It would have been nice if you guys had the mindset to mention where this reserve is. Who write the script that Barbara Thomson was struggling to read? I would have thought a highly paid deputy minister would at least have a working knowledge of South Africa's main business language. Will the reservations for these accommodations be just as messed up as those for the Kruger and Kalahari parks? Where everything is always fully booked, just to find out that occupancy is never above 80%.
SA does wonders that we never get to hear about, it’s over shadowed by ANC corruption but I swear people who love this country are doing amazing things behind. This country will get better, next year we are voting them out. SA will prosper💪🏿🙌🏿🔥😌.
What authorizations is needed to set up an aquaculture farm in SA? I think that aquaculture is a great way to fight food insecurity/shortages, especially with water levels rising.
Burn our coal here! Why on earth should we export it at bottom dollar for rich countries to burn it and grow their economies further, while we borrow their money to buy their manufactured renewable energy technologies?!
Dear Minister, we have lost more than 70% of rhino in Kruger over five years, irrespective of all commendable efforts to curtail rhino poaching. Why is it so difficult to understand that criminal rhino poaching syndicates will continue to function financially lucratively as long as you oppose the legal trade in rhino horn. Who will take the responsibility after we have lost all rhino to poachers because of short-sighted policies while we have all mechanisms in place to ascertain secure legal trade in rhino horn ? Are the lessons learnt from the alcohol prohibition in the USA not clear enough to show that only criminals benefit under such circumstances (why would it be different in respect of rhino horn for which there is a proven continuous demand).
SA exports more than 30% of our annual coal production for rich countries to burn for the benefit of their own economy and wealth. Why on earth should we be rushing to be independent of coal until big wealthy economies have first transitioned themselves? There should first be a global moratorium which makes all fossil fuel use only to be allowed on its continent of origin. This would not just speed up transition but also reduce much inclination to fund war in far off places
The shift from conservationist to preservationist policies has forced rangers to become firstly soldiers, rather than wildlife managers. If CITES had allowed continuous, regulated horn trade, this sector would not be owned by criminal syndicates, but by those who own, manage and truly care for wildlife.
Clearly bans aren't working and besides depleting our national Rhino herd, endangering our wildlife rangers and costing the Taxpayer millions in investigations, prosecutions etc isn't it time for a regulated sustainable legal trade?
Demand won't end. Legal trade by legal producers, mostly which will be from live and safe rhino, is the only way to save this species. Under current CITES policy, only criminals benefit. And the Minister wants more of the privately owned rhino set free into extended regions of extensive range. Easy targets for poachers
EISH what about KZN spots? why do we have so few offices in KZN... this is a serious issue. richards bay and Durban need offices. what can we do to get better representation in durban and Richards bay ? @ENVIRONMENTZA
Nothing ventured nothing gained. Lot of hype around a compiled document. What is needed is to find out and establish is who is going to do what and when. Time is running out and action is needed..
