@@spearfishingexp I use a gopro 11. I use a high bitrate 4k at 60fps 10 bit colour Iso Max 400 Video colour raw and then I colour grade in davinci resolve
I saw one off the coast while fishing we were in a 28 ft black fin when it circled the boat i feel to my knees i couldnt believe how big it was and he lifted its head out out the water just enough to look at us at that moment i realize how small we really are i cant imagine being in the water with a creature with that much power the captain said it was 16 ft i couldn't tell i was star struck i will never forget it.....
It's a humbling experience being in the presence of an apex predator. Well, terrifying in the moment and humbling after the fact. I'm guessing this shark was around the 4 m mark. Where were you at the time?
@DownDeep we were around 30 miles off the coast on New jersey tuna fishing. we were in 600 feet of water, this was a while ago, and I always think about where it is right now. I hope it's still swimming somewhere. I think about it a lot it really affected me in a way I can't explain
I'd say it's still swimming around mate. Unless it swam into a pod of killer whales😅 Pretty crazy what they are doing to the whites in some parts of the world
Great video and a belated congratulations! I am only in my second season and I am participating in our national online freshwater tournament. Lots of fun so far.
@@DownDeep I am in Oklahoma. It’s right in the middle of the US. It’s a tough state to spear with not a lot of clear water, but we get it done😁 Arkansas is next to us and you can spear game fish like stripers and walleye there.
I've been out at sea for the past month with no proper service but have been waiting to watch this video the moment I got back on land! It was certainly worth the wait and didn't disappoint, that was some incredible footage and fish of course, can't wait to shoot a billfish myself. Love watching your vids 🙂
Much appreciated Ethan😁 glad you enjoyed it mate. I thought this video would have performed better. Can never pick which video will do well 😅🤣Welcome back to land, hope it was productive.
@@DownDeep Hahaha yeah the youtube algorithm is a funny one! It took a fair few of my videos a year or so before the algorithm actually picked it up and started pushing it. How was the audience retention on this one, I can imagine it'd be pretty high given it's a shorter video?
@EthanYeo1 this one might still have a chance😅 it has 74% retention for the first 30 seconds and 57.5% retention overall. Pretty good numbers for my channel. Ctr is 6.6% which is a little lower than normal. I wonder if youtube is trying to push longer videos over the shorter ones
How I spent years spearing every day off the rocks south Sydney without seeing a single shark I’ll never know 😂😂 thousands of hours hauling bleeding fish on a float and not a single tax man
Great advice to drop weight belt. Here in South Africa we unbuckle our belt when ascending from a deep dive holding onto the loose end. If you blackout you’ll let go and your belt will fall away. Can save your life.
I do this too! Not every dive though. Only if I feel a little off or I stayed on the bottom a little too long. Might be a good idea for a video. Little things like that that some people don't think about that can save your life. Thanks for the comment🙂
@@DownDeep Yes. Not every dive. We also have a clip on a short lanyard on our belt to attach to our float line and jettison our welt belt when an accelerated accent seems prudent. I suggested to Rob Allen last week that he should do a video suggesting some of these common sense safety measures. The more RU-vid sites that get this information out there the better. Lives could be saved.
That's a great idea. I'll make a video in the near future on some basic safety tips like holding your disengaged belt while ascending. Could save a spearos life
That's awesome, glad you are enjoying the content and finding it helpful. If you want to improve your diving quickly , I would highly recommend joing your local spearfishing club.
Haha to be fair with sails down not lit up, they do look like a marlin. But that's pretty epic you managed to get the shot considering it wasn't super interested in you. 👏🤙
Good work Liam and crew! I was there beside you earlier then shot up further north. Been a poor billfish season for us trollers but an excellent pelagic season in general on everything else!
Liam spotted a bunch of bill fish smashing bait while we were dealing with the sailfish. So there were a few around that day. The sailfish was full of long toms. Do you ever use them for troll baits??
Wicked video mate, well done. That Sail fish was a ripper, thay go so hard. awesome footage, thanks for sharing the adventure! Dive safe, have fun! 🤿🍺👍🙏😁
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure if it was trying to intimidate me or it saw the flasher behind me and was checking that out. Whatever it was doing it made for great footage 😅
@@DownDeep haha for sure! I've heard of Marlin turning and taking a swim at spearos if you chase them, but have no idea regarding sailies. I guess it could be similar based on this!
Thanks mate. Yeah there was a lot of pressure to not mess up the shot. As far as eating goes it was pretty good. No way near as good as mangrove jack or trout though. The wings on the BBQ were very good, my favourite part of the saily
Schuessler Tissue Salts Mag Phos Muscle Relaxant Oral Spray 30ml I have to get some for myself to keep on the boat. Pretty handy if anyone is having cramping issues.
Yeah man, 7.5mm rob allen shaft. I have been thinking about trying an 8mm manny sub shaft. I think the rob allen 7.5mm gets a little shaft whip some times.
Fins shouldn't break (but they do)! I have had a pair of Ray Powel Diver fins for over 15 years, a little tatty on the ends from trundling over rock platforms but still going strong. Good reliable fins are essential!
This is the first time I have seen it. I have a pair of diveR composites, they are about 10 years old. Still going strong. The fins that snapped were brand new diveR inegras.
100% mate. That's why it's imperative to at least dive one up one down. Anything can happen at any time. Dive buddy is the number one thing you can have for safety
Haha, cheers mate. Danny was on holiday or something. He missed out! Was an awesome day. Gun is shooting a lot better now. The shaft had a slight bend in it
I have a 7.5mm rob allen shaft. The shaft without the shark fins as I hear they are prone to snapping. I also run 16mm mannysub rubbers, best rubber I have used. What gun are you using, I might be able to help
@allanjr808 very nice, I want to make another gun for blue water hunting. I already have the double roller head. I have not used primeline I don't think. Mannysub has just been flawless so I don't see a reason to try anything else
Hey mate, it's a 90 etec. It's starting to miss a bit at low revs. Apart from that it runs pretty well. I'm looking at upgrading to a Yamaha 115 when finances allow.
@@DownDeep I am getting a 150 Optimax. It only has 220 hours on it and they are pretty fuel efficient. The Yamaha would be good but the newer 4 strokes are crazy expensive.
Yeah, they are pretty expensive. For myself I think it's a good investment. I will be using it all the time. With better fuel efficiency and more reliability, I'll be able to do longer and further trips. What boat do you have
@@DownDeep I have a 1800 Mustang. One of the older ones that has had the floor and transom done and pod added. It is a bit rough, but should be a solid hull. I had a 115 Opti on a previous boat and it was super efficient, I could get 85km on 30L which was amazing. The 150 Opti I bought was only 5k and only had 220 hours on it. I know they are reliable and fuel efficient so I went with that to keep the price down. We are based in Mackay, if you are ever up that way or want to do Cloughy look me up!!
