Welcome to my channel... This is the home channel for my LSx Powered Kia Sorento project... Yes its complete and drives, however, are our toys really ever "complete"? I have future plans that I will cover on this channel. Including Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide installation and videos of that in action. Along with building and installing the front drive shaft to finally get 4wd back on her. I am currently (December 2016) waiting to pick up another transfer case for it after the catastrophic failure of the previous one. Also on this channel you can see various other garage debauchery as I tinker and fiddle with things. I love taking things apart and building random things. Good vid bud , but pretty much useless image with the phone camera . If you get to the stage of removing that front cover , you just push the terminal out by pushing on the wire . Just cut off the remaining wire , as i guess you are removing an unused terminal forever .
I wouldn't recommend doing this waist oil burns real dirty you'll always have issues. But if for some reason I felt the need I'd mix it in with diesel or whatever fuel I'd normally use like 1 gallon of waist with 9 gallons of clean diesel fuel just to get rid of the waist oil.
@1:35 Love those scissors. The latest version of the Fiskars Gardening Shears. I've been using them since I worked at Lowe's in 1999-2003 and ALWAYS had a pair in my vest/Apron pocket. Now, it's one of the handiest and most used tools in my garage. My two older pair are about worn out but can't bring myself to chunk them out. Thanks for showing another use of the brake bleeder, too. It also does a great job of getting the oil out of small engines without turning the mower over and/or making a big mess.
I have a 2011 Sorento SX with a blown head gasket that I was just telling my buddy I wanted to Ls swap. Then a quick Google search landed me here. That's just plain awesome to see I might be trying to contact you to pick your brain if I decide to go through with it.
now when i read the instructions online, it said to put the nose up against something so they come from the side, more sprung traps than caught mise, last time I read the instructions
This one has a 3.333 rear with open diff. I want to find an earlier Sorento to grab the 4.666 out of! The 3.333 is awesome on the freeway with the 6 speed 6l90e trans (it has 2 OD gears). Although it already has enough traction issues now, I'd have to find a front and rear diff with the 4.666 because it would definitely need 4x4 to launch without insane wheel spin!
@@OverRevvedRacing I only have wet dreams of driveability on the thruway. It probably wouldn’t be bad with a 6 speed but with the original, which I think is a 4, I’m spinning about 3400 at 75 so you can watch the gas gauge drop 🤣 but the 0-60 is really good. In the rain she spins very easy depending on the type of road, but when it’s dry and it needs to go it definitely will. I’ve torn up a few stabilizer links because of it skipping on tight turns but whatever it’s all in the name of the game.
The older ones I think were 4 speeds. My 07 3.8L was a 5 speed but WAY different ratios then the 6l90e. With the 3.333 and the 6l90e at 70mph I'm only running 1,800rpm LOL. The mathematical top speed at 6,000rpm would be 232mph which would be hilarious (and impossible)
Using WD 40 "might as well use urine" LOL It actually works great when you are trying to unseize something and you heat it and spray it down with WD to cool and lube and repeat till you can get it loose. The wd will flow into a very tight gap. If I really want to lube something I really like Zep 2000 but it is not cheap.
I agree I've had luck with it with heat. Especially since PB Blaster messes with me BAD when it fumes from heat like that. However, standard non heat use I only use WD50 as a degreaser. It does WONDERS cutting through everything from oil to bearing grease.
Thank you! I just bought a water to water heat exchanger and I'm going to use the CoolMoon pump block with it to see how well i can cool the CPU using the COLD water from my sump pump (crystal clear ground water)
GREAT IDEA DUDE, AND IT REALLY WORKES. PUT I BOLT AT FRAME CLOSEST TO ME INSTEAD OF PULLY. STRONGER FOR SIDEWAYS PULL WHEN TURNING. PULLYS WEAK ON THAT. LUBE ROPE FOR WEAR AT I BOLT. [SILICONE STICK] THANKS. HATETED GETTING OFF MOWER EVERY TIME TO RAISE SPIKES.
That's awesome that my video helped you out. I hated getting off the mower too because the way my yard is shaped it was a constant thing. I also use it when making sharp turns too because I noticed it flexes the spikes on some corners.

I successfully heat my 38 foot trailer on used motor oil with no preheating of the oil. Feed is with air compressor, but burns way better preheated for sure
I was going towards compressed air too. I have another video here using an old propane tank I modified using this heaters parts in and could seal it up to allow it to be filled with air. Didn't get that far before we moved to a house with attached garage and didn't want this fumes making it in the house. Definitely would have been safer connecting the output to a heat exchanger and dumping the exhaust outside.
@OverRevvedRacing , ok update, I bought a diesel heater off Amazon for 100bucks, it has a combustion chamber with fins, intake and exhaust down through the floor of my trailer mounted under the queen bed in front, impeller in the back of the motor creates high air flow over the fins... 20 mins the trailer is 80 degrees and I gotta shut her down. Need to wire thermostat for running. My point being converting waiste oil to a more purified diesel is the direction I think is best for my trailer as it is my home and free energy is what I am after. Local mechanic shop will give me 100 gallons of oil every 2 weeks.. no way I will process that.. but so far(and I just started researching this) basically you build a alcohol still and the end product is deisel.. run it again for gas.. years ago I watched a guy who lived on a deserted island make gas for his boat and diesel for his generator just using a still using plastic bottles that washed up on shore. This inside of your torpedo uses the same nozzle I use in my home made oil burner.. you are using compressed air already.. within the unit there is a fuel line that runs to the nozzle and another that runs to the air box, the only advantage to using the air compressor is that if you get a quiet compressor with large volume.. I added 2 small compressor air tanks to my compressor adding volume keeping it from running to long... also helping with noise.. anyway it allows you to dial the fuel air mix back to a fraction of the fuel you consume with the large torpedo. The diesel heater I run now takes 2 gallons per 24hours of running hot as she can.. I run it high or off.. keep from buildup.... but ultimately waste oil is its future.. just cleaner waste oil.. I'm not sure if taking the oil and making it diesel will create more fuel or less.. but I will let you know when the still is built.
Those diesel heaters are absolutely the way to go!! I have had my eye on those for a while. I got rid of the torpedo heater when we moved because our garage in our new house is attached and I wanted a indirect heater (like the heater you got or a standard furnace) so the burnt air wouldn't get into the house. I actually have the Beckette burner from an oil furnace that I was going to convert to burning waste oil. However with the prices of those diesel hearers being SO cheap now I'm going to go the same route as you.
@OverRevvedRacing love the thing, should keep you warm for sure, im trying to build a drip feed oil stove for our shop. As far as buying the diesel heater and running waste oil, 1 problem I'm have to solve is cleaning the oil so I don't have to clean the diesel heater out. A stove is easy to clean out, but not the diesel heaters, not to say that you don't have to clean them out anyway but few tips. Make sure the heater exhaust is able to drain water, either its running on high or its off( going to attach a thermostat to it so I don't have to be it anymore)this keeps cleaning to a minimum, and add your own filter, supplied filter is a screen.
@HirschCustoms Filtering is something I looked into a lot when I made the modification to the torpedo heater. I didn't want to risk nozzle issues so I did a bunch of research. I actually modified a centrifugal juicer to use as a centrifugal filter and planned on running one of the bag filters that you can get from McMaster (the kind that look like a 3' tall tube sock with handles on them). I wish I made a video on the centrifugal filter but I was busy working on the LSx swap on the KIA Sorento back then which was my real priority. I played around with the drip feed burner too with a hot water tank as a chamber. It didnt work all that great because I was only using a 3" exhaust and it had a lot of pulsing reverb to it. The diesel heater definitely is the easiest way to go though since its all one package and they are really cheap. I was thinking that a preheater would help with that too. Thinking an aluminum block with one of the ceramic heating rods and the fuel line clamped together in the block. Hope you post a video of your setup if you do any modifications to it or if you do build a drip feeder.
Thanks, however all the engine install work credit goes to the owner Cliff Lasater (he has a youtube channel with videos of the instalation). I just handled the wiring and some other odds and ends (custom headers, fuel system install, shifter, and some other stuff)
I still have it. Its taken a bit of a sideline since I got my 240sx, which was a car I'd always wanted since they were brand new in the dealerships when I was 16 and got my license. Huge thanks for this advice! I had a very elusive mouse in my kitchen, eating around my traps for days.. I thought I had something from Hell to deal with. First box I used nailed it! Will always do this from now on.
Fwiw, none of the back inside needs to come apart. Take off the ecu facing cover to access the release catches. The wires will pull through the rubber grommet grid and pin alignment grid with no trouble. For reassembly, just make sure to align the pin when inserting so that it grabs the catch properly.
Perfect year, people keep messaging me saying they habe a 2010+ and I'm like "can't help you, they were built completely different". All the pre 2010s make the swap way easier by being ladder frame and longitudinal mount. A few noteworthy things though, if you keep the 4x4 you'll NEED to use a front sump pan (GTO) and still notch it for the front diff, I used a 6L90e trans which I guess is really compact compared to some other offerings and it fit perfectly in the tunnel without touching the body with a whacking tool at all. Not sure if it would work out that way with other trans. You'll also need a passenger side drop transfer case. I have a Jeep NP231 but had a custom mount made to mate it to the 6L90e. Advance Adapters makes one but I HAD one and it was a POS, maybe they fixed the horrible issues though. The engine and transmission are specifically a GM Ly6 engine from a 2009 Silverado 2500HD. The stock HP is 364 and stock torque is 383ft/lbs. I have some tuning done on mine via HP tuners as well as the GM Ls3 intake manifold, throttle body and injectors. It also has shorty headers from a GTO that were ported and modified for a much larger collector. I cut off the 2.5" collector and welded in a 3" v-band flange for much better space and easier connection. It also allowed me to run 3" exhaust from the headers all the way back. I am planning to swap out the camshaft as well since I've seen dyno results of up to 500whp with just the cam swap and all the other supporting mods I have. Oh, I also have a nitrous oxide system on it as well (NyTrex) thats currently jetted for 150hp but can be jetted to 300hp with the included jets. I dont know the 0-100 (I assume you mean KMH) but it could be a LOT better then it currently is. The KIA has a 3.333:1 rear differential in the 2007 Sorento but I am planning to pick up a 3rd member from an earlier model year that gas a 4.666:1 gear. This will make an absolutely INSANE difference in acceleration. It shouldn't effect the highway cruising either because the GM 6L90 transmission I'm using has 2 over drive gears (out of 6) and is built to be mated to gears that are closer to the 4.666 then the 3.333.
Appreciate the info. Use your video as a reference. Gps/ Att and manual, all on a single 3 toggle switch. No fail safe set. Will mess with that soon. And IOC also on a 3 toggle switch. Yes the tech is old but she flys so good. What more fun could you ask for in a hobby?

Yes I do still have it. I have neglected it for a couple years since I purchased my s14 240sx. The 240sx is just so FUN to drive. However, I am planning on driving the Sorento again soon. I miss driving it and all the looks it gets. I don't think I'd sell it unless I got some wildly high offer. Kind of the same thing for my 240sx too, I've gotten some decent offers on it as well (it's absolutely rust free and mint in Northeast Ohio, which is the rust belt) but refuse those all. Also fun and once aquired, and built, and loved, unsellable. The owner said he wouldn't sell it for any amount a reasonable person could afford. Lol
I wouldn't sell my 240 unless some insanely unreasonable offer was made for it. It has an sr20det from a s15 Silvia with a bunch of bolt ons. I have to replace the turbo outlet elbow that the previous owner rigged onto it. I was considering doing a video of that.

I just did all the wiring work for the swap, air bags, ignition system (Ron Francis push button start), Nitrous, BCM wiring (so lights, running lights, and reverse lights worked), and the Vintage Air HVAC setup. The guy that owns the car did the engine install. I'd definitely take a swap on like this for less then 30k but sure wouldn't complain about getting paid that much. I did the full 6.0L swap on my KIA Sorento SUV (videos on my channel) and would do it again for under 10k for sure.
I should mention that the guy that owns it went through a few revisions after I sent her back running. He did an LSA blower install but now it has a huge old school roots blower on it.
I don't think the HHR panel and standard HHR are much different. The floor was still intact in the HHR. However the firewall was completely reworked! It is a LOT of work!!
