The algorithm decided to no longer show me your channel, so I missed your departure and subsequent return and I'm curious to how you feel this video has aged? Strix laptops just dropped to what one retailer called the biggest release they had ever witnessed. While this is a bit off topic Strix Halo stands to define the laptop market, though I haven't heard any pricing. Was it not wise in hindsight not to go after the high end using chiplet architecture for the first time, it was not the performance gains they had hoped. Despite what Steam surveys say there sure seems to be more interest in Radeon GPUs simply because of Nvidias pricing strategy. Does Nvidia even want to be in the consumer GPU market with compute offering such high margins? Was Ray Tracing and DLSS just a way to throw AMD off kilter, slow them down on compute? With the position Intel is in I haven't heard any news on Battlemage. Despite it's potential will they continue pursuing a division that could not have brought in much, if any revenue? I bet there has been a massive shift in the corporate culture since the heads have started rolling and will most likely continue to roll. They squandered as much support in high end desktop consumers and partners as they possibly could have in smearing blame and the abysmal solution (just keep RMAing until you find an opening). Stories of refusing more than one RMA despite owning multiple affected CPUs. The earnings bloodbath didn't even bring all their issues to light. I discussed buying puts with my advisor on two occasions last week and I almost don't want to know what those could have been worth I just built a new system and when I saw the 253W TDP Intel was not even remotely a possibility considering the 90w TDP of my i7 7700K. Put an asterix next to those benchmarks, Intel was juicing.
I have only been PC gaming since the 30 series and 6000 series launched I went Nvidia first then when the 40 series launched I bought a 7900XT and have been blown away with AMD.

For AMD to even had stood a chance vs AD102, they would've needed to design an 800mm2 die (gcd and mcm), which would've been an actual 600W gpu, RDNA3 is fundamentally flawed, which is expected with new first gen designs, but saying amd could've easily done so is a full spoon of cope, they barely beat nvidia's 379mm die with their best N31 die using 520mm of space, while pulling as much power as a 4090, having clocks notably higher than rdna2, and using a die fully used for shading units and L2 while nvidia's die is around 70% shading units, and the rest for their dedicated hardware. Damn, even in last gen, they needed the better node to be more efficient than ampere, and were just barely so, while N21 was 520mm2 w tsmc 7nm VS GA102 being 628mm2 on samsung 8nm, while nvidia using 4nm+ completely blew amd's in efficiency while using 5nm+6nm. Sure, if they wanted to, they could've, they simply would've needed an actual 600W gpu to compete vs nvidia's 400w one, once you start seeing actual testing, the 4090 and XTX are within 30w of each other while the 4090 performance lead is still a whole tier ahead, sad to say, but they really didn't stand a chance.
Needs part 2 for everything they have been doing since - ultramonopolistic practices resulting in state responses including having their offices raided, engagement in cartel-style intimidation to block companies from using hardware by other producers, withholding of information on their cryptomining revenues from authorities, exploitation of the cryptofarming boom to artificially keep GPU prices high for all users, engagement in the most greedy pricing policies with mediocre products, threats made to reputable hardware reviewers of not sending them GPUs for reviews unless they test them with settings favourable to the company, etc.
Regardless of the percentages shown I still feel like some of the RT performance is locked from competitors and between generations thanks to cuda somehow. Which is something nvidia has done in the last 20 or so years quite a few times
I got a new 5800x3d that ran hot (for my taste) with my ancient Alpenfohn Ben Nevis, reaching 75-90 in demanding games like Star Citizen. I read it handles -30 on all cores for some other people so I tried that and it dropped my temps by 10+c while also running stable in everything I have tested. I decided I need a new cooler so I strapped on the Thermalright Peerless Assassin and while I am not sure the performance changed much since synthetic benchmarks are particularly bad for testing this CPU, the temps rarely ever approach 80c, even with laxer fan curves.
7 years on from this video we should all know that AMD singlehandedly smacks Intel around in the CPU space, and strongly competes with Nvidia in the GPU space. I'm rooting for Intel Arc to be more competitive in the GPU market as well. More competition means lower prices.

My brother and I reciently started playing this game. Your prediction of vega was interesting, but spot on. My brother has a 1600x with a vega 56 that was overclocked to 1550 mhz in games. In Geothermal Valley, he averages 111 fps. I have a 5800x3d and a radeon vii. I ran the benchmark at highest settings in 720p to see how high the frame rates can go. Geothermal valley got 179 average with 153 minimum. I know the gpu is the bottleneck in this situation. Even at 720p, the radeon vii was at 99% usage throughout the whole test. I loved it when this video came out because it showed more needed to be done at the time for accountability. Now these days, hardware unboxed occasionally check games by comparing both the fastest processors from Intel and Amd as well as the fastest gpus from Nvidia and Amd. Any ryzen cpu runs great with a modern-day amd gpu in the tomb raider series. Everything plays smoothly as well as looks stunning.
