ru-vid.com Here, I'll also be presenting many fire making techniques, experiments, and "How To" videos, but with something extra. Most of the people that have Subbed my other channel are only interested in... info and demo. This channel is going to be for those few people that want info, demo, AND a touch of personal... "a day in the life" type videos, my likes, dislikes, fails, and other personal interests and information.
Hi David! This bracket fungus is just one example of why firemaker R&D is so important. The last place one wants to spitball ideas is when he is shivering like a lapdog out in the woods. Great stuff as always.
Nice! My favorite movie scene is the hand drill in “Quest For Fire”. I’ve done the hand drill successfully but have wondered what the little clumps were in that scene that the guy used as a coal extender / tinder. Maybe it was that Bracket fungus.
I would have to add a little bit of a finger choil to the handle and probably a small loop lanyard to catch a finger or two, so i dont get my fingers up on the edge. Alot of folks prefer knives with the simpler ergos and no lanyard though. I only have a few hundred knives and i am afraid i am going to attempt this someday. You and Dave got financial interest in a putty knife factory somewhere? See ya next time
Now all you need is a sone freshed sliced home grown tomatoes. I love butter beans, cornbread, and fresh tomatoes. I like the onion garnish too! Me and you would get a long real well!
David...you didnt say, but I assume these are rescue dogs. My wife and I have rescued animals over the years, and I dont regret any of them. I rescued a cat several years ago who got hit by car, and she was lying in the road while people were still riding over her. I stopped the truck and put leather gloves on and scooped her up. She was having seizures so I took her to our vet which wasnt far away to have her put down. I cant stand to see an animal suffer. Anyway when I got her to vet she had head trauma and my vet said before I put her down she gave her some pain meds and some valum to stop the seizures. She said lets see what she does over night after keeping her comfortable and if she doesnt show any improvemnt I will put her down. Next morning I get a call from her and she said she had some good news and some bad news. I said ok hit me with the good news....she said momma is doing really well. No internal damage and her eyesight has partially come back. I then said ok...give me the bad news...she said I already have..she is a momma. Well 4 weeks later we ended up with one rescued momma cat and 7 kittens.. No good deed goes unpunished right? We found wonderful homes for all of them except for momma and one of her little girls. That was 12 years ago and everyone one of them, including her and the baby girl are doing fantastic. All are spoiled and in fantadtoc homes. I decided to keep momma because I figured no one else would want her because her eyes look different due to the head trauma. People can say what they want but animals have feelings and understand. We have had many resues over the years but momma cat is so appreciative and is so loving. She has trouble sometimes with her eyesite and sometimes makes mistakes with the liter box but she is so loving and kind. When she does make a mistake she thinks she is in trouble and will hide but we always reassure her that mistakes are ok. Not sure why but whwn I am home she doesnt let me out of her eyesite. She follows me around like a dog. I truely believe she is thanking me for picking her up off that road and taking her in. Anyway, those are some beutiful dogs and everyone one of them adore you. I could tell when you walked up to them. Their eyes dont lie. I about gaurantee all of them are great pets and love you to death. Take care David and thanks for sharing those beautiful family members with us. God bless you!
David....didnt know youbhad two channels. I went ahead and subscribed to this one too! The name of this channel caught my eye. In todays society it is hard to trust people you dont know but I always give them the benifit of the doubt. Love thy neighbor and your enemies. Hard to do sometimes on the second one but I try. Love both of your channels and everything you do and share. God bless you and your family.
The Rainy Day by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow The day is cold, and dark, and dreary It rains, and the wind is never weary; The vine still clings to the mouldering wall, But at every gust the dead leaves fall, And the day is dark and dreary. My life is cold, and dark, and dreary; It rains, and the wind is never weary; My thoughts still cling to the mouldering Past, But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast, And the days are dark and dreary. Be still, sad heart! and cease repining; Behind the clouds is the sun still shining; Thy fate is the common fate of all, Into each life some rain must fall,
And the key chain rod does it again..I made two for me. The rods did not have a hole so I had to slow drill the hole for the split ring.. it works great and I have my spare.
I think you have to have an organic component (cotton) and a mineral component (rust/ferric oxide or the minerals in ash!) to create the friction amongst the cotton fibers that causes them to ignite!!!
Lichens are a complex life form that is a symbiotic partnership of two separate organisms, a fungus and an alga. Use dry Lichens, crush to fines, place in 10”s of a cotton ball, do 20 preheats (forward rolls), roll to near disintegration, and use lots of fines in your tinder bundle because the ember will be weak. Is a fire roll where you put ashes into a paper towel shard roll it up like a cigarette and then friction roll it to start a fire? Can you demo or correct me
Another good video, but I never knew you were a fascist. You made a good fascia, though. I'll remember that trick, because I live in the dog fennel capital of the world. When I was a kid, I couldn't be beaten if I had my dog fennel rapier. I won many a duel with them, and thought that was about their only use. When they're blooming, though, I hate the smell. I guess I might be allergic. As for inventing, I imagine some primitive discovered it 3,000 years ago, but, if you didn't know about it, it's just as ingenious as if you were the first. I'm constantly reinventing things, myself. Great minds think alike, you know.
