Welcome to Foggy Lane Garden.
Located on the North 47th parallel, where the cold Labrador Current meets the warmer waters of the Gulf Stream. The resulting fog and cooler weather can make growing a successful vegetable garden a challenge to say the least. Couple that with living on an unforgiving chunk of rock, thrust out in the middle of the North Atlantic ocean, we must adapt, overcome and innovate to scratch our produce from the meager patches of soil. But we do it, and we do it well, all the while with a smile and a twinkle in our eye, because we live in the best place on earth!!
This is Newfoundland Vegetable gardening. Welcome aboard!!

Looks great I wonder if it would work in the heavy clay rich soil here in Uppland Sweden? I also have as many rocks as potatoes here... 😂 Anyways it could be worth a few weeks of scrapheap welding so I don't have to dig in it each year...

I use a cheap plastic manure fork to pick up the potatoes after, saves on the ole back bones! 😁👍

I used to leave my potatoes out for a few days as after digging to dry, weather permitting of course.

Lovely! 2 meals is better than none, those looked yummy. If I remember correctly, you had planted 3 seeds in that one container? When we do above ground T8trs we only put one (whole) seed per in that size in late spring and have a good result, we do not have a greenhouse. We also use less soil on bottom and mound the greens with a mix of hay and compost. What a great experiment and inspiration thank you for sharing!

Mine do better in the ground, but I always miss some when I dig them up. Having volunteer potatoes every spring isn't such a bad problem to have I guess...

@foggylanegarden
@foggylanegarden 4 месяца назад
Thanks!! Haven't used any fertilizer at all. The stuff in the heated bed is growing in heavily amended soil (chicken compost, horse/vegetable compost) the lettuce in the clear totes is growing in just Promix, no fertilzer at all

I bought this year the large disposable aluminum roasting pans from Walmart. Started spinach in one and lettuce varieties in another. Will starting eating when it’s ready. Have tomatoes started also. Live here North East South Dakota Use a 6ft by 3 ft cold frame the walls are insulated. Bring the stuff in towards evening. Have also put a portable electric heater in it which works to keep it above freezing at night and cold days.

I grew two heritage types of tomatoes. One Very Large type, and one of the tiny salad types. Grew and produced so well. The next year I planted the seeds I had saved. The plants propogated well, but didn't produce as good and true as the first year. My little garden plot must be too small, and the two types too close together, and I got an unintentional hybrid?? Any suggestions?
