THIRD EYE BLIND FROM SAN FRANCISCO, MISSION DISTRICT. MOSTLY GUITARS WITH OTHER THINGS KNOCKING AROUND. RIFFS AND DEEP BEATS. LYRICS ARE EXPANDED IN A KINDA HIP HOP WAY. THAT WRONG THING YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO SAY- WE SAY IT. BLACK ON BLACK PRETTY MUCH FROM THE BEGINNING. JACKED ON COFFEE. WE ARE A FABULOUSLY DISORGANIZED BUNCH. WE SEEK IMPACT WITH FRIENDS, TRY TO SURF WHENEVER WE CAN, DIRTY JOKES, LOOKING OUT FOR EACH OTHER. WE HAVE EYES AND A VOICE SO NO SURPRISE WHEN WE SPEAK UP. WE CARE ABOUT SHIT. NO SEQUENCERS. NO BACKING TRACKS. NOT A DJ GROUP. WE BELIEVE IN THE GATHERING POWER OF MUSIC. IT TOOK US A LONG TIME GET THINGS THIS WAY BUT IT FEELS LIKE WE ARE UNDERWAY NOW. GUESS YOU COULD SAY WE ARE A ROCK BAND. BORN IN SHADOW MADE OF LIONS LOUD AS FUCK.
Kinda sound like dicks talking about the kid who polished and stringed the guitar. I understand from their perspective they were dealing with the drama of people trying to position themselves and this kids work was viewed as getting his gold star to position himself in the crew. Get on Stephen’s good side. I get it. The other perspective is that these people are employees. They’re not rockstars who have become successful working outside the box. Sure, everyone has a job and you should polish the guitar without a gold star but that’s just not how employees work. Unfortunately they need meaning to their work as well and can polish and string anyone’s guitar. They’re not rockstars but get meaning and joy out of Stephen enjoying his polished guitar. Problem is it’s difficult differentiating someone trying to position themselves and someone seeking approval through hard work. I think in today’s world where it’s hard to find a great employee I would just be happy my crew did their job, did it well, and wanted a tiny hint of recognition they did a great job. After all, they don’t have fans stoking their egos every night.
