Hi, i'm Jess! I run Picky Pulp, an etsy store dedicating to providing sustainable 100% recycled, vintage ephemera. I specialise in creating themed junk journal and collage packs from the goodies I find on my many thrifting adventures! Subscribe to my channel to see my latest hauls, rare items and interesting tidbits of history hidden in the pages of discarded paper treasure.
Fo answer your question about what sorts of videos I'd like to see, I love watching any haul videos and seeing all the things you find. I also loved your older videos showing the travel and cooking journals you made. So if you ever make more journals, I'd love more flip throughs! I also own one of your journals and it is so pretty!
Thanks Luisa, I love doing haul videos! I have one upcoming :) Its hard finding time to keep up with my journal making these days but i still have to create an Asian travel journal which will be a big job when its comes to it!
Just in case you were wondering, a 50 x 60 inch quilt or lap quilt, is perfectly adequate and no one would judge you if you suddenly found yourself with one. Just saying. Lol.
Yay! I get so excited when you post a new video. These packs are so cute. And I agree that you should charge for your time and all the effort you put into your packs. You do a wonderful job!
Waaaa thk u for this. Very excited to try. Wanna know: is there a brown food colouring to make ‘coffee & tea’ dyes? And if not what colours would u mix to get that effect?
I’m not sure but I think probably yes, you could purchase at a specialty craft or baking store? I still suggest just using the cheapest and strongest instant coffee mixed with water for coffee dyed paper
I know what you mean about not liking to create ephemera. I don't either and I'm just like you: love to collect it more than make it. So glad you said this as many times I feel alone or like something is wrong with me, lol. I also prefer minimalist or even blank journals. Too much artwork inside is intimidating to me and deters me from using the journal. So collecting artwork and stuffed journals that others have done is great for ideas and inspiration or just to admire, but to me, anything more than bare bones is too precious to use.
@pickypulp I'm going to film the walk-throughs of my journals soon as I'm back from vacation. I'll give you a shout out because you have lifted my spirits on the matter. Keep an eye out. 😘
My sister is in Sydney and she eloped to Vegas in 2017 (she's originally Canadian but married one of yours, 😆) and then my hubby and I did the same in 2019 🎉 Nothing beats an elopement!
Try to find a “teal” food dye and use a ratio of more dye to water. I used just a basic “blue” for this project and by adjusting the amount of water i can create lighter or darker colours
Great haul of nostalgia! I have a lot of my daughters Barbies from late 90s early 2000s including her Golden Retriever who you actually have to pick up after!! 💩 We don’t have your favorite childhood books here in the US. They are adorable. I hope You find your favorite!❤
I love these little sewing pattern journals! If I wasn’t 10 months late, I’d have bought one. Tuning in from the US. And yes I’d buy one of those spiral bound journals, too. Thanks for the inspiration!
The Queen brand of food colouring I use (in Australia) has a colour called “rose pink” which I use to make pink tones. I dilute with water depending on how light or dark I want the colour. Boiling avocado stones also produces a very light dusty pink dye that is very pretty, although not as vibrant as food colouring, and of course requires effort to collect the stones!
What fabulous results. I particularly like those that look black / are dark in parts. My dyeing experience is limited to using avocado skins/seeds. And coffee dyeing. Ive been collecting some rusty objects i want to try dyeing with
#replay I love how these papers turned out. After the journal is made, if someone handled the pages and had a little moisture on their hands, would that dye stay in their hands?
So fun to find your channel! I could listen to you talk all day-I’m from the US and have a thick Texas accent. It’s not pretty!🤣 Those golden books were so sweet-especially the ABC ones and the prayers. The pictures are wonderful. I also love all of the memorabilia stuff. I was born in 1971, but the McDonald’s stuff still took me back, and the Lady and the Tramp book is a classic for all of us! Thank you for showing what you make with your finds, too. So fun!! I’ll be checking out the rest of your videos as well as your Etsy shop!❤️
Tyvm for this video! I've thought about selling dyed papers and such for quite a while now because I love the whole process. I'm just not sure how to start once the dying is over. And I need only so much for myself. Wonderful colors you created. Ty again. Be safe
You’re welcome! I used to sell them but I only take requests selling them now, as I just dont have the time (although it doesnt take much time at all!), good luck !
Yeah, it is always great seeing idiots destroy these books and turning them into LITERAL JUNK that holds no value and will just get thrown away in a few years or by someone after you pass. You don't even use these recipies!! So, much history and personal life stories have been destroyed by this stupid junk journaling craze!! It is the most destructive craft on the face of this planet!!!
Ohhh I’ve had the same method for 7 years now but I will probably be changing it quite often to this one!!! I was thinking those papers needed to be in an ocean journal! lol - I do thrifty Thursdays too so just found your channel through that! 🩷🩷🩷
Nicely done! I never saw this chanel before. If you tell me that you never use printable and kits, I will right away subscribe. So hard to find somebody that use only real vintage stuff. I do, using papers and book pages from 1864 to 1979 (except for copy paper I coffee dye). my house looks like an antique book store 😂
I especially like the pieces that had already been coffee-dyed. I hadn’t thought of using food coloring, but that is a great low-cost method! (In the past, I’ve added color by spraying other stains and dyes.) Something I’ve done when coffee or tea dying is sandwich the dyed papers while they are wet between stencils or those plastic table place mats that are molded and textured (from the discount stores). That can create some lovely patterns. And, of course, once they’re dry, you can dye them again with different colors to get some layered effects on the paper. Thank you for the great demo! ❤
You’re welcome! These are all great ideas you’ve suggested :) the great think about foos colouring is definitely the cost!. I have “rainbow unicorn” coloured papers that i’ve dyed o3 or 4 times, and they turn out amazing.
