If you get a chance to go to the Christmas midnight mass, by all means go. It can't be described how beautiful it is, and the whole community of New Haven, Ky shows up for it. It's very special.
Merton's Abbey Home. Sitting in the dark balcony late one night in the late 1980s, Merton stood next to my pew and startled me into a new way of living. Since that encounter, Gethsemani as been my Spiritual Home.
I am very grateful that his tapes got out to us in the world. I so enjoy listening to him. The levity in his tone no matter how deep the subject is, and how he easily flows back and forth between profound spiritual insights and goofy jokes - that in itself carries af message of the spirit. Thank you for these videos, too :)
May all those that are battling addiction will be able to allow God to enter their heart and start the process of making amends...Christopher Augustine Foster.
As a Social Worker I use the MH and pilot/navigation stories with my patients and their family/friends ALL THE TIME. Wonderful analogies that provide such hope - but it takes time to develop the friendship love and ultimately trust to fly blind while listening to their mentor Just WONDERFUL! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
2:28pm. 8/21/23 Beautifully done🙏 Great seeing the monks now & earlier in their lives! Keep the inspirational videos coming🌿 Love getting glimpses into the daily lives of the monks!
What a wonderful speaker/teacher. So easy to listen to, quasi conversational yet full of heartfulness and straight talking. I could listen to him a lot !
I stayed three days about two weeks ago. My first visit. I was so moved that I seek silence everyday for prayer. It's comforting to know these monks are praying everyday.throughout the year. I can't wait to go back.
Shawn - the idea behind the audio was to show that when someone first starts a retreat, his or her mind is often still chaotic, still attached to the jumble and confusion of everyday routine. As the retreat progresses, the mind calms down until it is focused just on what is happening at each moment. So the audio goes from slightly chaotic to calm and unified. Thanks for your comment.
I visited Gethsemani the late 80's. We walked all around the place. All I remember is Fr. Louis's cross. Thomas Merton. I hugged it and kissed it. It made me feel close to him, and to all of the monks. That is my only memory of Gethemani. It is a good one. They pray for us, and for the whole world. Heaven knows, we need it.
