You nailed it; I was Evercade curious too. Taito all the way for me but ive concluded I'll get every iteration including the new Atari and Technos ones and also a spare Taito one to use an EverSD with.
Thanks for putting this out. I just acquired a pair of Radtel 490's. What I found out was that the Interrogating radio (#1) has to transmit the data burst on GPS coordinates screen that says #2. I'm going to do some experiments to see how far away the units have to be to show up as a "●" on the "compass". The return data burst or "handshake" makes these very much like the Yaesu ARTS. No return handshake, out of range. Yaesu is automatic. These are "manual".
@@BreakingPintMedia well I got the green one off of Amazon a couple days ago and I’m enjoying it but I did order the bundle from Funstock. I guess I don’t have to worry about it being delivered when I’m not home for Thanksgiving.🤣
I'm grabbing the Taito one because of the fact their old games are not constantly available like Capcom and the colour scheme is nicer. Right now all the old Capcom games, loads of 'em there are, are on sale on Steam with the most expensive 85p (about a US buckeroo) so there are options. BTW there are a couple of games that don't currently work on the Pocket, "Cathedral" is one. I'm grabbing it with a cart of 6 European arcade games (Gaelco Arcade Collection 1). It's the perfect little device to carry around as a time killer and if I end up getting a load of carts I'll just pick up a Vs to play them on my TV.
As well as native games, the EXP screen allows for accurate emulation of the Atari Lynx and GBA. Something a 4:3 wouldn't do. It's not just about it being the only available screen type. It's also an IPS screen. The EXP has other problems though.
I have the exp and vs. Read so much about it being for newbies to evercade. For me is about a third of the price of the exp and is excellent for otg. I use exp at home only. So my taito version pocket will be for travelling and say if in library i can game on with headphones 😊. Looking forward to trying it in just over 3 weeks.
This will play Namco cartridges. The issue was the BS nuanced licensing that said the cartridges can only play on evercade portable devices and not a full console aka evercade VS.
I'm fortunate to have the home console and EXP with all of the cartridges and really enjoy them. Usually 2 cartridges arrive per month by mail and are only about $25 Canadian each, delivered. If you're concerned with shipping charges, Video Games Plus in Canada offers free shipping if you buy 2 cartridges. There have definitely been quality issues with some Evercade products but I've never encountered any personally. Enjoy!
I don't have a retro game handheld. I wasn't able to choose one and last evercade was too pricy. Now I'm going with the taito one. I like the games plus italian amazon has only this one for pre-order.
I assume the audience for this product are those who are not typically retro gamers (perhaps they own one or maybe 0 retro consoles) or the retro console curious but are hesitant in putting down a lot of money into getting into retro gaming. And for that specific audience then yeah I think this is good product. If you are an experienced retro gamer then you are probably not the target audience.
I'm not so sure about that... Speaking for myself, at least, I own almost every retro console that ever was, several "real" arcade cabinets, and many reproduction or 3/4 scale cabinets. And, although I'm not a hard-core game collector, I still own a large collection of games. I also own almost every iteration of Anbernic handhelds, GameShell, etc. I also work in the gaming industry. I think it's more along the lines of those of us who never felt the Evercade consoles called to us are drawn to this one.
@@BreakingPintMedia for me I never felt the call to evercade or heck retro gaming in general, I don’t own any retro consoles, I don’t download retro games etc… so for me to give retro gaming a try at only 60$ is a good deal. If I find out that even after giving the super pocket a try that retro gaming really isn’t for me then I am only out 60$ no big deal. So to the newbie of retro gaming I think this product hits the mark perfectly.
@@tiredguy2753 agree. I think Blaze made a smart move with this one at its price point. As you describe, both from the perspective of those who aren't into retro gaming, so no point in spending a lot of money on systems that still require fiddling to be tailored to your liking (most emulation handhelds) or "feature-rich" consoles like the existing Evercade lineup. But, also from the perspective of those who are into retro-gaming but felt that same lineup wasn't for them. This has the markings of a successful product, and their new brand could become their primary money maker!
I love my Evercade (original handheld), you pay for the game curation and the physical media. You will appreciate how the games are treated and It's a real treat to get the cartridge in the mail. It's more way fun than you would think and the games are very reasonable. I play it a lot via HDMI on my computer monitor with headphones at night, such a cool experience to pop in a new collection and see what they put together.
I'm excited to be entering the Evercade ecosystem! I also like the shift towards more indie collections as well as two-game and single-game carts that are more focused. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with the original Evercade!
I'm excited to get into it. I have 'every game' on my Pi, but can never pick anything to play. This will give me some more focus and appreciation of the content.
Compatibility with Evercade cartridges depends on the ability to update firmware. If this ability is not present, then some of the future cartridges are likely to not work.
The Taito version will now have 18 games, they kept the inclusion of Puzzle Bobble a secret to begin with It's the VS console that the Namco cartridges won't play on, as Blaze only have the licence for handheld systems.
Thank you for the clarification on the licensing issue with the Namco cartridges! Also, that's really cool about the addition of Puzzle Bobble. Another commenter mentioned that a few days back and I'm excited for it.
My situation was very similar to yours. I love retro games, but a dedicated system seems kind of silly when most of those games are available on the Switch eShop if I want them. But when I saw these, between the design and the price it was an absolute no-brainer. I preordered the Taito edition, which to my eye is both way cooler looking and has the superior game lineup. I love Capcom's games in general, but they included the worst Mega Man and I'm really not interested in single player Street Fighter 2 on those built-in controls. (Ghouls'n Ghosts is very tempting, though; maybe if they had included Mega Man X it would have put it over the top) Taito's classics are less famous, but they're so, so good. Kiki Kaikai is the first game in the Pocky & Rocky series and it's incredibly charming. Then there's Bubble Bobble, an undisputed classic, along with the full array of Taito's own Bubble Bobble clones that I affectionately refer to as the Bubble Bobble Extended Universe: Don Doko Don, Fairyland Story, New Zealand Story, and Liquid Kids. Toss in an all-time-top-5 puzzle game with Bust-A-Move and this is a handheld that's going to get a lot of play. In my excitement I also preordered the upcoming Sunsoft cartridge for Blaster Master, Journey to Silius, and Mr Gimmick. I held out on Evercade for so long and these Super Pockets reeled me right in 😅
I'm actually quite fond of the Taito classics... And that's why I wanted to get both! I played Bubble Bobble on the arcade and NES more times than I can remember. I still whistle the music from time to time. :) I also loved Operation Wolf on the Arcade and PC, though admittedly, I really sucked at it. But like most games of the era, that was probably a "not just me" problem... lol I agree...the tangible nature of these trumps their availability on the Switch eShop or collections through Steam. They're like collector cards... with buttons, screen, and cool color schemes. Enjoy yours once in your hands!
From a value perspective, I agree. The collectible aspect of the Super Pocket and Evercade brand attracts a niche market, so in a sea of readily available handheld emulation consoles, they're targeting a relatively small audience. Thanks for your comment!
Go buy a $20 data frog 2000 and you won't believe what you get for the price. Other then that Evercade is actually licenced games and they will have value in the long run.
Really enjoyed this video thank you. I preordered the turquoise and black one as I was really drawn to having Space Invaders in my pocket etc I’m from the same era as you. Enjoying have a look through the rest of your content and I’ve subscribed 💪🏻💙💪🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm excited for these, and I just read on another comment that Puzzle Bubble is in the Taito one, which is great because I love that game. Enjoy yours once it arrives!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm using Pinball FX3 (through Steam) in cabinet mode. Cabinet mode requires that you email the folks at Zen to request a code that enables it (they ask a few questions and sometimes ask for pictures of your vpin cabinet setup to confirm it isn't being used in a commercial setting). Once they clear you, they provide the code for free. Once you enable cabinet mode there are various options that become available, including options that allow positioning of the DMD display on as secondary monitor (it's pixel coordinates based and a bit of a PITA, but once you make sense of it...it's not a huge deal if you need to do it again).
@@BreakingPintMediaThank you for your response. I was able to get the machine setup with a cabinet code as you suggested. It's working great but for now I still have to use the stock pinball FX3 interface and a mouse/keyboard to select a table. At around @14:27 it shows you quickly and easily just scrolling through tables so curious what software you are using that allows you suck easy table selection. BTW your DMD looks awesome! No matter what scaling/position options I have tried my DMD still awful grainy in-game while your score and status messages look awesome @12:28. Thanks again!
Hello! I can't link through RU-vid as they disallow that, but if you Google "Radtel RT490 bluetooth software" it should show you Radtel's firmware and software download page towards the top search results. The Android APK you want is for the RT490, which is functionally the same radio. Use precaution when downloading and installing APK files off the Internet as they have been known to contain malicious code from time to time. Hope that helps!
@@BreakingPintMedia I've gone through the radtel page almost daily looking for updates or comments. I have installed the APP every time but until today, it does not work at all. I have Android 13 updated. It doesn't work. Grscias
I've been trying to get this working for 3 weeks now. It works fine in VPX, but I can't get it to work in Pinball FX, Pinball Arcade or Zaccaria. The x360ce clearly shows movement from the kl25z and it's mapped to the left thumbstick, and I verified in all of those games that they are using the L thumbstick for nudge. Also, x360ce keeps randomly remapping other buttons when I don't want any other buttons mapped.
Excellent tutorial, thanks. I managed to get a realistic nudge but impossible to get a TILT or a DANGER although the little black arrow in DX Tweaks easily reaches the maximum.
I have a Radtel RT-620 with GPS. Your video here is helpful. I've connected it to Radtels Radio Programming Software. There is no interface to Repeater Book or alike. How do you import repeater date to your MML as I assume you use the brand's similar Radio Programming Software?
Admittedly, I have only used the Bluetooth based phone app for programming these radios, labeled as "Super Walkie-talkie" (I was hesitant to install it because of the super generic name and overly-Chinese nature of the UI). The app allows you to define the RX frequency and TX offset for each channel you program, as well as any PL tones in both directions. I don't believe it has the ability to download pre-defined repeater lists/data, but once you've defined your own, you can back them up within the app. I haven't checked if Chirp or the like already have support for these radios. Sorry for the blind leading the blind situation! Hope you are able to find a better way to go about it...especially if your area has a lot of active repeaters...whole lot of typing with wee keys! Cheers!
Congratulations. You are the only one on RU-vid that simply shows the GPS functionality of these radios, I had a hard time finding you. The radio I am looking for is the same but under the Abree AR-869 brand. Thank you.
I agree, i have also been looking for “what can you do with the GPS feature” of this radio. However, from what I’m seeing in other reviews, some of the software functions like GPS may not be set up the same across the different brands for this radio.
I don't believe so. This radio does support GMRS frequencies but there are likely variances to the data exchange protocols used by both manufacturers. Also, GMRS location data is a fairly new thing, and the JIANPAI radios are primarily meant to be used on ham bands (they're not FCC certified for GMRS).
Thanks for the demo! I actually think the ECM-XYST1M is pretty underwhelming. In the specs it says that it has a frequency range beginning at 70 Hz, but at what amplitude I wonder. It severely lacks bass. So do the inbuilt mics, but who would blame them. Ok, I mean... I think Sony *should* put more decent mics in their cameras because smartphones show that it’s possible to put mics in a tiny package that elevate the audio quality from "barely usable" to "probably good enough for a lot of things". While to the ECM-blah-blah sounds better than the built in mics, it still doesn’t manage to make that jump IMO so that I’d go for a different solution altogether.
I agree with your assessment. These are mostly usable for safety track and voice recording, but even then they require some post cleanup to be usable. I've had an old'ish TASCAM DR-100mkIII that I use outdoors and its built-in mics are truer to their advertised frequency response. Not the greatest thing but definitely better than what these Sony mics capture. Thanks for offering your thoughts!
Some of those portable recorders by Tascam and Zoom really are amazing! I’m more of a musician and sound engineer than a videographer, so I’d call myself kinda picky when it comes to audio quality. Those little recorders typically do not disappoint 🙂
Its not the dirty Elec that will Harm Electronics its Voltage Surges & Spikes . If Dirty Elec. harmed Electronics then all those People that have the BIG 20-30KW Whole House Generator would be burning up Electronics Because there NOT Inverter Generators ! Reg Generator use two Methods to Control the AC voltage output First and The Worst is a Capacitor the Engine RPM's Go up & Down when a Load in Put On and Removed the AC Voltage will go Up & Down too NOT GOOD for Electronics ! But a Generator with a AVR (Automatic Voltage Regular) the AC Voltage will Be Stable and is OK for Electronics , Inverter Generator where there Really Are useful is in CAMP Grounds where they have Restrictions on Noise from using a Generator or Neighbors that may get upset . Small Portable Inverter Generators are WAY WAY less Noisy then a BIG Regular Open Frame Generator ! IF you already have a Regular Generator and what to use it to Power Electronics with the rest of your House MAKE sure it have a AVR and NOT a Capacitor Most Newer Generators use a AVR But older One used Capacitor a lot If your does have a capacitor i try and sell it and Buy One with a AVR .
I wouldn't say the models with an external CRT were higher end models. On the contrary, they were older models. By the mid 90's Brother was able to ditch the heavy and costly CRT for a large LCD screen that made the unit more compact and portable for the customer. This was a selling point.
That was true of their older, built-in "wide" CRT models but alongside this one they had the newer 7000 series (such as the WP-7550j), which were more expensive and made use of an external B&W CRT and inkjet printer instead of daisy wheel. That did take away their portability, though.
Nearly bought this cab, until I found out about the TN monitor, and now a bad update? This is awful. A1up should stop putting those TNs into our expensive products. There are about half a dozen other cabinets I really wanted, but won't buy because of those TNs. Hope they get that over air update to you soon. But yeah, definitely go on, and mod that bad boy out with a proper monitor, and Pi. Thanks for the news on this yet another A1up problem.
They fixed the firmware within a few days, but that was a bit of a circus to push a bad update the week of release. I have replaced the panel with a Dell IPS LED panel since and the games look great now. The best part is attract mode from across the room looks proper. The cab itself (furniture) is their best so far. Much more rigid and the speakers are excellent. The size is also a much more usable size for grown-ups. That said, I'd wait until they go on sale. I wouldn't pay the full retail on the XL cabs unless they start putting proper screens on them. Cheers!
@@BreakingPintMedia Glad to hear you got it sorted, then! :) Indeed, I'll not pay what they're asking for anything that has a TN in it. Got burned with Centipede, and I stopped there, and told them as much in a registered letter of complaint. I agree. The XL are more for grownups. But then, you can't put as many in these small houses. LOL :)
