Great interview Pete Maverick was the most skilled basketball player to ever play the game to be honest with you they had a lot of players that played in the NBA when he first came into the league that was jealous of him in my opinion but also Pete maravich was a great human being. Introducing his kids and his family and having that one-on-one true relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your family. So not only was Pete maravich a great great basketball player but he was a great Christian man that I know made it to heaven
@@thecoachscottfieldsshowcha5894 I grew up playing basketball I played from 6 years old all the way through my senior year in high school. I learned about Pete Maverick from my father and even though I started watching basketball in 1984 Pete Maverick was always one of my favorite players. His homework basketball which I did look at growing up help me become a better basketball player however I wish my parents would have bought me the actual VCR tape and I would have watched it at least once a week. I love Pete Maverick as a basketball player in a person and knowing that he is in heaven is an awesome thing. God bless you and your RU-vid channel
I also saw Linda play softball in Illinois in the summers with time off from the Texas Cowgirls season she’d play softball and some summers stayed in our area with a summer job . A specific game I remember Linda played in So Beloit Illinois , with my dad , Dempsey Hovland . My dad brought Satchel Paige to pre game exhibition pitching for the softball audience. Satchel played baseball for my dad , and traveled with him giving speeches , and was at our home often
Hello Coach Scott and Miss Linda. I am Erin Hovland my mom was a Texas Cowgirl she married my dad together they had a family of seven children . The woman with Linda ( Faith had timelines facts information confused . And rest easy Faith . A NY Times best seller is the book author, and a feature film is in the hands of Hollywood pros .My dad created and booked his Texas Cowgirls on the road barnstorming for close to 30 years (Dempsey and Florence Hovland ). Linda played basketball on their Texas Cowgirls even with my mom , Linda also coached another of my dad’s team Harlem Chics 1950s 1960s ( that team became the NY Harlem Queens playing into the later 70 s. )Throughout decades my dad Dempsey Hovlands teams were on the road with the greats like Marquis Haynes Goose Tatum Meadowlark Lemon , and NBA players including Bob Cousy Ed McCaully, Skeeter Martin Dolph Shayes and others trained some of his players. Congratulations on getting the Linda Yearby Drive ..Street named after you and the Indiana Hall of Fame Induction . . What a nice recognition Coach Scott for one of the Texas Cowgirls. Linda you have a great memory. These great women played 160 game average per year twice the schedule of NBA teams. I am in touch with many players . In 1958/1959 The Harlem Globetrotters and Texas Cowgirls combined for an entire year all across the country , introducing the great Wilt Chamberlain that season they shared the same bus . The Texas Cowgirls played the prelim games for many NBA teams . When is the Indianapolis induction for Linda I’d like to send her something .
Great video BTW but what were you thinking bro? You had that man in the room with you where he mentions his close relationship with Wilt. He then goes onto mention Shaq and states he's the most dominant and you didn't dig into that more?? You just kept smiling like a twit, what were you star struck? You should have busted that wide open with a "who'd win in a 1v1?" and a bunch of other nagging questions. If you knew stats, records, and stories from other players about Wilt and Shaq then mention them before asking. Like Wilt was said to have an insane bench press which was at least 100lbs more than Shaq's max. Is Shaq still the most dominant? You dropped the ball bro.
@seansean7643 I am a former college/professional Basketball coach. I have won championships in FIBA, I have coached over 100 players who played in Olympics and World Championships, I have also coached current and former NBA players, I assure you I wasn't star struck..I allowed Kermit to share his stories and experiences for you the viewer. This is just another day at the office fir myself and my friends. But I appreciate your time.
I believe you but even the top pros get star struck. Listening to certain players talk about MJ, they're star struck especially when they're saying things like "his aura." I assume everyone has at least one star they'd go gaga over. Mine would be Wilt if he was alive. I'd probably get really excited for AI and KD too but Wilt, I'd gobble up all his lies. "Yes you would beat Ali, why would anyone think otherwise? You should be merciful to Ali and tie your strong arm behind your back to spare him."
10k jumps with a vest per night? If I was young stories like this would inspire me to do things like that. I wish we had ways of communicating back then so I could have inspiration like this. I was in my mid 20s before I heard that Steve Nash used to dribble a tennis ball around campus to improve his handling. Watching space jam is inspiring but it didn't tell you anything about what work is expected to be great. Kermit should talk to kids at schools and just brag about himself to inspire them to get better at sports.
This is the most amazing interview . God is good and I'm so thankful they have shared this story their strength and love for one another is so inspiring ❤️
Hey 👋 Scott & Dawn, Thank you Coach Scott for having them on as I have been following his journey for quite sometime now.He gives us who are struggling with heart failure Hope! My journey has been a bit different as I was born with CHD and had multiple OHS and procedures before my teens. I unfortunately know what you felt Scot when your heart felt like you were running a marathon for days. I never want to experience that feeling ever again. Had to be cardioverted 2x and had multiple ablations as well. Even with having a pacemaker/ ICD implanted I feel sometimes it gives me anxiety knowing it can go off any time but I do understand it’s there for my benefit. I’m fully paced myself at 80 but I know exactly what you were referencing when they adjust your pacemaker and check the leads… I almost fainted a few times from it. My cardiologist in Tampa linked me up with My transplant team is at Shands in UF when that day does come for me. I understand the brain 🧠 fog and the fatigue as well. Being someone who’s been active and was even a FF it is rough to except most days because you feel like you just need to chill for a second and you’ll feel better the next day. Dawn your a rock also… My wife has been through so much throughout my journey thus far and not sure I would have got this far without her by my side. This painted a very good picture of what I will have to endure when my time comes. Anxiety and panic I’m sure will set in when the time comes as well Scot but seeing how you’ve come full circle is amazing. Doctors and nurses are earths angels and I know my faith will get me through. You both will continued to be in my thoughts & prayers.
Thank you for your kind words and sharing your experiences. I wish you the best, I am sending prayers and positive vibes your way. I hope you subscribe to the channel and share this for others All the best to you and yours Coach Scott Fields
Terrific in-depth interview Scott - I really enjoyed it. Hope the interview sells some more books for you. If you haven't read Scott's book on Steve Kerr and UCLA's Kingdom on Fire, do it NOW. They are both major page turners that offer tremendous insight on both topics, and Scott's exhaustive research and writing are top shelf.
Always loved Pete, from NCAA through NBA! Jason, your voice sounds so much like your dad's, it feels good to hear you talk! Takes me back to when I watched, on TV, your dad drop 64 for LSU against the dreadded UK, when Dan Issel totaled a meager 51. Ha!
I was at Camp "Wahoo" basketball camp at University of Virginia, the summer of '62 which was held at Miller School. I saw him make 34 foulshots in a row..He kept to himself and he also looked a lot younger than the other kids although he was actually a year younger than I was.
I think playing in Europe is pretty good and they pay ok there. If you played in Spain or Italy for example, you can make easily 800k to 1mill euros per season in a modest team.
Great Interview, I was 11 when Pete entered the NBA. Grew up in Portland always went to Blazer games when The Hawks or Jazz came to town.By far my favorite sports star of all time.
Excellent tool for reinforcing defensive principles. Her coaching philosophy is top-notch. As she said, this generation has a lot to offer, we have to find a way to bring the best out of them. Good stuff!
