I have now retired BITY Mold Supply. My supply shop is gone, but I have now started Brick In The Yard Productions. BITY Productions RU-vid Channel is my way of sharing my 30+ years of industry experience as both a material supplier as well as a professional mold-maker.

BITY is all about information. I designed this channel to be a resource library of sorts for those late nights when you have a crazy casting problem that needs an answer.

What a great video. Clear presentation and lots of info and product shots. My first chavant clay and silicone mould had a gooey layer. This explained the reason why and how to fix it. Going to be ordering some of that "clear guard" spray soon, thanks for the tips.

I’d love to see some fiberglass prop technique. I know many of the amusement parks use them for their durability. I understand the basics of these techniques but actually learning would be incredible. The one artist who posts so much of the fiberglass haunt props I’m referring to is Darren Perks. I want some more durable pieces for my yard for Halloween and while I don’t necessarily want to start playing with fiberglass, I think it’s a good route for what I need and I REALLY don’t want to pay for fiberglass props.

I'd like to see some ideas for creating lightweight, full-size torsos to be used as sewing dress-forms or display mannequins. If they could be made more robust, they could be used for demonstration purposes for combat sports like modern and historical fencing.

Glad you're still fighting the good fight, Mitch ... but, while I was watching this, a thought suddenly struck me when you mentioned 3D printing (no shock to learn that I was quite a mad bugger when it came to fabrication like that, a number of years back!), and while the clip showed you brushing up the thickened jacket mould ... and I was stunned I'd never even contemplated it, previously. There'd be nothing to be lost to (potentially) try to make a jacket mould out of sheets of warmed - thinner gauge - thermoplastic sheeting, would there? Damn it! Now, I need to play around and experiment with that idea! I'll have a bit of a play with that one, and let you know if it's even feasible, but if it is ... The best part is, if it isn't, I can just hit it with some heat and reuse it ... a true 'no-lose' scenario.
@brickintheyard
@brickintheyard 3 дня назад
Funny you should mention that technique with a sheet of warmed plastic. That exact method was shown in an old Mark Prent VHS tape on support shells years ago. Sadly, Mark has passed away, but his family may still be selling his videos.

One product that i never got around to ordering was a patina wax for my aged bronze plaques. Do you have a product recommendation? I currently just acid patina it and seal with a clear wax, but id like some better green in the nooks and crannies for contrast.

You can order that from Sculpt Nouveau directly or one of their distributors close to you might stock it. If you are in Georgia, Fox and SuperFine have a great selection of Sculpt Nouveau as well as molding and casting products.

This page inspired me so much, and I'm very sad that I never got the chance to buy from the BITY store. However, I'm so glad you're not going away, and I will certainly support you guys on here! I'm always on the hunt for videos of people using unconventional materials for molding and casting. For example, are there any common household materials that, in a pinch, can be used for molding and casting functional work. If I'm short on money, supplies, time, etc., what can I find on the street or my closet that can be used in MacGyver-esq ways but still produce functional and maybe even professional work. I look forward to your new videos!
