Great stuff, as usual! :) Personally, I tend to switch the alginate cast you made for a similar-depth casting plaster one. Not necessarily anything as tough as UltraCal (although I have done), but having a plaster "intermediate" to work on and clean up is easier for me than having an alginate one: 1 - alginate is yet another material you need to have on hand 2 - it's not always easy to get hold of cheaply (certainly not as cheaply as the casting plaster that you presumably already have on hand to do with final casting with!) 3 - the plaster is much more dimensionally stable than the alginate, especially if you're not going to be able to work on it instantly, because as the alginate dries out, it shrinks 4 - it's waaay too easy to accidentally carve out too much from the intermediate if it's made of alginate; and alginate can tear easily if you don't treat it nicely 5 - and if you DO carve out too much when tidying it up, it's also waaay easier to patch up with a spoonful of NEW plaster, followed by sanding back to the required surface. Try that with alginate and see how well it goes - LOL There might be something I'm missing that gives alginate the advantage. If there is - please let me know! :)

The main advantage here is that the alginate sets fast while coming out the nose holes, and because it is low density it doesn't risk deforming the cast before the nose is fixed. I might go into this more in a future video. You could probably do this technique with plaster but I don't know if you would be able to get as good of a seal with a hard positive. Thanks for the input!

@@brickintheyard Ah yes, good point about the density - although with the plaster bandage mother mold, and just a shallow plaster cast, I don't reckon that'd be too much of a problem. The quick setting time of the alginate's a good consideration, though :)

great but what if the one being cast suddenly has to use the bathroom? personally, I think the funeral homes should offer this to those who have lost a loved one, morbid maybe but still its a reminder of what once was!

Yes! Monster Clay or Alien clay may be melted and poured into a Copycat mold.

A whole head takes at least 4 lbs.

hello. thanks for all the tutorials. Ive got a question though: would this procedure work on a clay statue? if so, how would you make a mold of the entire head and not just the face? also is there a name for this profession?

@@brickintheyard There used to be a polyurethane product you would soak in water and it would swell. I know you don't carry that any more, but do you know where I could get a similar product?
