For the walkway I would do all round and half round grey tile to make it look like gravel. A lot of the paths near the beach are made this way in real life.

On the board walk a mini store and an ice cream shop with a small shared dining space might work. A bike path behind the boardwalk would break up the gray in that area. Overall I think you’re on a great path. I’m enjoying watching the changes you’re making your city.

Clear and trans blue cheese slopes are your friend when doing a sea shore, with them you can create waves, they add a bit of texture to the sea. I think your cliff/mountain idea that will be a clear divide between the city and pirate theme sections is the right way to go. You will need something to separate these two very different themes, modern city cant go next to pirate theme stuff, well it can, but I dont think it should. have fun building!

Looking well smart, very nice indeed. Couple of suggestions, As you have the black tiles around the steps I would go with brown tiles not the black for the rail track sleepers, Ive gone with the 1x4 wood prints in light and dark brown and it does look pretty good. Secondly, throw in a couple of MOC Modulars amongst the usual Lego modulars, they add a bit of difference because as they are not Lego designs they are far rarer and add your own touch. Find a Lego set building that youve seen on sale really cheap then go on Rebrickable and take a look at "Alternate Builds" and see if you find a design you like the look of, you can end up with some pretty cheap modular style buildings that few people have ever seen before, I found 60380 half price and found on Rebrickable a modular build from that set and it just adds a bit of something. Take a look, its by Brick Artisan, set 60380. The 1x4 wood print tiles are not cheap, but I convinced myself that at some point the wood print tiles would be the end goal, so as I would be buying them at some point in the future If I bought them now I would be saving money because I would not end up with hundreds of brown 1x4 tiles I had no use for that the wood print 1x4 had replaced, I would only be doing it once not twice, so saving money. Now technically this is true...but only if I was definitely going to upgrade to the printed tiles, I dont think I was. I saw someone use the wood print sleepers and just had to copy them as it looked so good. Have fun building!

Just noticed that the stripes around the boiler look way better on yours. mine are a bit outa whack, yours look perfectly straight.
@_travis_bricks
@_travis_bricks 3 дня назад
This could be because I think the boiler is a stud or so wider. Again, I didn’t build the original version so I can’t speak to that, but I thought he said that in his video. He has two videos regarding this subject. I linked part 2, but part 1 is equally informative. There’s sooo many videos out there of people trying stuff and I watched about all of them lol

Just built it and ive been looking at how to do it because there is no spot for bogey plates and I only have train motors that use bogey plates. Also the wheels are very stiff in turning because of not using bogey plates. The decision to not use the magnets to connect the carriages is also annoying, my skinny fingers still struggle to get in that gap to connect them. They are my two main issues, I think I will replace the connectors with magnets as they are so much easier. I cannot recommend getting two enough, four carriages looks magnificent, we know this is not a cheap set, but this is basically the new Emerald Night, only with better carriages and you will regret not getting two to complete the train. Long ago I bought the Santa Fe and BNSF and two carriages...yes, just TWO carriages! What was I thinking, why didnt I buy at least 8 so each engine had 4 carriages???? I do not know why, had the money just did not buy more, and now they are just far too expensive, do not make my mistake if you have the spare cash, there is barely a time I look at the BNSF with its no carriages and do not have huge regret (the santa fe gets both carriages, so bnsf gets none) do not make my mistake. What if I put one motor under the Tender and another under a carriage? Does the vid you mention try using two train motors? My last motor like the ones you used stopped working but I never liked doing it the way you show because the train made so much noise and was so slow, I like the normal train motors, I have a feeling they wont be enough. Bet you I end up buying the same motors as you and doing it your way in the end, never done it with two and a diff gearing. Great vid! have a nice day and keep on building.
@_travis_bricks
@_travis_bricks 3 дня назад
I want a Santa Fe so much, but I just can’t justify the price. I barely justified the price to get an Emerald night, and now I’ve been looking to get more carriages and those windows are so expensive. I’ve found some builds that use something different than the original windows and it drops the price significantly. It’s on the list. I’ll probably try to pick a second copy up used in a year or so. If I have happen on a good deal, no rush, but I’ll definitely get it before too long. I KNOW I saw a video where someone had done the tender and the carriage test, but I don’t remember if they tried them together… I also don’t remember if it was Danjo’s video or not, but somewhere I saw that the weight was too much for the magnet connection, especially when adding more cars. But I agree the current way is very clunky even for my smaller than average hands. What I’ve found is the just prop it up with my finger and “slam” the car into it. Not efficient, but it works. You’ll notice I actually used a technic lift arm for the connection between the engine and the tender. I didn’t wanna risk the engine separating from the tender and pulling plugs and the whole thing get stuck somewhere dumb. If I can find the video with the motorizing the carriages, I’ll drop it here. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
@neilrusling-je6zo
@neilrusling-je6zo 2 дня назад
@@_travis_bricks So i looked into 2 train motors and it aint happening, I hoped to replace the 6x6 plate in the carriage with a 2x6 technic plate and a 4x6 plate, but its too close to the end and far too much of the motor sticks out, looks all sorts of awful. The Tender also looked awful and one motor does nothing as soon as you get to a corner, so I removed the train motor. I have ordered 4 motors, wanted to order them from Lego but they have nothing, everything is retired or out of stock. Cannot say I am all that impressed with the replacement for Power Functions, no extension cables, limited inputs, less motor types. Other than the Bluetooth connection everything is a downgrade, I knew where I was with the old system, it had the medium and large and extra large motors plus the servo motor for points and the train motor, thats 5 motor types, all lego had in stock was train motors which I have and cant use. I had a feeling I was going to be doing it your way, plus I will take your advice on the connectors and go with technic pins that are easy to connect and never fail. So now I am stuck looking at my gorgeous dark blue train that wont move for another 10 days when my 4 motors are expected to arrive. The Emerald Night is in my view the greatest Lego train they have released, I could almost justify ANY price for it. The reason I have ordered 4 motors is because I intend to also put 2 motors with the diff in my Emerald Night and have it pull a few Orient Express carriages. The greatest engine pulling the greatest carriages, now that is going to be simply magnificent, a ten outa ten all day long! Why not give it a try? You could even make a vid out of it, have fun building, all the best!

Do you plan to put any lights in the train tunnel entrances?
@_travis_bricks
@_travis_bricks 19 дней назад
So I had thought about it, but my concern was if I put a light there, you’d see inside the tunnel too far and it’s not finished very far in. If you look at my video for the tunnel that goes under the city gardens, I did leave studs for maybe like a red/green light, but I didn’t on these. IRL it’s very dark on top and in front of the tunnels, so I’ll probably need to address that someway, but not totally sure. Brickcross station is gonna be right in front and will have lights, so I’m kinda hoping some of that light will spill over to the tunnel area.

I’m assuming those are the Pirates of the Caribbean sails? I have not washed those, and it’s hard to say with the ones I’ve washed if the whites got whiter or if the colors popped more or both. But I don’t think it would hurt. And the very least it would for sure fix the dust problem, unsure if it reduces sun damage/aging. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, unfortunately I haven’t seen any of the PotC ships on a good enough bargain to pick them up yet.
