Also at the end something I noticed in my playthrough whilst bt is getting ready to destroy the fold weapon he seems to be in his first form with the green
The campaign was SO. WELL. WRITTEN. Like holy shit, man. I remember being inconsolable for a good 30 minutes because of the ending. My fiancé hit me with the “aww babe, are you okay?” And I had to say “no 😢a friend died for me.”
At the very end of the game, when Sarah catches Jack by the arm, she says "Got you." This is the exact same thing that BT said during his iconic catch, and yet it feels hollow. I think that's intentional. Even music in the background refuses to acknowledge the moment Jack is brought to safety. Jack wastes no time to turn back and watch the explosion behind him as the full scale of the destruction is made apparent, but it seems he's still completely stunned. From my perspective as a player, this was a shock too. When BT's first chassis was destroyed I wished to myself for a world to burn. I didn't anticipate that it would happen like that, losing the companion the game had JUST given back to me. And at my own hands, in a way.
You forgot the post credits scene where Jack's helmet shows morse code that reads "Jack?" As well as when you were running back to the ship you can see the same (crosshairs? Whatever they are) in Jack's HUD. The same ones that were there when you had BT's datacore. Conclusion: BT never died.
Quick comment: If you say "With my luck, this place could turn itself inside out." BT responds with "Or upside down, considering the circumstances." Edit: in Abyss 2
i honestly feel like a major flaw in the writing is how soon we got bt back, we should have had to play an mission w out bt and get him back at the end of that mission. the fact its only like 10 mins before we get bt back makes his previous actions have less impact.
BT is actually alive. When beating the game and after the credits. Something will happen coopers helmet shows up and his helmet will blink in Morse code. It says jack. Meaning BT is still alive.
I started playing this game after lunch on Sunday and finished it by dinnertime. And until Wednesday, I was desperately searching for evidence that what BT did was not just because of the protocols to uphold the mission and protect the pilot. I want to believe that it was because he cared about me - Cooper - and knew that I cared about him. That was how I consoled myself after falling in love with a robot and losing it in just five hours. Then I found this video. Thank you; I love every single line in this video and every comment here. Brilliant analysis. It's a real treasure for those who love and miss BT and want to share that emotion.
Another detail about the ending scene is when BT replies, "I have done the math," further implying that he knew what he was doing from the start. This could have been the full extent of the comment, or more literal in the sense that he knew where the dropship was coming in and knew where to throw him so Jack would survive. It makes sense, considering the conveniently placed rubble that Jack lands on. Either way, it's extremely touching.
I am actually a descendent of General Baden Powell the founder of the Boy Scouts, my Great Omas last name was Powell before getting married into the Socratese Blood Line. The major reason the boy scouts are failing is because many Christian churches and Conservative orginizations provided funding for them. But when they broke off from the Christian Values that were originally taught all that funding dissapeared. Allowing Openly Gay men to be scout leaders of young boys, allowing young girls to be around these boys even at overnight activities like campouts. It caused groups like the LDS Church to pull out all there funding. Especially after reported sexual assaults of scouts grew after allowing such changes.
if there ever is a titanfall 3 you cant tell me it wont have something to do with bt being sent back in time and reuniting with jack after jack (and the player) has realized how dry the new titan is and there will be an emotional meetup once again
I played the titanfall 2 campaign only a few days ago and i knew bits and pieces, never watched a full playthrough but i was interested in it. Saw the game on sale on steam for a STEAL and i knew i had to get the whole thing, all the context etc. Your point on Jack not saying anything after BT's first "death" because he's pissed pretty much applies to me too, only that i was cursing out the IMC soldiers while raising hell with the smart pistol. I saw this in another comment too but BT having the authority to "keep" Cooper could be solidified in BT being one battlehardened sonuvabitch. 3 years under Lastimosa probably gave BT more in-combat experience than most of the other soldiers there. Him saying "Cooper is my pilot" could be seen as an order too. Yes Sarah says "Permission granted" but i reaaaaaally don't think she has much power over BT. He's not just a part of the crew, he is THE part. Us, the player, Jack Cooper piloting BT is what makes it whole and what makes BT whole. Also also, maybe he didn't want Jack to get put back into the Rifleman-position. He's still protecting his pilot by not sending him into the meatgrinder that's infantry. edit: also, for a long time BT and Cooper had no support. Yes there's one mission where you storm the wall along fellow titans but for most of the campaign BT and Cooper were mowing through IMC, through titans, through the damn APEX PREDATORS like they're butter ALONE!!! BT and Cooper have ***some*** form of respect and authority down there
Fun fact: The writers struggled to write BT's tone, he felt too bossy too "authoritative" then Steve Fukuda told the team to check out "Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet", more specifically "Chamber" the mecha AI/Pilot Assistant. "While the world of Gargantia is very different from the world of Titanfall, the way that Chamber (the big robot) and Ledo (the pilot) interact, learn from one another, and depend on one another resonated with us. The symbiotic nature of their relationship - they both need the other, inextricably - was very similar in spirit to the relationship we wanted to develop between BT and Jack during the course of Titanfall 2."" - Sean Slayback If you watch the show there are very close similarities to Chamber. Chamber even goes from just a "robot" to joking around like BT. I really recommend the show, you won't get a war drama or anything like that, but the characterization of a mech and his pilot learning and growing together is top notch.
A few other things that really brings out the personality of BT and his connection with Cooper that I'd like to mention: When BT requests to maintain the link with Cooper at the end of The Beacon, BT specifically puts Cooper in his cockpit while asking Sarah to keep the link. The important thing here is to remember that Sarah is the leader of the Marader Corps SRS. THE frontier militia. It is such a emotional powerplay on BT's part and I love it. Also when BT is knocked out just before he asks Cooper to help him get to the Foldweapon he mentions "A throw is our only option" which is of course a reference to The Beacon again, but it also hints that BT already knew that he needed to throw Cooper just as they approached the Ark. He also sends the cordinates to Barker and Sarah which makes me think that he already knew exactly where all the debree would fly as well as the fact that he would sacrifice himself. Something I wonder is if he deliberately delays the inizalisations of his protocols just in order to make sure he would get himself and Cooper in the right position so that Cooper would get out alive. My god do I miss BT, he's such a well written character, especially his bond with Cooper. Hopefully one day we'll get a Titanfall 3 :( PS: Awsome video, keep it up!
