A preview into the current monitor displays setup on my Arcade1Up Star Wars Pinball to FX3 cabinet conversion. I am using a combination of a VSDISPLAY LCD driver board and a PC with Pinball FX3 (Steam) in cabinet mode to optimize the playfield screen and maximizing the real estate on the stock "DMD" LCD panel.
A more thorough video going over the software configuration (including the specific coordinate settings for the DMD and backglass screens) is in the works!

Great video man. I am gonna give building one of my own a real shot. I've started building Pinball cabinets twice already. First one was using 2 ips 60 Hz 24 inch monitors. The backglass monitor in portrait mode. The next build I started was a version with a Full HD 27 inch IPS 60 Hz as a playfield. I was never satisfied with the increased size though. This third time, I am going to use a MSI 24" Optix G241 IPS 144 Hz for the playfield. I got it really cheap, and think it will be perfect for the project. I also bought a small 1920 x 480 ips that I will use for the DMD. Still no luck finding a perfect monitor for the Backglass though. I'd really want to go with a 21.5 inch IPS (like the one you used in the other video). But perhaps I'll be using a cheap one to start with that's not IPS though. When it comes to computer parts i've been collecting some parts that I think will be ok: - i7 7700 - 16 Gb ram - SSD - GTX 960 This will be a decent machine I suppose. Letting me play in 144 Hz (or at least 120 Hz)

I think those specs should allow consistent FPS over 60 on Pinball FX3 (if that's what you'll be going with). I would love to upgrade my playfield monitor at some point or build a new cabinet and spec the system to take advantage of faster refresh rates! I have a couple of 144hz displays but they're curved..

Thanks for this! I'm not ready to make the jump to the PC but knowing that the stock screen is capable of better visuals is interesting. I'm wondering if there is a way to get into the settings on the stock PCB.

As far as I know, the stock PCB's LCD driver portion has no user-accessible settings. I wouldn't be surprised if the circuitry was kept as simple as just managing the required power and the HDMI signal lines, there being absolutely no logical functions to manipulate settings. It truly is a shame because if A1Up had given us control, it would have made keeping the stock PCB in place a much more feasible proposition. The 720p scaling is salt on the wound. :( If you ever decide to get a driver board and do a full PC setup...the first time you play in full 1080p with your color/brightness/contrast settings dialed in, you won't want to ever go back to the stock PCB...I guarantee it! Cheers!

I was able to add the controller to the monitor, and then an lvds to hdmi converter to the pcb. I could then connect the pcb to the monitor using an hdmi cable. All still retaining the stock pcb. I was then able to improve the monitor visuals immensely. In addition, I added a Marseilles mcable classic hdmi in line. (Its an upscaler and anti aliasing module). Greatly Improved the visuals by upscaling from 720p to 1080p and then using anti aliasing to improve the graphics quality for fairly cheap. Not as good as if you converted to a pc, but much much cheaper and I was able to keep everything stock.

great video. I was wondering. can you hook the lcd driver card up, adjust the settings on the lcd, and then hook the original pcb back up and retain those settings? or will the original pcb override them?

Unfortunately the settings are stored in the driver PCB. The original board from Arcade1Up has its own presets hardcoded into its own LCD driver circuitry and will use those every time. Hope that makes sense!

Great Video! Any chance you could share your picture settings of the playfield monitor via the VSDisplay adapter interface? I'm having a hard time matching its look to the Acer SS220Q back glass. Thanks!

Glad you found it helpful! As far the settings, I'll get those this weekend and post them here (I'll post the numbers). I was able to get it so the contrast is really good and the color vibrant, without much crushing going on with the highlights and shadows. It also looks great from most viewing angles (especially from straight above). Give me a day or so to get around to it.

That said, that Acer monitor is great in its default setting (unlike the playfield LCD)... I've been very impressed with it as a backglass!

Great video! What frontend did you end up using for table selection with the buttons? thx for sharing!

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm using Pinball FX3 (through Steam) in cabinet mode. Cabinet mode requires that you email the folks at Zen to request a code that enables it (they ask a few questions and sometimes ask for pictures of your vpin cabinet setup to confirm it isn't being used in a commercial setting). Once they clear you, they provide the code for free. Once you enable cabinet mode there are various options that become available, including options that allow positioning of the DMD display on as secondary monitor (it's pixel coordinates based and a bit of a PITA, but once you make sense of it...it's not a huge deal if you need to do it again).

@@BreakingPintMediaThank you for your response. I was able to get the machine setup with a cabinet code as you suggested. It's working great but for now I still have to use the stock pinball FX3 interface and a mouse/keyboard to select a table. At around @14:27 it shows you quickly and easily just scrolling through tables so curious what software you are using that allows you suck easy table selection. BTW your DMD looks awesome! No matter what scaling/position options I have tried my DMD still awful grainy in-game while your score and status messages look awesome @12:28. Thanks again!

How are you finding the performance with those cards? I just used an optiplex sff for a yoke mod and I was mulling over whether to try one for the pinball, but I wasn't sure what cards would work with three video ports. I completely overlooked the idea of using two cards. Great work!

The performance is pretty good with the K620's @ 1080P, but there are very minor stutters in some animated elements during the non-play flyover scenes.. During gameplay it is fairly smooth though you can tell the framerate isn't much more than 60 (I do have mine set to vsync on, but I don't think the K620 can push much more than that anyhow). As far as the monitor arrangement, they work perfectly for that. As I mentioned in the video, the one on the x4 slot is my DMD/Audio via DP->HDMI, as well as my backglass via DVI->HDMI. The one on the x16 slot is my playfield using DVI->HDMI so that it doesn't carry any audio (although the playfield monitor has no speakers, the VSDISPLAY board does support audio when fed via HDMI and I want to make sure during boot up Windows 10 doesn't switch itself to the wrong HDMI Audio port). I purchased a PCIe riser cable and intend to upgrade the GPU slightly (the PSU in the 9020 isn't powerful enough for anything fancy, but I intend to use a K2200 I have laying around, which should give me improved frames). Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

For someone who has no idea of what you said for about 90 percent of this video how can you dumb this down😊
