Welcome to another Thrifty Thursday video! Today's haul is a variety of vintage children's books as well as a few random paper bits and bobs! These were collected over the last week from two estate sales.

That stained glass book you showed is super neat. I think I vaguely remember books like that made by Dover that I had as a kid. I always like watching your hauls because you find totally different types and brands of things than what we have here in the US. Fascinating and broadens my world! Thank you for sharing.

How does one get first day stamped envelopes in WA?

You can buy current ones at bigger post offices and through the aus post online store (i think!). I only buy them second hand like the ones in the video so i’m not 100% certain :)

The vintage books are great! How do you send things in the 1st date issue stamps envelopes? They are cancelled stamps, correct? Where do you add postage? Im very curious because I have a bunch too!

Also, I love the rainbow photo envelopes! I did a custom Disney journal early this year and they are always so fun. I’d test a back corner of the Mickey book for color fastness and if it seems good I’d just soak it in some water with vinegar and mild detergent and then hand rinse and line dry. I hope that works! The little map book it so cute and we can never have too many Little Golden Books. 😊

Im not sure about the ones issued elsewhere but the Australian ones actually say at the back that they are valid for postage… they even have a little section to write the senders details. Ive never had an issue using them and just make up the extra postage amount by adding more stamps to the blank parts :) Thanks for your advice re the mickey mouse book, i’ll deffs give it a go!

Oh and meant to mention vinegar cleans but it also helps keep dyes colorfast which is why it’s a hopeful suggestion and usually is odorless after it dries.
