Welcome to the page of Family Tree Roofing. We are a family owned and operated business based out of Tulsa, OK. On this channel you will find videos of our repair attempts along with other miscellaneous videos. We are always open to ideas for more content so let us know what you'd like to see!!
I never used this woven vally method on my asphalt reroof jobs. I went with either open copper valley or a mitred valley depending in circumstances. Fiberglass-asphalt shingles do crack.. No more, though, than they do in a hip or a rifge. So what are you trying to say?
Read the directions on the wrapper of each bundle of shingles. Can't read, find someone that can read it to you. Pay day is Friday (if you make it till then).
What about when you were nailing those shingles back? You tore that one shingle like the last nail you put in you broke a chunk of the shingle I saw it. If you’re doing-insurance work, you should be making sure you’re not creating more damage like you just did now you should replace the one you damaged you just actually just pointed out and put a T on the shingle that you damaged with your nail gun Oh brother everyone thinks they are a roofer until the real roofer shows up
I am only doing a repair attempt and demonstrating why the roof can’t be repaired. We are asking that a full roof is approved by insurance. This is not a complete repair. It’s a repair attempt analysis.
@@saferoofer ah….. ok then Next time maybe explain that before you show your video I have 40 years in the roofing trade and I could of repaired that patch 100 % And you wouldn’t even notice what was done If it’s just a repair.
Have you did a core sample? Is there iso under neath? What type of fasteners? Any curbs they missed? Need can’t strips? Metal flashing around the parapet walls or anything? Air conditioning units that need lifted to roof under it?
@@saferoofer No ISO. 2 layer. 1 curb. 5 foot parapit wall, 83 ft. 60 mil EPDM. There needs to be t bar, but none was installed originally. AC unot is on the curb. Need to remove steel siding to install. No lifting. No metal. Insurance company does not want to pay for t bar because it's not mandatory. It's shelter. They are belly aching over my original estimate.
What was the purpose for removing the "bonded" shingles? They are obviously old and so stuck together that it just made the situation worse . And why all the chalk ?
There is no municipal code or huilding code that states this has to be redecked! Hell you can even put on roof deck boards today if you were so inclined to do so, however that would be allot more labor intensive than using 4x8 sheets of osb or plywood.
903.1, 904.1, 905.1 All state to follow manufacture specifications. Manufacture specs state you must use a solidly sheathed deck. Other than Tamko who also allows for tongue and grove.
Over the 1x8 but if it’s 3/8 decking on 24” rafters you have to remove the decking and replace. We do understand this is how it was done back in the day. However, it’s a new day and age. Things change and get better. Code has to be followed.
I audit your channel. I saw your recent videos. Nice content. I noticed that you are continuously uploading videos but unfortunately just few people show your videos. You know what's the problem is? The problem is your channel does not have much engagement, your channel not be optimized properly, You didn't reach your targeted audience according to your niche etc. That's why you don't have enough views, likes, comments, or subscribers. Also your video SEO score is very poor. So, If you're interested, I'd be happy to share it with you that how to solve these problems. Could we discuss this further on Zoom Meeting?☺☺
Wow so well done i am going to use this video training moment if thats all right with you please. I get this type of work sometimes and trying to explain to some people the condition of their roof or on the flip side how to do the repair well done thank you
It’s when the material from one shingle gets stuck to the other and won’t allow it to lay down properly and leaves the other shingle with a very thin substrate due to most of it being pulled off.
@@saferoofer thank you. When you nail the shingles doesn't it allow water to penetrate the nail holes? Or is it because the nail holes are covered by the next shingle that its OK?
Insurance paid for them to be replaced on the entire roof along with box vents. It’s not a repairable roof but the owner doesn’t want to skip anything insurance paid to be replaced.
I could tell this roof was unrepairable just looking at it. Looks like a 20+ year old comp. roof. As an insurance adjuster for 40+ years just pulling up the tabs to get under the shingle you are going to make a crack on the upper part of the shingle as it is pretty brittle at this age.
If the roof shingles were past their lifespan and a little corner of one tab is missing, what is the value of doing a repair, and now, a large section of the roof is compromised?? How did your repair add value to the homeowner??
Insurance has already approved a repair for 43 shingles on this roof. We just wanted to show them why that’s not possible so they can pay for the roof and help out the owner.
@bernardzsikla5640 just didn’t want them to settle with a repair that’s going to cause more damages. They have others they’ve repaired prior and they’re all failing too.
@@saferooferI just hope you’re paying them what they are worth…I don’t have a problem with migrant workers, I have a problem with the companies that pay them crap which destroys the industry….I’m a tile setter in Tulsa and the surrounding area and they haven’t completely taken over that end of home construction, but the ones that are in it I tell them to charge more, undercutting destroys the trade. As I said, I have nothing against Mexicans, I happen to like the majority of them, but for the most part they are not finishers..they can do almost anything, but doing it good, now that’s a whole other story.
@Rustyshackleford752 they get paid 100% of the invoice they send and oftentimes I ask them to charge me more. They deserve every penny of what they get. We pay for any and everything extra.
What is mat transfer? Any why was this a repair attempt? The roof looks fairly alright? Just trying to understand. I'm not a roofer. Just an average guy doing a repair on my garage roof.
Mat transfer is material transfer. It’s when the asphalt sticks to the other shingle and won’t allow it to properly lay down or adhere anymore. It’s a repair attempt because insurance extended coverage on a repair and we want to be sure we don’t damage more shingles around it when we do the repair. If we do, then we can’t complete the repair professionally and stand behind it.
@@saferooferThanks for the reply and explanation. I completely get what you mean by damaging other shingles around what you want to replace. I literally had that happen to me today. What I thought was going to be a few shingles, ended up turning into about 15 or so. Thanks again!
I do know my codes. R903.1,904.1&905.1 all say to follow manufacture specs. Manufacture specs say you need a solidly sheathed decking. Tamko says tongue and groove works as well.
Yeah you’re off. 50 squares at three bundles a square would be 150 bundles. For the 50 sq double that means 2 layers of shingles that we r tore off not installed.
It typically comes in when they’re too close to a keyway and has a blow through. The rain can go over a couple of inches and in time it will rust the nail and leak through. This one was not leaking here but I’ve been in attics for an hour until I found the one rusted nail where it was coming in from.
